  • @MRSCORKER - Worst case scenario, they can't find the hb with the Doppler, so they do an u/s and you get to see AND hear your little nugget. That wouldn't be too terrible, would it?  ;)

I just Googled Himalayan bees and found out some of them produce hallucinogenic honey.  I think you're onto something...
Ha! And I thought I totally made that up.

  • Random baby-related question that I asked my sister and she didn't know.
Did you have like a moment of overwheleming love for your baby before it was born? And how far along were you?
  • @kmalls yep I was Feb 15. But pretty much silent.

@agogo1 - I freaking loved that BMB (I had a different screen name back then). I still talk to a huge number of them every day! And yeah, the snark was REAL.
  • @rozandbensince2001 yes! You described it better than I could
  • @JamieK1882 I know exactly what you mean! I was happy and excited to be pregnant with my first, but when I tried to talk to him or feel love for him, it was just a blank. When he was born, my reaction wasn't a rush of love so much as "WHOAAAAA." It took about 24 hours for love to set in, and even then it felt, I don't know, unearned? There's an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where the whole bridge crew loses their memories, and there's this extra guy there in a uniform, so everyone treats him like he's been part of the crew all along, even though we the audience know he's an imposter. It felt like that.

I feel more connected to the current pregnancy because now I know what it's like to give birth to a baby and love that baby. It's not theoretical this time. But love? Not yet.

  • BTDT Moms, I need opinions. DH and I were supposed to go on a cruise the week after our BFP. We called and got a cruise credit from the cruise line because of Zika concerns in the Caribbean so now we're deciding when to reschedule our trip. We were going to go on a babymoon in June but we're extremely limited in where we can go because of Zika, plus, I wouldn't be able to drink, get in the hot tub, do some of our favorite excursions/activities, etc. and I really want to save all of my paid time off to extend my maternity leave. We found out today that our credit won't expire until 2018. DH wants to schedule a trip for the 2 of us for November 2017... Do you think this LO will be old enough to stay with grandparents for a week at 13 months, or is that too young? My initial thought was too soon but I know nothing and maybe I'm being overly sensitive about it.

  • @JamieK1882 I think we were typing at the same time because I didn't see your reply till now! Yeah, it's not like I doubt I will love the baby. I just haven't gotten there yet. When they're actually here and you get to know them, I think that's when the flood of emotions really comes.

  • @kmalls Yeah, I'm going back and forth. Right now, I want to go pre-baby but I know I'll be sooooo sad when my maternity leave is over and I know I could have had an extra week if we hadn't gone. If we do decide to save the credit for down the line, we'll still do a little baby moon getaway this summer so we have some time just us before the baby.

  • @MRSCORKER - oooh I totally missed the part about your maternity leave. I think you're right, you'd kick yourself if you had a week less at home with the baby. Ugh such a tough spot to be in!

We don't have to go in November '17. The credit won't expire until 2018 so we can wait. Was just curious what BTDT moms thought about leaving the babe at 13 months. We'll see, we have time to decide.

  • @mrscorker that's tough. DD is 16 months and the longest I've left her for a work trip was 5 days and I hated it. But she often does sleep overs with the grandparents (even weekend camping trips) and loves it. Harder on me than it is her. Would you be opposed to taking LO on the trip with you?

You know, I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to talk to H and see what he thinks.

  • @Mrscorker I didn't want to leave DS for a week, so we brought him on a carribean cruise when he was about 24 months and we had a really good time with him.  We went in early December and there weren't many kids on the ship, but all the adults we met seemed to really enjoy him, which was fun.  Random people would come up and say "Oh, he's got his yellow hotwheels today!  We saw his green one yesterday!"  We had a lot of fun taking him on excursions and around the ship too.  The cruise line we were on had a pretty good kids program too that we used a couple times and had lunch by ourselves.  Of course, it was a very different cruise than just DH and I, and the cruise line made us pay for another adult ticket for our son (they said because he would take up a spot in the life boat!), but overall it was a very good experience.

  • @MRSCORKER I agree with those who are saying take the baby with you! My DD is 14 months old and I've had to leave her for overnight work trips and I absolutely hate it. I have a 5 day trip coming up and I'm already weepy about it. We took DD to Paris when she was 7 months old and honestly had way more fun with her there than we would have had on our own.

  • Ok, one more question for the BTDT mamas. H and I are considering a doula. We both feel we need a support person and I'm 100% against having any family or friends present. We have a meeting with a doula next week just to meet and ask questions but from what I have found online, it's going to cost close to 1k. This morning, I found out that a woman I work with is currently in training to become a doula and needs to assist on a certain number of births to become certified. She's offered her services for free. I really like her a lot, she has a very calming, nurturing energy but I'm wondering if it would be weird to have someone I work with at the birth and basically seeing me naked. We don't work closely together, we're in the same department but on different teams so I only see her a couple of times a week but she sits nearby. Would this be too weird or is it worth sucking up the weirdness to save a thousand dollars?

  • @Mrscorker I would say go with the coworker if you feel comfortable with her.  With my first son my mom was present and was VERY needed as a calming presence.  Labor in general was so overwhelming for both my husband and I and there are always things that don't exactly as planned, that it was really helpful to have someone there that could remain more objective and help me remember the things I wanted.  If you don't want family there, I think a outside support person is the way to go.  I don't think it would phase me to have a co-worker like yours there.  We live in a small town and my midwife goes to my church, works out at my gym, and has her kids in the same school as mine.  She's very professional and for me, it's not hard to separate socializing with her outside of the hospital with all the very personal stuff she knows about me inside the hospital.
  • @MRSCORKER I would say as long as she seems reliable, and not like the type to blab intimate details of your delivery all over your department then go for it =)
  • I'm supposed to be studying for my certification exam and CANNOT focus. So I'm Bumping instead

  • Thanks @AllyTheKid and @ScootsMcG She's very professional and lovely and I think she will be a great doula. I have no concerns about her blabbing around the office. I think my only concern was if it would be weird at work afterwards when I'm like, "Hey, good to see you, you've seen my vag". Ha! You're right though, I think there is definitely a way to compartmentalize and by the time I see her again, it will be 3+ months after the fact so I think any awkwardness will have had time to pass.

  • @OrangeEv No. I mean, I loved him and would have done anything in the world to protect him and was scared for him every moment he wasn't moving, but no movie style gushing in love, reading to my stomach etc. I didn't fall madly in love with him until I first saw him in person, and even that faded into a disconnect when we were in the midst of the first month.

I apparently had a dream the other day that one of the gifts at our wedding party was a fairly large whisk. While cooking earlier I decided I whisk would work better than a fork and I began to sort through ALL my utensils/shelves looking for said whisk that I dreamed about.  Never have I been so confused.
That would be so disappointing! Sorry for that haha

Honestly, when you're in the moment you probably won't even care if she sees your vag and that will probably carry over to when you see her after too.

I for sure won't care in the moment. Was more thinking about when I come back to work but I think you all are right. We're all adults and this is the profession she is choosing to move into so it comes with the territory. I would rather save the 1k and risk any awkwardness that will probably never manifest anyway.

Thanks for all of the input, everyone!

@br0co1ii I'm in SC! What area are you moving to? And where from?

Edit to say I posted this before finishing the thread. Charleston is mine and SO's favorite place during the summer and also where we had to go to get inseminated. You'll love it!!
  • Lol speaking of weird dreams...I had a dream I was on the Bump or Ovia app and it told me that we were having a girl. I was only confused because I didn't know the app had that feature so it was a surprise to find out when I opened it that time
