Love the shelves. Looked for them myself and found them on IKEA for 3.99 but shipping was outrageous. Cheaper to go through Amazon (if you have Prime) $15/2 shelves that way. Definitely planning on adding something like this. Thanks @jlmartinez517
@Racso12 the bookshelves are actually spice racks from Ikea that we painted white! $4.99 a spice rack the other white shelves are also from Ikea - I used two stains on the brackets but the white shelves came that way!
Don't feel bad @pandaferh I live right by an ikea and they don't sell the shelves in the store!! I looked a while ago. I ended up registering for the Amazon ones, haha!
@jlmartinez517 Love your nursery! Just a word of advice, we used the spice rack "bookshelves" for DD in her room when she was little. We had some low like that, and didn't even think about the fact that when she was pulling herself up, she might pull herself up and use the lowest bookshelf as a support. She ended up ripping it right out of the wall! My friend had a good laugh (she had done the same in her nursery), so when her son was at the age where he was pulling himself up, then moved the lowest one above the top one, and put a small basket down on the floor with books that he could look at himself (cloth ones and Indestructible brand books). So then he could still get to some of the books, but she could still have other books in the shelves. With one screw in a anchor, and one screw in a stud, I was NOT picturing that a 11 (or so) month old would rip that sucker out of the wall!
I just mentioned going to Ikea to my husband and he turned white. The color literally drained from his face. If he wasn't so genuinely distressed, I would have laughed. Looks like I will be recruiting a girl friend to join me.
I have this week off for spring break, so I'm working on a few baby projects. We have our furniture in except a bookcase we are waiting on. I'll also be painting the alphabet on a panel. I obviously need to hang these on the wall too.

Haha! I remember going to Ikea last time I was pregnant at like, 8.5 months. I picked out all of the stuff I wanted to buy, and then realized I couldn't lift most of it. I had to ask random people to help me.
I think my husband has heard that sob story enough times. He came with me a few weeks ago to buy my 2 year old's big girl bed.
@mnkenned the crib is the Emerson model from pottery barn kids - I didn't take a picture of that part of the room yet, because I'm waiting on a piece of art to get here and mount above it
@Natinat6 my husband is the same way! We went to Ikea a few weeks ago and it was pure torture for him. He said he would rather pay for shipping than have to set foot in that store.
@jlmartinez517 - ahh I couldn't remember where I had seen it. I couldn't decide whether I liked the round spindles but they look super cute in your room.
@kellyjg123@givemepenguinss honestly, I usually do what I have termed my pre-husband shopping recon. I will go to the store or look online prior to bringing and or showing my husband anything. He is so miserable at the mall or anywhere else and I know him so well, I usually get it right on the first try. He's terrible company and sulks.
This is how we only went to one wedding venue, talked to one photographer and interviewed one caterer when we were married.
If it's really important and I tell him I want him to do it, he will and he will be a good sport. Our ikea is only 20 minutes away. I might go poke around a bit and bring him back after work one day next week
@Natinat6 pre scouting is important. When I take my husband to ikea (which is so rare, and the last time I did it he was sick and such a grump I tried to convince him to get a meatball and just wait for me to be done) I've got a list of exactly what we need so there's no dilly dallying. Because otherwise I get a grumpy sad sack husband and I just don't have time for that.
I am the husband you all are describing when it comes to shopping. I legit get to a point when DH is looking at stuff that I can not take it anymore and I tantrum. It's rough. DH is a browser, he wants to see everything, I prefer shopping online. In my pajamas. If I'm remotely crabby before shopping DH refuses to take me because it will only get worse...
I am insanely jealous of all these cute nurseries! We have next to nothing for little one yet, including a crib. I want to set everything up and start nesting, but we'll likely be moving a month before baby gets here so I'm trying to hold off. Boo!
Edit: hit post before finished typing.
I am right there with you!!! I have Pinterest dreams though! lol! We have a crib, but I want to paint it white once we move and I kick DS out.
I love reading through this thread, there's some great ideas! We have a while since she will share a room with us for an unknown amount of time. Her name is Alice and she's going to also share a room at some point with our two year son for a while, so I think I'm just going to do a gender neutral Alice in Wonderland print for the wall from Etsy. I don't really do themes as I like rooms that grow for years and right now big brother Jonah's room is light green, almost a white, with light blue accents and bird silhouette prints. I think once she's a little older and Jonah has moved into another room with his older brothers, I'd like to do a vintage tea party type theme. A small table and chairs, a kids tea set, maybe some floral tea saucers on the wall. ETA- sorry to waste this space, apparently I can't upload pics right now and my siggy is completely gone, so something's up.
Mom to Emma, Noah, Isaac, Asa, Asher, Jonah and expecting baby Alice 7/16
Finished painting today! It's completely empty except for the changing table (which has no knobs right now). We'll start setting up everything next weekend.
I still have to find some wall decor, but we're almost there with the nursery I have the dresser and changing topper set up on the opposite wall. the little sock monkey bunny was an easter gift from SIL
Major progress today! A couple in my neighborhood posted the crib and changing table for sale this week for way cheap, so I decided to get them instead of the new ones I was looking at and I painted them today to match the room! I made the curtains last week and I still need to make those monsters into a mobile over the changing table and recover the chair in the corner, but it's actually looking like a nursery now and I'm so excited!!!
@Brittnic531 Thanks! Nope. I just placed them on the wall then took a step back to see it the dots lined up. It's super easy and you can restick them if they're off a little.
Our nursery is officially ready! We bought a old wood dresser used and took it completely apart, re painted it and added a wood plank top to help match the crib! The rocking chair was also purchased used and my mom stained and laquerd it for us! We painted the wood lands animals above the crib and I found the wood frames at homesense. We stained wood then put it together and my mom wrote the quote out you are our greatest adventure.. And finally we found this wood stump when I first got pregnant and we have been drying it out and sealing it ever since!! Our nursery was a giant DIY project but I'm soooo happy with how it all came together!
This room was previously our second guest room and got taken over by our pup. We spent the weekend scrubbing it from top to bottom, hanging up new wall decor and curtains and putting the changing table together. The pictures on the back wall are framed maps of my husband and I's home states. The glider comes this week and will go in the left corner and the crib will go to the right across from the bed. It's getting assembled this weekend. I wanted to keep the option of having it be a second guest space and also a comfy place to nurse at night so my husband can keep sleeping. We're team green and really just wanted a relaxing space that can grow with baby.
So we're in a really weird situation: We don't know if our son will live long enough to come home. But we had started some nursery projects before we got the bad news, and it seemed too tragic not to finish them. So Mom finished his curtains. We completed his quilt together (though she did the actual machine quilting and deserves 90% of the credit!). The crib mattress will be delivered soon, and then the bedding will go on. It's bittersweet, but it feels good to make something nice for him. Also: The castle is covered in tiny kittycat faces!!!
Re: The Nursery Thread!
Everything on this website is expensive but what I've been doing is just getting ideas from their site and buying similiar items from somewhere else.
