@TheTamedShrew I feel your pain and legit do not want to know how much I've gained so far. I went from running and feeling good and looking pretty good (for me!) and now I feel like the sluggiest slug ever. I think a body positive post would be awesome!

I made two small modifications - I didn't add a cup of boiling water to the batter (I just didnt read it) and it turned out super moist and dense, so I recommend leaving it out. I also love dark chocolate much more than milk, so I only added 1 cup of powdered sugar to the icing recipe instead of three. It didn't leave me with quite enough icing that way so if you go that route I'd double up on the butter and chocolate.
@camichael84 (why won't it tag you?) I'm in Florida so we have great weather this time of year. I almost feel bad mentioning it because I know a lot of you are still getting snow up North. Hopefully spring will reach everyone soon
@blondie080300 that's a long shower! Aren't they usually only like 2 or 3 hours max? Good luck!
@SLou24 lol right, I forgot about that part haha! Well he did some dishes this morning while I was out, so I suppose he can continue living for now
@runningisrad totally normal! I feel like I'm bipolar lately! One minute I'm all happy and the next I can be miserable. Oh hormones!
@RedMar that was me with ants all over the kitchen. So gross and so frustrating! Hope you get rid of your little poop monsters!
@TheTamedShrew I know there is a thread for "Unhealthy Mamas Check In" - which I visit regularly. I'm not gaining at a high rate but I started out heavier than I should have- not like morbidly obese but hey I'm a curvy woman! Anyway, I love that thread because it's all of us struggling and being human about it. I love the idea of a positive body image thread!!! There are times when I feel really great about how I look right now, and I'm always half tempted to put it on the UO thread because I'm afraid I'll sound obnoxious otherwise. Don't stress weight gain too much- this is the one time in our lives we are supposed to gain!
@Shiva14 they definitely cancel each other out, and I'm also jealous of both food items and your beautiful weather!
Thanks, guys. We currently are sitting in the dark with traps loaded with peanut butter in the kitchen. We scoured everything today from the counters to the cupboards to the floors. I'm glad DS isn't crawling around that much anymore, but he still eats whatever off the floor
1st big baby purchase down! Just ordered the Ergobaby Performance carrier from Zulilly, and I'm so pumped! I guess I should put this in the baby carrying thread. Oh well.
AH I totally forgot my random- I slept till a little after 9 a.m. today! First time in MONTHS! I always wake up at 7 like clockwork, no matter what time I go to bed, and I was never ever a morning person. When I rolled over and asked DH what time it was this morning and he said 9, I was so happy lol! It's the little things
Eww @RedMar I somehow missed that you were battling mice. Those stinkers, sorry you are going through that. Hopefully they take the bait so you can be done with them quick.
Mouse update: one caught, suckerrrrrrrr. Hopefully if there are more they'll fall for the PB bait. I just want it to be summer already so these a-holes can continue their lives outside of our home.
Oh Nooooo @runningisrad!! I hope you can take today off of work (I can't remember if you work or stay home). Either way, I hope you can rest up and hydrate!
Bummer @runningisrad. I am so sick of the mobile app, I wrote out a few good-sized comments this weekend and then would get the "you don't have permission to do that" when I'd finally go to post. So annoying! Now, of course, I can't remember what I was going to post.
I spent all weekend deep cleaning my house - steam mopping floors, vacuuming carpets and couches/furniture, windows, bathrooms, counters.. everything. It felt so good. Also got outside a lot since it was 50 degrees and sunny skies.
Now gearing up for the NYC trip this coming weekend that I've been complaining about for 3 months on here. Ugh.
We have our first growth scan today. I'm nervous and excited and more nervous and more excited and omg I hope they can tell us the sex! Come on babies! Cooperate!
Does anyone have a suggestion on where to buy white onesies in bulk? My mom wants to do a game at my baby shower using baby onesies (guests draw on them, put funny creative designs or sayings and then the most funny, most colorful, and most adorable get gift baskets). She was planning on buying a bunch from BRU, BBB, or Target, but I was wondering if there was a better/less expensive place to get them. She's looking for 40-50 in varying sizes.
@RedMar I hope all your PB traps catch your mice intruders. I grew up in the country and mice were terrible and inevitable. So glad we haven't had a problem with the where we are now, and sorry you're dealing with them.
Yesterday DH put together the kitchen set DD got from my parents for Christmas. (Don't get me started on what was huge procrastination on both our parts.) Watching her play with it has been so great. It has a high hair for her babies that she keeps putting them in and feeding them with a spoon. I just keep thinking what a good big sister she is going to be!
@camichael84- that's awesome! My little man loves feeding his stuffed animals with his pretend baby bottles.. granted most of the time he stabs them in the eye with it, but it's still crazy adorable. I can't wait to get him his baby doll in a couple weeks.
Emmett also LOVES the kitchen set at daycare, we haven't gotten one for home yet as we have to keep some big items for December (birthday/christmas/hannukah), but I'm really really excited to get him one as he loves stirring and serving from our actual tupperware, pots and pans, etc
@runningisrad Ugh, hope you feel better soon! What a way to start the week!
@camichael84 So cute that your DD has been feeding her babies. My DD has been in a HUGE baby kick for a while also...perfect timing! Plus, it's been a huge bonus for DH and I because she can entertain herself for long stretches of time, as long as she has a baby, a bottle, a blanket, some washcloths ("burp cloths") and a basket ("carseat"). Give us time to do things around the house, which is ah-mazing! (Never thought I'd see the day, haha!)
@AnnaS930@JennM205 DD has been loving her babies since she got the first one for her first birthday. For Christmas we got her a cheapie baby doll stroller and a disappearing milk/juice bottle and sippy. She strolls her babies around and feeds them. Although, a lot of times it's like Anna's son and ends up in an eye. Haha.
We had planned on getting her a kitchen set of her 2nd birthday, but then my mom surprised us with this one. It's a good toddler size kitchen, so now we are talking about getting her (and the baby) a bigger kitchen set for her 4th birthday (baby's 2nd birthday). She's loving all of it, and I'm loving watching her play with it (and playing with it myself, too), but the baby part just melts my heart.
So I have just read the last 5 or 6 pages of randoms. So I am just going to randomly post on a few things that came up....
Sorry for everyone dealing with a stomach bug. My family went through it last week, but my fortunately my son didn't get it as bad as my husband and I. He did have decreased appetite, increased fussiness, and a bit of diarrhea a day or 2 before my husband fell ill, but he didn't have any vomit.
I posted in the baby-wearing thread about what carriers I have. I didn't baby wear all day every day like AP moms do. I am not into attachment parenting and I like my autonomy so having a baby literally attached to me all day would be a no-go. I found baby wearing to be very convenient when out and about and it's also the closest thing to a magic bullet when calming a fussy baby.
When I started researching solids and purees, I had read that it isn't good for babies to suck their purees from pouches. Spoon feeding helps them learn how to move the food around in their mouth and properly eat. So I avoided pouches and used jars. My SIL gave me several 4-oz mason jars and they worked great. And reusable pouches just sound like a nightmare to clean.
Late last week, DS started getting a bit constipated. Nothing too bad, but it made DH and I review what kind of foods we have been feeding him. It seems like he is not getting enough fiber in his diet. What do you feed your toddlers to increase their fiber intake? I mixed some ground flax seed into his applesauce. I also baked a bunch of healthy muffins for him to eat for breakfast and snacks. DS is 1 1/2 years old.
@marajay6- good fiber foods for tots - apples, pears, berries with seeds (strawberries are a go-to for us), enriched cereals and breads, any/all kinds of beans
@marajay6 I have always had good luck with 'P' foods when it comes to constipation. Peaches, plums, peas, pears, prunes.
Yes! Since having a kid, I have gotten to know all about the P rule! Now that the constipation is better we are just trying to increase his daily fiber intake in general. Before having kids, I never knew how much I would talk about poop.

Do you just cut up fresh apples and pears? DS has his molars coming through and often refuses a lot of harder foods. We have been giving him canned apples and pears. I don't think they have as much fiber and they are quite a bit sweeter. But he loves them and would eat them all day if we let him.
I have a bunch of randoms this morning and they're all good things!
First, the new job that has been courting DH for the past three months is officially sending over their offer today!! This job will mean DH works from home instead of commuting four hours per day (total) to and from his current job. If all goes well, we are in the final two-week stretch of this insane schedule we've been keeping for the past two years. I can NOT wait to have DH home for dinner again, share daycare dropoff/pickup with him, have him not be exhausted all the time, everything!! This is going to be a huge change for our lifestyle and a major win. Fingers crossed it all goes through!
Second, we put our old house (that we've been renting out) on the market last Friday and had an offer within two days! The home inspection was yesterday so I'm hoping we hear back and the list of fixes they buyer requests is reasonable. If all goes as planned, we should be back down to just one mortgage (a huge weight off our shoulders) by early June!
Third, my BIL (who's been living with us and making me crazy since last Fall) went apartment-hunting yesterday and found one he likes! He hasn't officially applied for the unit yet but knows he has to do so quickly if he wants it before it's gone. Here's hoping!!
Finally, I went shopping over the weekend and picked up two super cute maternity tops and a pair of leggings for under $20 total. Of course I'm wearing one of my new purchases today and feel like a new woman!
Oh, and how can I forget!? Wednesday is our anatomy scan - we're taking the day off, keeping DD home from daycare so she can go with us and then taking her out to a "ressarant" for a special Big Sister lunch.
This is shaping up to be a great week! (Fingers crossed...when so may good things start happening, I start waiting for the "other shoe" to drop...hopefully all goes well!)
In line with CAN I DYE MY HAIR, I'm now sporting some warm flamingo pink that I'm pretty damned happy about. I dyed my hair a saturated teal ombre right about this time last year and I've been jonesing for another non-standard color ever since.
The major bummer is that it's a pretty light color, and it's already fading. I have some Manic Panic Pink Flamingo to use as an additive in my conditioner, but are there any other ladies with funky colors who have tips for keeping color around? I'm washing with as cold a water temperature as I can tolerate.

@marajay6- this time of year we do a lot of canned as well, not sure what happens to the fiber content. In the Fall I make a lot of homemade applesauce and try to leave some peel in (I think that's where most of the fiber is.. so the canned probably isn't offering as much as it could be). We often dice up an apple and stir it into applesauce or yogurt and he does well with that texture (at 16 months)
@JennM205- nah, no other shoe dropping this time - these are all good things just coming to be at the same time that you guys have worked really hard for. Excited for your anatomy scan on Wednesday (mine is a week from Wednesday, hoping the next 9 days go quick!) and SUPER excited for the job offer, and really hoping it's something that can be managed (a pay increase would be nice? But a slight decrease with the lowered commute time, and hopefully 1 less mortgage soon might still be very manageable and still a huge improvement!)
Hello, catching up on all the posts since Friday. Sorry so many you and your families are sick . I love the idea of a thread of "Shit my Husband Does." I had never heard of fomo before but know the feeling all to well. After moving from one side of the city (less than a year ago) to the other most of our friends faded out, I'm hoping after baby comes we will make friends who have kids and that live around us. Before moving away from our hometown three years ago we had more friends than time (we were with friends most nights of the week) and now it's the extreme opposite. I'm finally getting used to that and actually enjoying it.
On Saturday I woke up with the worst neck pain ("crick in my neck") I've ever had and sent H out to get buy a heating pad. Thankfully it went away in by Sunday. H and I had often talked about our "future kids" and started a talk about parenting and then started to say future and hand to correct with "for this child." Other randomness I driving myself crazy trying to feel the baby, I wish I could feel it already.
My legs were so sore overnight. Like... as if I ran a marathon sore, very very strange. I was busy cleaning all weekend, but only put in about 12,000 steps on my fitbit and 20 sets of stairs (which is definitely more than my usual day.. especially at my deskjob, but still...) Dear legs.. if you are going to be super sore, at least look really toned and muscley. K thanks.
@AnnaS930 Yes with the legs! Mine aren't sore but I woke up this morning feeling heavy and swollen in my lower legs/ankles/feet. I can't tell whether or not they actually are swollen just by looking at them. Also, I had sore knees the other day and noticed one of them seemed to be a bit swollen. I didn't have a lot of swelling with DD so I'm hoping to avoid it this time around as well. But who knows...extra baby weight + being older = crickety joints and swelling? I hope not...
