We are choosing all family names. I think we decided for a girl, Lillian Dora May. I also like: Charlotte, Lottie for short, Ellen, Nellie for short, Rosemary, Flossie, Frieda and Augusta. For a boy, Russell William Richard I also love Jens, Jacob, Marshall, Clayton, Arthur and Lyall.
Right now we have a few we are throwing around. My father was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, so I want to honor him in some way. His name is Kenneth, so for boy or girl, I want to use his name for the middle name. Boy: Colton Kenneth Mason Kenneth
Girl: Layla Mackenzie Layla Kenlee (Lee is the middle name of my very best friend who has helped me through so much in life)

We have narrowed down the boy name to Luke but can't decide on a middle. I like Luke Charles, Luke Frederick but my huaband likes Luke Matthew. I prefer a family name in the baby's name, as my family has always done that, but it also depends on the flow! Any other middle name ideas?
Since everyone is convinced it's a boy, we haven't delved into girl names too much but I love Emelyn Ann (my middle name) or Annalise (no middle name picked yet)
All right . . . I'll play. For a boy so far our top contender is Lincoln Walter. Lincoln because DH loves presidents and he's his favorite, and Walter for my grandfather. The only problem is I am very much anti-trendy names, and Lincoln seems to be trending right now. :-( I thought we were being creative but I've seen several other mentions of it as a baby name around recently, so we may have to come up with a new game plan.
For a girl, we like Vivienne, Piper, and Cecily so far, but none of them is really grabbing me so far. Perhaps Claire (my grandmother's middle name) as a middle name -- I particularly like Cecily Claire with "Ci Ci" as a nickname.
We will see though. There's still lots of time. And I like the idea of going to the hospital with several top contenders and seeing what fits. The trouble is I am leaning more and more towards team green, and coming up with several acceptable names for each gender is starting to sound overwhelming . . .

My husband and I could not agree on any boy names except Rory, which I love, and he then decided he couldn't pronounce. Sigh. We tabled boy names until we found out gender, which we got last week.
Girl! We both love Stella. I am keeping Amelia as a close second, nickname Millie. We decided a long time ago that our child's middle name would be James, regardless of gender. It's after my husband's father's middle name. He passed away about 10 years ago, when my husband was in his early 20's.
So, long story short, Stella James and Amelia James are on the short list.
I'm so confused on both a boy and a girl name. I have a SD and SS. My SS is named after my husband and grandfather. I have no clue what name I could possibly come up with that is strong enough. I secretly hate that my SS is named after my husband because now if we have a son that he will not feel special. And for a girl I have had my heart set on Hannah since I was a little girl... I also kept my maiden name which we plan to use as a second middle name for the kids but that is making initials and figuring out the flow even more complicated.

@WildMama I really like Rowan a lot for a boy! I haven't heard it as a girl's name and I'd be surprised if it became super popular for girls, but I could definitely be wrong. I like Theo, but I prefer it as a nickname for Theodore.
@WildMama, I've heard of Rowan on girls, but not any more than, say, Mason or Elliott, which are in no danger of crossing over.
Leo seems more popular than your other names, though maybe I should look it up before running my mouth. Sebastian Siham and Silas Siham both seem like kind of a mouthful. But doable. First + middle combos aren't the be-all and end-all of names to me -- they're fun to play with but not even close to the primary way the name will be experienced.

I just checked the SSA baby name site and I'm so sad to see my girl name was ranked 15 in 2014. It was my grandmothers so it has meaning but I just hate the idea of my hypothetical daughter being 1 of 4 with the same name in her class. My sister is Emma and she was born in 96 right when the name started to become popular again. There were always at least 3 other Emmas in her classes or sports teams. Blerg.

@MRSCORKER that's the way I feel about our boy name, Liam, which apparently has been in the top 10 for a few years now (I wish I would've known that when we started discussing it as a possibility). Unfortunately it's the ONLY name DH and I can agree on. I HATE almost every boy name. I have 3 names, and DH doesn't like the other two. My only hesitation is how popular it is all of a sudden
@LGW2015I'm so with you on that. Liam has been my #1 boy's name before DH and I even got married, and it's one of the few we agree on. Now it's so overwhelmingly popular that I'm having doubts. Oo I love Eleanor! Check the popularity by state if you are concerned, it may be more popular if you live in New England, for example. But even if it is rising in popularity, I think it'll stay behind Ella / Emma / Emily for a while. If it's a family name and you love it you should go for it, and this is coming from someone who is staunchly against popular baby names.

I'd like the middle name to be Dueane, after my grandfather, but my husband's a bit against that because our firstborn's first name is his first name - Albert. I like Josiah for a middle name as well.

My husband doesn't like that it is slang for marijuana, which I can understand. I also really like Edith Ann (my middle name) or Edith Jane. My husband likes Lois Lucille, which I like as well, but then we're naming our daughter exclusively after his side of the family, which I don't care for.

Boo to the bolded. I can see where that assumption comes from, and I'd be very interested to read the article. I'd always assumed it was a patriarchal thing- with more father to son names than mother to daughter.

One of my best friends is named Eleanor, but she's in her 20's and I haven't come across another Eleanor in my circle. (I'm from the south.) I also love the spelling Elinor, which is how Jane Austen spelled it in Sense and Sensibility. I will say that my friend's name is ALWAYS pronounced EleanEr except by her family, and she hates that. It could be just a southern thing though.

I read it as "Emmy" but honestly, who cares if people mis-pronounce it. It will still be her name regardless of how people read it. My name is pronounced incorrectly ALL THE TIME. I just correct them and move on, no biggie.

@cd92007 I pronounced it "Emme" at first, but then also pronounced it Emmy. I'm not a big fan of names spelled like that only because I think it makes it hard on the kid for first time users of the name. I have a friend of who named their kid Jayce and I have always wanted to call it Jay-cee.

My first name is Elyse (ahhh, stranger danger!!!) It's usually spelled Elise but my mom got fancy with the Y. I have been called Elsie my whole life by people who can't see that the y comes before the s. It used to get on my nerves but whatevs. I like that there weren't 5 other girls with my name in my class. I meet someone with my name occasionally but it's very rare and almost always spelled the traditional way.
