  • So I haven't started any Zika threads, but I do live in Texas and it does scare me and I wish I had more information. It doesn't help that a lot of articles purposefully fearmonger. I saw one on Facebook recently that said "Zika is worse that we thought" and they said it was "already found in 30 states" (without saying which ones or how frequently). Also, my husband thinks it's a ridiculous fear (rightly or wrongly) so there's no way he's going to let me spray him down with bug spray or anything so I'm going to have to stress more about that.
If you're curious about places that have had transmissions, the CDC website has a map. No transmission in the US at this point.
  • @AshleyGemini24

I am a CNA at an independent living facility and I'm terrified of the residents finding out I'm pregnant, lol.

  • @turtlemomma, there are a few residents who are just mean enough to purposely try to hurt me. But for the most part, they all love the idea. Not to mention there is about ten of us running g around the facility pregnant. Most of which are techs like us
  • @F47  I do this. I'll eat fruit and veggies all morning and then naptime comes and it's a box of Mac and cheese. Atleast there were some healthy foods at some point during the day right?

It's days like today when I want to go home, draw a hot bath, and guzzle a bottle of wine. But I can't drink wine and hot bubble baths are frowned upon. How the heck are you supposed to unwind when pg?
I cried over this last night! I just need SOMETHING to take the edge off but all those somethings are forbidden now. I was literally crying to DH about "It's not fair!"" Whoa - hormones!
  • @mizzkbrat I so feel you! My husband just pours himself a large glass of wine and I just stare at him with an evil eye thinking I could really use a glass of wine.

  • @JamieK1882 I'm sooo into Hamilton! I genuinely feel like I'm learning something when I listen to the soundtrack. He is such an interesting dude.

I can't wait to see it either. Tickets are so impossible to get and it makes me sad.

I work with a lot of mentally unstable residents. Not all of them are necessarily violent, just unpredictable. I'm a morning, weekend person so I work most of my shift alone. Fun times, lol

  • Take a warm bath, throw some epsom salts in there and light a candle and read a book. Don't scald yourself, keep it at a nice temp and enjoy. Plenty of doctors I've spoken to over the years recommend baths for you aching muscles. No hot water pretty much means don't go soak in a jacuzzi for 45 minutes.

I also eat cold sandwiches and hotdogs, drink coffee, and don't freak out about bagged spinach though so I'm not a textbook good influence for you all.

Y'all. Someone else posted something stupid on the Zika thread and I swear I had to take deep breaths before still pretty snarkily responding. I wouldn't mind if people gushed about how scared they are of it spreading or whatever, but please don't talk about canceling your vacation plans to a US state. It's pretty insensitive and it's fear mongering.

I feel like such a bitch on this board but I am so tame compared to literally everyone on my last BMB. I was afraid to post there. Here I'm just afraid of sounding too mean.

*edit: errr just realized that I may have violated TOU, so did some cleaning up.

  • @agogo1 I'm glad you changed the vibe of that thread bc she pissed me off.

also wtf I just ate an entire order of shrimp dumplings and have no remorse. that's the most I've eaten at one time in weeks.
  • Watching a sneak peak of this show called Outdaughtered and omg... Those people had quintuplet daughters and I can't even imagine!

Went to Panera for lunch today with my DD. She ate her Mac and cheese quietly and as we were leaving, an older lady stopped and said, "Your son is adorable." I said, "Yeah, she's a girl," to which she proceeded to say, "Maybe next time we should put a ribbon on her!" And then quickly added, "But she was such a good little girl!" :|

ETA: this probably should've gone on WTF Wednesday, but my brain fog is strong lately...

How rude.  Do people not realize that children can hear them and understand when they're being insulted?  And why does a girl have to wear ribbons or pink to be a girl?  Also, complimenting someone doesn't give you the right to say something judgmental to "balance it out."
  • @ignoscemihi Thank you!! Seriously. It actually happens a bunch because my daughter is 16 months but doesn't have a whole bunch of hair yet and I don't dress her in typical "girly" clothes. The woman was pretty old, though, like 80. My husband told me she's just old-fashioned and to let it roll off. But it still annoyed me.

I thought it was slightly overkill to say that discussing cancelling vacation plans to a US state was insensitive.  There's been lots of discussion about Florida travel on this board, including by me (although in my defense, my nurse/midwife told me that she wouldn't go, and it's her job to advise on these kinds of things, which is the only reason we were even considering cancelling in the first place.)  But then there was talk about cancelling a trip to FREAKING NEW ENGLAND and that made me super irritated (I'm in the Boston area), so .  .  . I get it.

I thought it was spot on lol. I live on the Gulf Coast, 40 minutes from the water, and I get so aggravated with those posts. It's like every pregnant woman north of the Mason-Dixon line is picturing us in a third world country situation down here. I got two mosquito bites this past weekend and am I scared? No, because I know the facts about Zika in the US. Do I do everything in my power to avoid getting bit, of course, but I'm not going to lock myself up in the house when there hasn't been even ONE case of Zika reported that was caused by a mosquito bite.

I say, do whatever makes you feel safe, but first, educate yourself on the situation and stop fear-mongering. (Edit- I'm talking to the general public here, obviously not directly at you, simcal :)

Right.  That was my point.  I thought it was overkill and then someone mentioned cancelling a vacation to my area and I totally got why it wasn't.  :-)

We're moving to South Carolina in July! I'm excited and terrified at the same time. So much to do! Plus I'll be uncomfortably pregnant for the cross-country trek. New doctor. New place to live. Insurance?  Maybe. And I don't know ANYONE in that entire state.
Whoa that is super exciting! I can't remember where you live now? Somewhere very different than SC?
Sorry it's been awhile. I had a migraine that refused to quit...
Either way, 3 years ago we moved from Buffalo to Phoenix. Now we're head ed to the Charleston area. I'm getting more excited as time passes.
  • @suzy311 I know! I don't normally care for history or politics or anything like that and DH does, and he keeps laughing because I am bugging him with all of these questions about historical accounts after listening to the soundtrack!
  • Ugh. My head cold developed into a chest cold and now when I cough hard, I pee a little.... it's too early for this.

I'm so sorry @kmolleltz .  I've been super sick with a terrible cold/sinus infection/ear infection for a week now, so I feel your pain.  It's terrible.  I'm starting to improve but I'm still not well, and I so badly just want to feel better.  FX that you're on the upswing soon!

  • @bnsmith85 since we have the same siggy pic......

I resized mine at  https://www.picresize.com/ because I was too lazy to open photoshop and then I reuploaded it thru tinypic

  • @bnsmith85 go into your signature settings, hit the symbol that looks like this
right after the <img type width= "number" (I tend to make that "number" 300
Hopefully that makes sense without typing out too much which would then change my instructions to code! lol

  • Aw @MRSCORKER , try not to worry too much.  Your OB has probably dealt with this lots of times before and has a back up plan.

@nataliemaephotography , i'm right there with you.  I never get headaches, but for the past 2 weeks it has become a problem.

@MRSCORKER don't fret! I had an AP last pregnancy and again this pregnancy. It was never an issue finding the heartbeat on the Doppler. I've even been easily finding it at home. You'll be fine!

  • @nataliemaephotography  I feel your pain. I've always gotten the worst migraines and last pregnancy they were a constant battle. Finally my doctor prescribed tylenol with codeine for when they got to be unbearable (I mean, black out, go to the ER with raised blood pressure and vomiting). I could always tell if it was just a headache or was going to turn into a full blown migraine so I was told the trick is to stay on top of them with the tylenol because once they're crazy bad, no amount of tylenol will help. Grab a cold cloth, hide in a dark room, and feel better!
