My DH actually liked Divergent and Insurgent. We haven't seen the final movie yet because I have yet to read the book and I like to read the books first. He said it isn't getting good reviews though, which sucks.

I have another one -- I don't know that it's really an UO but whatever. I want to punch people who say a medical condition or allergy doesn't exist. For me it's gluten. I'm allergic to it- not horribly but enough that eating it is a horrible idea. I don't have to worry about cross contamination like those who have celiac do either. This comes up because apparently Chick Fil A now is offering a gluten free bun (!!!!) which means I can have grilled chicken sandwiches from them again if I need something fast. This lead to people at hubby's work saying gluten allergies are fake. I'm sorry, I had a doctor tell me I have an allergy to it, I also spent a lot of money for them to check to make sure that's what it was. Oh and then there's the reaction my body has when I eat it. Yea but go ahead and tell me my allergy doesn't exist.

I believe it exists and am sorry you have to deal with it. The problem is that there are so many people who abuse that allergy and treat it as a fad - some people I know even think it helps dramatically with weight loss and treat gluten free eating as some sort of diet or think it's cool to have a dietary restriction just to do it. Too bizarre.

I friggin LOVE twilight! I have all the movies, brought the books on my honeymoon, and plan on throwing in the third movie during early labor!
that said, DH and I did talk about how it's not appropriate for young people, both boys and girls. It's sexist to both groups and not good for creating a blueprint for how relationships should be.

But as a married pregnant lady? Bring on the twilight!!

I think you're 100% correct that the fad diets make it harder. I don't mind them honestly, as long as they aren't claiming it's an allergy. Most restaurants where I am ask if it is an allergy or a preference- which I appreciate-- until I hear people say allergy- and after the server walks away admit that it's actually a preference- then just say that! If it's an allergy the kitchen has to take extra steps to make sure the food is safe! Apparently a lot of people at hubby's work are in the "it doesn't exist" camp- and we have a lunchtime baby shower there tomorrow-- so chances are I won't be able to eat much if anything.

My UO....when parents really don't care how or what they say around their kids. Telling your 4 year old she's a bitch doesn't fix the problem. Adamantly praising her at 2 for her first curse word is not cute. At all. Especially when she turns around now and tells you to STFU when you tell her to do something. I just don't find the hilarity and cuteness of a child cussing.

I've added water, electrolytes, compression stockings, more rest and I still have dizzy spells where the room spins.

I actually had to write a paper on the series for a class I took on Young Adult Literature, right around when the last book came out. I decided to base it on the themes of stalking/abuse/obsession etc, because to me they were super obvious and I was feeling irritable over the way people were raving over the books. I have a tendency to overwrite and have to cut back once I get into something, but holy cow was there a lot of editing that I had to do stay under word count, because there was just so much creepiness to work with in that series.

I got a C, because while it was "very well written", I clearly "didn't understand the material very well".

And this was considered a junior/senior level college class. Wtf.

Combined with BH, dry mouth, and swelling at the same time? That's what I was referring to not just each on their own.
ETA: Most of the complaints here come with a couple of symptoms that go hand in hand with a simple solution.

@doozer1345 Thanks. No diagnosis. Tried an EKG, thyroid testing, bloodwork, testing for anemia, etc. Everything has come back clean. I've got about 3 weeks left of work, but I'm not sure if I'll make it that long!

No Twilight for me. I tried to read a plot synopsis of the Divergent books on Wikipedia (admittedly not the best way to understand the material) and I just felt like WTF is even going on here.

And as long as we're talking about terrible writing, for 50 Shades of Grey... I haven't read them. I never want to read them. If I want to read porn that is actually well written, I can find that on the internet for free.

Gilbert Godfrey's dramatic reading of 50 Shades is hilarious, though. That would be it's one saving grace.

On the bathing topic...you guys all take a shower AFTER? I have ALWAYS showered first for these reasons 1)it cleans the tub out 2)I'm perfectly clean so I won't be sitting in my own filth, and 3)because then when you get out you are still relaxed and don't have to work again.

I'm curious why most (all?) of you take the shower after?

I did the destination bachelorette party and DH did his bachelor party as a destination thing too. For me it was a combination of trying to figure out how to get all of my girlfriends together (we live ALL OVER the place) and wanting to go on vacation. I wouldn't change it for the world, I had one of the best vacations ever! It's rare that we are all able to get together since most of us live so far away from each other and we have so many stories from the trip.

As far as getting shitfaced on vacation, I don't usually but DH and I *do* take a yearly trip to New Orleans as well and we spend the entire time eating and drinking our asses off. That's actually how we met and then years later, got engaged!

For me, I usually use some sort of bath bomb or soak while bathing and want to just rinse off any residue after. I like being literally squeaky clean and my skin has always been ridiculous, so rinsing off is crucial. Also, I want to rinse out the tub so it doesn't develp a ring or build up of residue that could cause my son/MH to slip next time he gets in the tub.

And worse writing. I thought that was pretty general knowledge, 50 shades starting ad fan fict. Stephanie Myers must be so pissed off that lady is making money off her story.

What gets me is these books are getting si many kids reading again (ignoring how bad the stories are) and then the first thing Hollywood does is make it into a movie! Its crazy!

If you bathe after the bath still isn't necessarily clean, because all your filth has fallen in the tub from the shower. I usually shower after just because it makes more sense to me and because if I take a bath it isn't usually just a bath, I usually put something in there and don't want it stay on me, like last night it was Epsom salt. I smelled like the ocean when I was done in the bath. lol

I do the same thing with papers! I had to cut 15 pages off of my senior thesis... that was only supposed to be 40-50 pages long. Oops! Though I will say I really want to read your paper! (that sounds very weird I know)

I have a few friends like this with their kids. And they wonder why they're little terrors now. -.-

ETA: I was hoping it wasn't an UO either, but it seems to be common enough. Especially in younger parents. Not to stereotype by any means, but it's what I've experienced.

This is really something i think about constantly. I work in a fertility pharmacy and deal with lots of patients who are trying or have had losses and continue to try...breaks my heart that something that was so easy for me is not for these women who would make AMAZING mothers.

I hate that. My best friend's sister thought it was hilarious when her son said his first cuss word at two. My best friend's son has cussed too because she doesn't watch her mouth around her kid. I don't find it funny at all. People never said bad words like that around me growing up and people better not dare talk that way infront of my child!

YES! I had HG with my first pregnancy that ended in a loss and this time I've worked so hard to not complain because on the other side is NOT having a baby. A girl I know has complained non stop and I had to stop being friends with her. I understand how uncomfortable pregnancy is and how hard it is but really, you're puking so much you wanna die but aren't going to go to a doctor? Jeez.

Adamantly praising her at 2 for her first curse word is not cute. At all. Especially when she turns around now and tells you to STFU when you tell her to do something. I just don't find the hilarity and cuteness of a child cussing.

Well, I used to lurk on another pregnancy board (before I found this one), and there was a big thread about little kids cursing, and you wouldn't believe the number of moms who thought it was cute and funny. Like, the ones who didn't were in the minority.

For me, I usually use some sort of bath bomb or soak while bathing and want to just rinse off any residue after. I like being literally squeaky clean and my skin has always been ridiculous, so rinsing off is crucial. Also, I want to rinse out the tub so it doesn't develp a ring or build up of residue that could cause my son/MH to slip next time he gets in the tub.

If you bathe after the bath still isn't necessarily clean, because all your filth has fallen in the tub from the shower. I usually shower after just because it makes more sense to me and because if I take a bath it isn't usually just a bath, I usually put something in there and don't want it stay on me, like last night it was Epsom salt. I smelled like the ocean when I was done in the bath. lol

The tub wouldn't be any more dirty than when you rinse it off and down the drain before your bath...I would think it would be cleaner because it's had longer in hot water to rinse down the nasty. It makes sense to rinse off after if you've used a bath bomb or epsom salt though. Sometimes I'll rinse off real quick after, but I don't take my full on shower after.

Man, I cannot get worked up about the likelihood that my kid is going to be a foulmouthed little bastard.

We live in the city. People get drunk and just yell "FUUUUUUUUUUCCKKKK" on the streets at the top of their lungs like some kind of deranged mating cry pretty much every weekend night. (These people are mostly from Jersey, btw, they don't actually live here. My opinions regarding the classiness of the fine state of New Jersey have really skyrocketed since moving to this city.)

Anyway, kid's gonna hear every possible permutation of every possible curse word and phrase before he's in preschool, no matter what I do. So, welp, at this point my attitude is that I'm just gonna teach him how to curse well, since if you're going to do it, you might as well do it with flair.

YES! I had HG with my first pregnancy that ended in a loss and this time I've worked so hard to not complain because on the other side is NOT having a baby. A girl I know has complained non stop and I had to stop being friends with her. I understand how uncomfortable pregnancy is and how hard it is but really, you're puking so much you wanna die but aren't going to go to a doctor? Jeez.

Im a loss mum, and have a couple of friends who are struggling with secondary infertility. Yes women constantly complaining about pregnancy is annoying, but my UO is so what. Just because someone is struggling with infertility doesn't mean pregnancy is a walk in the park and they shouldn't complain. This pregnancy has been way harder than my second and if I wasn't able to complain from time to time, I'd go mad!

To say you shouldn't complain because someone else is struggling to even get pregnant minimises the difficulty someone else is going through and might prevent someone seeking help they might need.

In saying that, there is room for tact, and some people definitely lack tact filling FB with every little difficulty they have.

I agree with you- of course everyone gets a complaint, it's the constant complaints (I guess ungratefulness?) that drives me nuts.
