Ok, one more question for the BTDT mamas. H and I are considering a doula. We both feel we need a support person and I'm 100% against having any family or friends present. We have a meeting with a doula next week just to meet and ask questions but from what I have found online, it's going to cost close to 1k. This morning, I found out that a woman I work with is currently in training to become a doula and needs to assist on a certain number of births to become certified. She's offered her services for free. I really like her a lot, she has a very calming, nurturing energy but I'm wondering if it would be weird to have someone I work with at the birth and basically seeing me naked. We don't work closely together, we're in the same department but on different teams so I only see her a couple of times a week but she sits nearby. Would this be too weird or is it worth sucking up the weirdness to save a thousand dollars?
When I first started reading this ($1k?!?!!?) I was going to suggest finding someone looking for experience. I think using that coworker is the perfect solution! It takes a special kind of person to want to be a doula and I believe a lot of that comes from within (not necessarily experience). Of course an experienced doula is awesome but I think one "in training" would be great too. I don't think it would be weird at all to work in the same department. I say go for it and save that money!!

  • @jillianpardo I think we're going to. DH was into the idea of a doula but not for the price. When I told him about my coworker, he was really excited. I was actually surprised at how into it he was!

  • I set up blocks for my 4 yr old and 2 year old so I can bump for a bit while they play. They found an empty costco sized box of Dr Pepper and are taking turns climbing into it. I swear, kids are cats. If anyone is worried about buying stuff for your baby/kids. Do not worry about. My kids have tons of toys but their favorites are always the free stuff or stuff we had already. Boxes, pots, pans, and regular household items.

  • PREGNANCY BRAIN IS REAL AND DANGEROUS.

okay so a little dramatic but I got a phone call from DH while I was at work that I apparently left the house completely open... didn't lock the door. Left the lock and my keys next to the fridge. Never have I done that before!

  • PSA: rompers with buttons, while cute, are not conducive to the frequent bathroom trips that this pregnant lady makes!
  • I don't think we have a symptoms thread going right now so I'm gonna drop this here... Talk to me about RLP. I thought it was just that sharp pulling pain you get when you sneeze, laugh, cough, stand up too fast, etc. but lately, I've been feeling very tender and crampy even when I'm just sitting still. The cramping is not at all like normal period or uterine cramping, it feels different. Could this be RLP as well or is it something else? Anyone experiencing this?

Do you feel it only when you stand or sneeze or whatever or have you felt it while sitting still?

  • hahaha I just assume it's bc she's growing and my insides are moving all over. it's more towards my sides, so annoying but comforting also.
  • @MRSCORKER

Yeah, I'm getting RLP while just laying here, too. Feels like things are stretched tight and mildly achy.

  • I'm getting RLP off and on no matter what. I got a bad cold and was coughing a lot and THAT made it really noticeable but even when I'm not doing anything I feel it and honestly it's quite uncomfortable.

  • @TurtleMomma and @kmolleltz Yeah, I'm having quite a bit of discomfort in my lower abdomen. I'm going to bring it up at my OB appt. tomorrow. It just feels very tender and achey. I'm wondering if it's a combo of RLP and GI pain. The constipation has only gotten worse the further along I get.

  • I never had anything like RLP with DD, so when I was having pain off to the sides this weekend I mildly freaked out. Followed by lots o' googling and board searching. Then the "oh...duh" moment. We all go a little crazy, right?
