The hospital won't let you leave until they check that your baby is in the car seat correctly and the base (if you have one) or the installation of the seat in the car.
Yes! I forgot about that.
That's interesting. Our hospital never checked the base installation, just that they were correctly strapped into the carriers.
I can't order my pump until after the baby is born. They bring the order form with your discharge paperwork. I mean I'm not planning on pumping so I won't need it anyway but that definitely doesn't make sense to me at all.
Eta: I have Kaiser and they REALLY push only baby to boob breastfeeding. They discourage even pumping so I think this is their way of continuing to shove their beliefs down women's throats by not giving them access to a pump right away.
Screw you Kaiser! What happens for Mom's with babies too small to latch right away who may be able to go home right away and not need NICU??? In my twin mom groups there were several in the 36 week 4 lb range who did not take to breastfeeding right away. Thankfully my insurance sent me my pump at 24 weeks. I was scared they would make me wait until 32 weeks which is pretty common. I had my daughters at 33 weeks and wanted to make sure I had it a bit in advance.

This really rubs me the wrong way. My baby will have low muscle tone and will have to start occupational therapy beginning at a few weeks old to help her with feeding. It's likely she won't be able to bf. You better believe I'm going to be pumping my heart out from the minute she arrives. Do they not consider this, or babies that are high risk of coming early?? I pumped every 2 hours during my 5 day hospital stay with DS. Seriously side eyeing Kaiser right now.
As far as car seat installation, they didn't check our base. They had to push me down to the car in a wheelchair, DH wasn't allowed to push me. I was not allowed to stand up/walk. Then we had to have him strapped into the seat before we could exit the building.. DH had to do it all because they still wouldn't allow me to stand (legality??) They walked me out and handed us DS in the car seat and we were on our way.
@VikingGirl12@tawny87 Yeah, I seriously have no idea how they address the preemie situation. I'd HOPE they have a small stash pre-ordered for situations like that. They're such bullies. My breastfeeding class there was a nightmare.
I'd drop Kaiser so fast but since I'm under 26 I'm still covered on my Dad's plan and everything is at no cost to me so it doesn't seem like the smartest move financially. But yes. All of the side eye.

My hospital had hospital grade ones that we could use in the NICU thankfully. Seriously, stupid beurocratic BS though. My parents have Kaiser because it was so much cheaper than all the other companies and now I see where the cost savings are coming in, by forcing women to breast feeding.
I'm in a box and it's stupid. Sorry I've been sparce for a while. Teething toddler and some doctor issues have had me down and busy. Then today was my neices birthday. I'm still here and catching up when I can. I don't always get a chance to comment though.
As for a facebook group I would probably be game at this point. Between my other bmbs and spin off groups and normal fb I am on there a lot more and it's easier for me to keep up with it all in one place.
As for the car seat question maybe it's my FFSC but we won't install ours until we leave the hospital. We only have one row and already have two seats in there. Adding the third is going to be challenging. We will likely leave the kids' seats with the Gparents when we go to the hospital so the baby will have the back seat all to himself for the ride home. Once home we will start piecing together the jigsaw that will be our back seat.
I was also going to mention the same thing as @parsonsperson (another car seat Nazi here). Not all fire stations have a licensed checker so you are better off going to the site she linked and finding one. You can also find one through this group on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/CarSeatsForTheLittles/ They are an amazing resource when it comes to car seat safety.
I hope everyone is going good and I will try my hardest to keep up better
@huskypuppy14 (and others) my insurance also has me order the breast pump at the hospital with a signed doctors order. If it's a weekday it can usually arrive before you check out, if it's a weekend or night sometimes they have to have it delivered to your house. Pretty lame, but my affiliated hospital is very baby and mom friendly so I think the policy has more to do with saving $. They'll save money on mine bc we're moving and switching insurance about a month before my due date! I assume they have hospital grade pumps there if you need to start right away for some reason. I know in one of my baby classes they mentioned that they try to get as much breastmilk as you can make to your baby if they're in NICU and you can't bf directly so they obviously must have a mechanism for that.
Otherwise I think we have good coverage. I'm moving and picking out new insurance soon, are there other negatives about Kaiser @abhernandez77? I know it's one of my options!
Oh also my actual random: I was reading a fairly large book and resting it on my belly (Inferno, the newer Robert Ludlum, I heard the movie is coming out this year). LO kicked it HARD several times and again a few minutes later when I had it on a slightly different spot. Lol baby was not happy to have that sitting on them!
Ladies dealing with insurance delays on breast pumps, when I ordered mine through one of the approved websites given to me by my insurance (Aetna PPO) it said that they wouldn't ship it until 30 days prior to my due date, then the very next day I got a shipment notification so they clearly didn't follow that rule. Just a thought if anyone wanted to place their order ahead of time, they may send it early anyway!!
I am all caught up now it's been a busy weekend on TB huh ? professional Dev training all day yesterday and today. Shoot me !!!! I just wanna be home with my snoogle. Preggo hormones literally had me CRYING yesterday at this training because we had to do an art project about how we were in the present state. I got to my station and there was a baby picture from a magazine I turned it over and it said "healthy" in Spanish. As a loss mom and a mom who struggled with infertility I knew it was a sign that I needed to make my project about my thankfulness yet nervousness in becoming a FTM. When asked to share I lost it and so did the rest of the room. so vulnerable and raw-I've come so far from that.
i ate tots on my way to my training yesterday and will again today (Dunkin makes good ones).
so it got me thinking - which brings me to my sharing this with you.
I think we allow ourselves to forget about US. What do we need, how do we feel, what can we change about our daily life to fulfill us more? So if you're your up for it do a little drawing today and share !!!
Begin by writing present state draw, sketch, cut or color write your witness - how your artwork reaches you. Words., sentences or phrases.

Wait, isn't Robert Ludlum dead? Are you talking about the Robert Langdon series?
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
This is the second time in 24 hrs that July's snarky drama has spilled onto our board. I'm starting to see them as the younger sister trying to tag along to a big kid party. ETA: And apparently @sdLindenberg has become their designated nanny. ;-) https://youtu.be/IQYEJAtlJ8U
Yeah, I thought we were an awesome board before and now I'm like...double thinking that. You'd think they have better things to do than flaming somebody who decided to change the board. Geeee, I wonder why. This might be an UO...
The hospital won't let you leave until they check that your baby is in the car seat correctly and the base (if you have one) or the installation of the seat in the car.
My hospital doesn't do that, they just ensure you take the baby out in a car seat
@lynnernon honestly until I got pregnant I had no qualms about Kaiser. It's a bit inconvenient for me because I live in Central CA which is smack dab in the middle of their coverage area. So if I want to be seen I have to drive an hour North or South.
It's nice having everything there. I had a cancer scare in high school that was resolved within 2 weeks because I had immediate access to MRIs, xrays, blood tests without having to wait for my referrals to process and such. Plus their Kaiser specific hospitals are super nice. I hope to deliver at one but that'll depend on how my labor progresses because like I said, the nearest one is an hour away.
For the record I was not snarky and actually encouraged her to lurk the two boards...Two out of a whole board came over frustrated and said their piece. A little snark never hurt anyone.
Would it not frustrate you if you had offered support and advice to a newcomer for them to immediately go to another board to complain about you for no reason?
Carseats: My hospital checked that my baby was in her carseat and it was adjusted correctly but they didn't seem like pros or anything. They didn't check the base or come out to my car at all. The infant bucket seats are easy to install. If you're going straight to a convertible seat, it's harder. My expensive, "easy" convertible seat took me 2 frustrating hours sitting on the dirty parking lot floor with the manual to get assembled and installed. So at least take it out of the box first, do any required assembly, and see what you're dealing with beforehand. I will also back up that recommendation to speak to a carseat tech. I'm super laid back about child safety in general (I'm that mom making everyone nervous by not constantly intervening with my child at the playground) but driving with my daughter every day is the most risky thing I do for either of our safety and it's worth it to take precautions to protect a child's fragile spine in the event of an accident.
Pumps: I didn't pump for the first several months with my daughter but a few of my sisters had preemies that couldn't breastfeed and I believe the hospital rented them a pump to take home with them while the babies were in the NICU? As well as a pump to use at the hospital. This was in Canada though so no idea if a similar thing would happen in the States. It's also rare here for insurance to cover pumps at all so I dunno. Worth asking at a hospital tour just in case your insurance doesn't provide it in time.
I swear, July posters.... This nanny is about to go ape shit if y'all can't keep your "your comment was rude" to yourselves. Just stop! So she doesn't like your boards. So what? That's like me going to my neighbors house complaining that someone at school was mean to me.... Ok maybe not really, but seriously, get over it. Everyone is allowed their opinion and over here in June, we ACCEPT that!!! We don't belittle them.
Yes I understand some of you ladies use both boards because you're early July, but if you can't play by our rules, go away. We were established before you got here.
And no tots this time because I haven't had my coffee yet... Ugh.
I seriously hope our randoms thread doesn't get closed down because of this random drama
Yes! I don't mind the July board and even let them know that I dont think they're all awful people on one of their threads where it came up because I have seen the awesome support that comes out over there if something is actually bad. That being said, if our randoms thread gets shutdown from their drama, this will be one pissed off pregnant lady and I may have to change my stance on the July board...
First, please kindly jump off our fav lady- she was honest, not rude
Second, we all had the same thought-- a random internet stranger didn't like y'all's board and it bothered you three enough to comment on it? I'd be all---
And just keep on walking.
Yes @HBamama2B. Just say no to folks who are "tornados of drama"! Love your second gif!!!
My random: my cat is entranced by baby's hiccups... He doesn't understand, and he keeps trying to find what's moving under the sheet!! It's hilarious.
I'm kind of jealous. My dog has yet to notice. I'm waiting until he is sitting next to me, baby kicks and he looks confused like "whaaaaatt??" It hasn't happened yet, but I'm hopeful.
So switch topics and jump back off this train before it gets derailed.
I was surprised so many people got their pumps so early because my insurance won't let you order until a month prior to your due date. I've hypothesised some things: 1) the cuts down on people who order one but unfortunately lose the baby and then have a pump they are stuck with and insurance is out the money (because when did insurance ever care about anything other than being out of the money) 2) maybe it helps with making sure they provide top of the line at home pumps? (That was me being generous) or 3 ) maybe they want to wait until people are closer to birth and have a better idea of whether they want to pump, EBF, or EFF. 4) maybe they are hoping people don't.know about the benefit and buy one for themselves or get one as a gift.
I dunno. I'm waiting for another month and a half before I can order mine. I would like to have it do I can get familiar with it, figure out what I need to buy to go with it, feel a little more confident about it blah blah blah before baby gets here and lack of sleep causes me to forget how to read or reason.

My dog doesn't give a damn. The baby loves to kick him when he snuggles up next to me (I think it's something to do with hearing his heartbeat) and he has taken it 100% in stride and doesn't even flinch. Stupid dog.

My dog doesn't give an Eff either. He just wants the stuffed animals.
My random is that I'm eating a bun with butter because I can and and I am.beyond.exhausted. My stomach has been bothering me for days and kept me up a lot last night. 7w3d....not that I'm counting or that this kid will come on time!
My random is that I woke up to a completely differently shaped bump... Baby is quiet so I'm not sure where it's hiding but my bump seems lower and not as protruded. Feel something weird in my ribs so wondering if baby finally flipped (been breech)

Did we ever hear from our resident legal expert @palisson ?
*random 5:30 am thoughts*
Then DH tried to install the car seat at 9:00pm. I heard a big ruckus and he was unpacking things without me asking.
Coincidence? I think not.
Tot power.
