@ButterMyBiscuit I feel like the only ones we need now are the guidelines, birth announcements, use the search function, and master due dates? Not that anyone looks at most of those either when they should...but at least it's less to scroll through.
  • Get rid of them ALLLL! Except the birth announcements. Nobody reads them anyway.

Rando: The only, and I mean literally ONLY name that DH and I both liked as a possibility in months of searching is now being vetoed by him because of an obscure movie reference that "everyone" will know/think of from 15 years ago. And of course when I point out numerous other movie characters that have had the name and suggest that maybe his claim that "everyone" will immediately think of the stupid movie is a bit over the top... he just says OK, you just pick a name and tell me what it is.

NO, you helped make this baby and you can participate in the choosing of a name. And every name out there is going to have some reference to a movie character, famous/infamous person, someone we know, etc. it's not like I suggested we name the kid Katniss or something.
  • @lizhurt fingers crossed nothing is wrong! Keep us updated!!!!

    @Shelby00519 that bag is amazing!
  • Umm just ate some P. Terry's (cheeseburger, fries, and lemonade) thanks to working late and starving. Now baby girl's going wild. She's really into this burger or just glad to be in front of the tv and not drafting contracts...
  • So, why do we do kick counts? Is it just to make sure baby is alive and well?
At my last appointment, they kinda just threw a kick counter booklet thingy at me and said "start at 28 weeks." I didn't see my usual doctor or nurse at that appointment so the whole thing was weird, and I didn't really get to ask any questions, and they didn't explain anything very well.
  • I asked about kick counts at my 28 week appt and my midwife said she didn't want me doing them on a regular basis because they tend to just cause anxiety. The idea is that regular movement is an indicator of good health but it depends on the practitioner. My midwife said if I feel him moving throughout the day then I don't need to think about it but if I feel like he hasn't moved in awhile I can lie down and see if I feel him but not to worry about counting.
  • Supposedly leading up to stillbirths babies have a decrease in movement so the idea is kick counts will hopefully catch that. But they just give me anxiety, he's already not a very active baby so it stresses me out like no other.
  • @Shelby00519 that makes sense. And I can definitely see how that could cause anxiety... Like everything else in pregnancy, it seems.
  • I has pulling in my driveway yesterday when I noticed a large, dark mass in one of our trees....then realized it was a HUGE swarm of bees! This has never happened to us before - somebody told us they might just leave on their own so I hope they do.  Otherwise we might have to call someone to collect them.  Really hoping not to have to again pay something totally unexpected. Maybe I can find a beekeeper who will take bees for free? Let's hope so!

  • @rnyland1 Oooh, scary! Is anyone allergic in your household? Be careful!

  • @ButterMyBiscuit I don't think any of us are allergic.  I guess honey bees are actually pretty gentle unless they start forming an actual hive. But they can become agitated from mowing the lawn and stuff so. . .yeah hope they leave soon.
  • So I'm really annoyed by this and kind of want to ask her to take it down but I don't know if it's my pregnancy hormones getting the best of me, I can make all the bitchy and snarky comments in the world and she never gets the hint.

@Shelby00519 That is really not okay. I would ask for it to be taken down if it bothers you

edited to add you look fantastic
  • @Shelby00519 I would almost comment directly onto her post saying she needs to take it down and that calling you "already huge" is not okay. Especially since you've already tried talking to her about it.
  • rakel88 said:
@stellaluna14 thanks for that input. I was curious because lately, it'd be easier to count instances where baby isn't moving, than to count all the times he/she is. If they ask at my next appointment I'll be like "don't worry, we've got movement."
This. If I haven't felt her in a minute I just grab my belly on either side and give it a good shake. She will always give me at least one kick as protest before (I'm assuming) going back to sleep.
  • @Shelby00519 wtf man! I'd be livid! That's not being respectful to you in the slightest! Some people just don't think before they talk or write something to that degree. If your "huge" at all, it is all baby and although I can't see your face, you wear your pregnancy well!

  • @Shelby00519 not pregnancy hormones I would legit be furious. She needs to take that down! She's posting pictures of your bump and not even your face and saying your baby is huge. This is the equivalent of her posting a picture of your boobs and saying you got a huge rack. Not ok!!!! If she wants to posts pics of you (as in all of you, face included) she should have asked!

  • @Shelby00519 I would directly ask her to take it down. She may get offended/upset - but if you don't do it now, she'll also be posting photos of your baby with all kinds of creative comments when he/she is born without your permission.  Then you'll end up with even more stress you don't need.

Personally I'm setting ground rules with all my family/friends ahead of time that they cannot post pictures of my kid on social media.  My sister did the same - people got upset and grumbled about it, but they complied. Most people mean well but they just don't think!!
  • @Shelby00519 I would be furious and yes you are definitely well within your rights to DEMAND it be taken down.  Facebook is seriously evil in so many ways.

@Shelby00519 I agree with PP. Shut that shit down. Also, you look great!

@rnyland1 you definitely might be able to get a local beekeeper who is trying to capture a hive to come out! Does your area have a beekeepers group on fb?

  • @elenabrent I didn't think about trying to find beekeepers on facebook but I should try that.  I called the Houston Beekeeper Association and they don't want to come out...I guess it's "bee season" or something right now so they are getting lots of calls and can't handle all of it. I really hope I can find someone to take these bees rather than having them killed by a pest company or something :(
  • Can I just have a pity party for a sec? I had kind of a shitty appointment this morning. First, I drank the glucola thirty minutes before my appointment as directed. Then they took my blood pressure (good) and my weight.... I've gained five pounds in four weeks. That kind of shocked me. Anyone who read my post last week knows that my mom gave me shit for eating fast food so I've been kind of down about my body/diet/nutrition/adulthood this week anyway. Then about 50 minutes after drinking the glucola, I go in with my doctor and we are talking about whooping cough when all of the sudden, BAM lights out, I pass out on the table. When I wake up the nurse is telling my doctor she needs to draw the blood now and they decide to draw it in the exam room where I can stay lying down. During this, my doctor is digging in her lunch bag trying to find string cheese so she can give me something to eat. Umm embarrassing. Anyway, everything was okay after that but now I'm stressing that I'm not going to pass because fainting from drinking that stuff doesn't feel like a good sign. We won't have the results until Monday....
  • Awww what a crappy day!! :(  don't stress about passing out being a bad sign. That can be a sign of low blood sugar, meaning your body produced too much insulin after the drink. I'm glad you were with the doctor and nurse and they were able to help you! Honestly it's probably not the first time they've seen it. I felt pretty gross after my test too.

Also I think the increased rate of weight gain is starting right around now so I think you're in good company unfortunately. You're doing your best!

don't worry @Knottie1456313157 !  I did not pass out but I felt very light headed and needed to sit down after I did my test. I had a two hour one so after the first hour I felt light headed and after the second I had to sit down because I felt so weak. The lab had to give me a snack. It turns out I am anemic so that may be it. But do not stress! Hope all works out!

    Thanks ladies, that is reassuring!
  • @knottie1456313157 My doc had someone pass out the day before my test. The nurse gave me a juice to drink right after my GD test and had made sure I brought a snack too. I'm sure that was scary and glad you got something there! Good luck with the lottery that is GD. Also, on the weight gain, I've had ridiculously fast weight gains and losses and everything in between at my appointments so far. Pregnancy is weird. Don't let your Mom get you down!
  • We are at my parents house for the weekend and it is hotter than hell in here. I didn't think to bring a fan. Husband is using the little one in the room and starts complaining that I woke him up twice trying to open the window... But will he give me the fan ?! Nope! Ugh!! Pregnancy insomnia plus it being 70 degrees here sucks! So I'm laying on the basement floor trying to cool off enough to be able to go back upstairs and hopefully go back to sleep

To the ladies who were discussing movement ( @rakel88 @Nerdchild @stellaluna14 ), quick question: is there a point when limited movement/weaker movement should be checked out? I'm only 25w5d, but I've been feeling my little man regularly since 19/20w. His movements are usually quite noticeable and strong (we're talking full on kicks, jabs, allll the ninja stuff) The past four days though, when I do feel him, it's much weaker, more of like a little thump, sometimes a roll or a flutter. I've tried the food, cold/sugary drink tricks--sometimes he'll respond with a slight movement and sometimes not. Trying not to worry because I know movement patterns aren't really counted until 28w or so, but still...
  • @elldel My guy was doing that till recently (I am 28w4d). I think as long as your feeling movement it's all good but if you're concerned I'd call and ask. There's no harm in double checking everything is okay
