@Bookhousegirl @tmk0325 @jacmkelley The concern with Ceasar salad is that the dressing might contain raw egg. Tradiationally, ceasar dressing is made that way. However, if you start asking at restaurants you'll find that it's usually not the case any more. Either they buy their dressings or just don't make it that way because of the risk. And pretty much any jarred/bottled dressing is fine, so you can make ceasars at home! I had one restaurant tell me that their dressing had raw egg, and it was a pretty fancy/high end place where everything was made from scratch. And even in that case, I had forgotten to ask about it until after I ate the salad -- and I never got sick and it was fine.

    STUCK INSIDE THE QUOTE BOX

I was going to say that unless it's a super fancy place, most restaurants don't use raw egg in their dressing now.  I've had plenty of ceasar salads while pregnant!

  • Wine.  Definitely wine.  And then beer.  Then sushi.

I'm not 100% super strict (I'll have canned tuna once a week, etc) but I won't do raw fish or unwarmed deli meats.  It's just not worth the worry.  I will, however, have a nice, delicious medium rare steak from a nice steakhouse, with bernaise sauce, which I'm pretty sure has raw (or just slightly cooked) egg in it.  mmmmmmm
  • I thought the deli meat / hot dogs thing was because of nitrates .. Not sure
  • Red wine. And Chipotle. I've been eating deli meat, and I don't like sushi. My NP said deli meat is fine. I'm more likely to get listeria from spinach or ice cream than deli meat.
  • I had GD with my last pregnancy so I ordered a cheeseburger, broccoli and the largest fruit plate they had along with a real ginger ale. Yummy!
I eat sushi, deli meat and I'm making medium rare steak for dinner tonight. Not too many restrictions this time but I will pack a split of Veuve Clicquot for after delivery. I can't wait!

^ All this! :) I totally downed a medium rare steak at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on our anniversary... and several other times.
  • @Bookhousegirl Jimmy John's is a gourmet sandwich place. So probably can't eat there because of the deli meat?

But eggs Florentine with runny eggs... DH has been making me hard poached eggs, and I've been eying his plate with it's Delicious runny eggy goodness.

  • @karaszoo1  I'm with you on the alcohol.  They say a glass of wine here and there is safe but I just won't buy in.  My aunt had a drink or two with my cousin and he has all kinds of issues.  It could be total coincidence but I just can't.

Why aren't you having a ceasar salad now??
My OB gives out a list of things to try and stay away from. Cesar salad is on it because Cesar dressing is made with raw egg, I think egg whites. In all truthfulness I ate it like crazy with DD and never had an issue. I also had a glass of wine here and there. But we had a loss in August so I'm terrified to do anything astray from what my Dr recommends! Lol, I'm sure I could go get one today and be fine. I'm just chicken!

  • I want a Big Fat Juicy Rare steak!!!
  • An Italian sub, a beer and maybe some Eggs Benedict after if I still have room. I miss runny eggs!
  • @jmknox Sudafed was on my OB's list of safe over-the-counter meds, and the pharmacist confirmed when I had to buy some. You might want to call your doc and see, but I think it's a safe one for most people.
  • I've been craving Caesar salad like mad and my husband makes it for me from scratch at home, yes with the raw egg whites. Probably the biggest pregnancy no-no I've done.
  • @Snaps816 I just choose not to take it.

  • @skichic626 Nope. I'm not normally a meat eater. After being told twice by my obgyn I needed to "strongly consider it..." and measuring anemic, twice, despite taking double iron.... I've been making the effort.
It's especially hard because the reason I am a vegetarian is I think meat tastes gross, and some secondary "animals are treated crappy" feelings. But the primary reason is food aversion issues. Which have only worsened with pregnancy. Blech.

Jealous! haha I have been fighting a pretty gnarly cold since last Tues and my dr will not let anyone take Sudafed (or any decongestant). We can take Robitussin DM and Tylenol. He's usually pretty lax with stuff (eating deli meat, traveling, pretty much everything I ask him he says yes.) So I decided to obey the Sudafed rule....
  • Red wine or a good stout.

  • I've been way less restrictive with what I'm eating this pregnancy, which mostly means I've allowed myself plenty of deli meat and soft cooked eggs.  But with the food aversions, there are plenty of things I miss enjoying that now just make me want to gag.  I'm looking forward to eating pretty much any normal meal... with a  beer.

  • I just want any complimentary alcoholic beverage with my meals.  We went to a brew pub the other day because they have great burgers and I just wanted a nice cold beer to go with it.  Ditto going to a mexican place and craving a margarita.  Or cooking dinner where I usually sip on a glass of wine.  I'm not a huge drinker, but I just really miss those pairings.

Other than that, I have not been restrictive at all in food other than moderation and trying to be healthy.  My biggest craving this pregnancy is sushi, so I eat it at least once a week, but I do try to get variations of a cali roll, although if it's from a good place, I'll go spicy tuna.  I guess you could say I'm craving a full on rainbow roll or sashimi though.

I eat deli meat quite a bit too and have never heated it up.  Both of my OBs (I had a different one for my first pregnancy) specifically crossed that off on their 'avoid' list because they said it was outdated and pointless.
  • Appitizer: glass of veuve... main dish: Margarita, with a side of a mango-rita and a strawberry margarita for dessert.
  • I keep having dreams about eating raw cookie dough while lying on a hospital bed.  Does that count as a meal??
  • Oysters with a squeeze of lemon and a full glass of beer. Blue moon. Oh how I miss you.
