Passed my 3 hour!! I have my regular appointment this afternoon but saw my results were available and couldn't wait so called this morning. The first draw was slightly elevated so they said to watch simple sugars but the rest were normal. Finally feel like I can relax a little
I might need a little advice from a STM that has had GD previously...or someone that has experienced what I am. I'll try to make this short. @LondonToSavannah maybe you would have some input on this.
My 1-hour glucose results were elevated. During my 3-hour test, my fasting draw was normal, my 1-hour and 2-hour draws were elevated and my 3-hour went back to normal.
I eat very healthy...pre-pregnancy and even during my pregnancy. Whole grains, lean meats, fruits and veggies, a majority of my fats being unsaturated, pop has never really been my thing and I'll eat the occasional sweet treat every so often.
So, I was diagnosed with GD and have been testing my blood 4 times a day for almost a week now. The highest number I have recorded is a 112, 1-hour after eating (they need me to be under 140). I haven't changed my diet one bit because I already eat within the guidelines. I even threw a big cookie in the mix yesterday and it didn't spike at all. Is it possible that the sugary drink just threw me out of whack during the tests because my body isn't used to it? When I report my good numbers next week, will they just slap me on the ass, send me on my way and tell me I don't need to worry about checking my blood anymore?!
@clbness I don't think they will "undiagnose" you (just made up that word ;-) but I imagine that they will have you keep doing what you are doing and want continued blood monitoring. It's good news because you won't need any kind of medication to help control your numbers.
I was able to control mine the first time only with diet, but as I got closer to my due date, I think around 37 weeks my fasting number was creeping up so they put me on the lowest dose of metformin to keep that under control. That and weekly ultrasounds to measure size.
@LondonToSavannah The word totally works...go with it. I will continue to do whatever they need me to do to keep LO healthy! Thank you for your input. I'm glad yours was manageable the last time and non-existent this time!
Just finished getting the glucose test done for the second time because of a goof with my vials. My doctors office made up for the error by giving me well over $100 worth of free formula supplies (I will be bottle feeding). Definitely a much happier camper!!
Just feeling annoyed at my OBs office. Im 31.5 weeks and am just now having my 3 hr tomorrow - if Im positive, what damage has been done already? They "just forgot" at my earlier appointments...even though office policy is to screen everyone. Oops. Theyve been very blase about it. Just got off the phone with the nurse because I wanted to hammer down a length of fast - they recommend "8 to 16 hrs fasting." THATS A HUGE RANGE. so what - how long should I fast? I got frustrated with her because she couldn't give me an answer and I said, "Well how are you supposed to interpret the results between a woman who fasted 8 hrs and one who fasted 16?" "We feel our results are fine, just follow the instructions you were given." Well Im sorry but as a pregnant lady, theres a massive difference between 8 and 16 hrs of not eating.
So, how long did you guys have to fast? Would like to do this right since the test is already so late :-(
@Karenpreggo My 3-hour test started around 8:15 am and I was instructed to not eat after midnight. The last thing I ate was some canned tuna and half an avocado around 9 pm. Good luck on your test!
@Karenpreggo I had to take the 3 hour with my first pregnancy and I'm pretty sure they told me to just not eat anything after midnight for a 9am test. Good luck!
@karenpreggo I was told the same for my 9:15am test - nothing after midnight. I had my last snack before bed/around 9pm to keep it within the 12 hour range.
Also, I did my 3 hour test at about 31 weeks. Considering most do their 1 hour between weeks 24-28, then if they fail the go back, 31 weeks isn't really that bad. I was concerned as well, but then I think if they did the 1 hour at 28 weeks and the 3 hour at 29, then really, that's only 2 weeks later for me.
Mine were both scheduled for late morning. Passed the first, don't know about the second yet. But you will be very hungry after. If time allows plan on eating a meal right after. Or at the very least bring a granola bar or something for right after.
I wanted to edit this but I was unable to. I passed this pregnancy too. The number was in the 80's, just like last pregnancy.
Got the same result (passed sugar test, but "slightly anemic"). Doc recommended taking Floradix. I wonder if this has to do with the fact that I inadvertently had to cut down on eating red meat because I could no longer have my medium-rare steaks and burgers But I bet it has to do with the fact that our babies are siphoning off our iron for themselves GL!
Mine was a good number and I haven't had red meat or pork for well over a decade.
