Not a big fan of the 'Real Answers' on TB. They always seem to be similar questions asked on the trimester board (just nicer response). I especially think the ones asking about names are silly. If you like the name why does it matter what the world thinks!
I don't think over packing for the hospital is a big deal at all. Everyone stresses over taking too much. I'd rather have stuff I don't need, then end up not having something I either needed or wanted. Over packing FTW!
Disclaimer, I think some people might reach a point of over-packing, however, if they look like they're going on a 2 week vacation...
@fbanke42 my DH didn't eat a hot dog or burger till after we met. Even then it was just meat and bun. He's a weirdo! I say load it up except for pickles eww.
I loathe pickles, steak, spaghetti, and sweet tea. Always have. Can't stand them, have zero desire to make/serve them to my kids, would rather they not exist at all.
Mmmmmm burgers...my "weirdest" craving this pregnancy has been cheeseburger with pickles and mayo. I'd eat that not pregnant too (though I'm usually a boring burger person too, just bun patty and cheese), but if I have a burger right now it MUST have pickles and mayo. YUM.
Condiments might be the saddest UO thread ever. Trying so hard to think of something controversial...okay: I really don't get why so many Americans are scared enough of terrorism (when it occurs in Europe or the U.S.) to want to violate pretty commonly held American values to make themselves feel safer. It's such a distortion of what we should be worried about (in terms of what is more likely to affect you or a loved one) and so far beneath us (referring now to suggestions for "patrolling" American Muslims' neighborhoods, whatever that means in light of post-9/11 law enforcement efforts to infiltrate those communities).
Thanks ladies, now all I want to do is grill out! I REALLY want a Johnsonville brat on a hard roll. BUT our grill didn't survive the move last fall and we haven't replaced it yet. Grrrr.
@jadablue Agreed. Especially when it's not like there are secret ISIS parties in the neighborhood, it's pretty commonly known that recruitment is handled online. They should be putting more effort into monitoring that activity.
@Missingchampagne I guarantee you they are looking into and pursuing all avenues that terrorists groups may be using to recruit members. As much as we may think we're "owed" the right for the government to be completely transparent in everything they do, we aren't owed that right at all. In fact, if we were given information of every government activity that was currently being carried out, it would probably jeopardize our safety far too much. But the fact that we DON'T know everything the government does also opens them up to scrutiny, with people saying they aren't doing things that they ARE, we just don't have the knowledge publicly. Or even vice versa, that they ARE doing things that they AREN'T. On top of that, people who are extremists to the left or right or in any direction of thinking are going to have conspiracies about what is and isn't being done by the government. We will never know the full extent of what the government does for us (which of course, means things will be done that we do not agree with).
That being said, I myself am a conservative Christian Republican but I absolutely positively do not agree in the least with lumping all people of one religion, or any "one" defining factor for that matter, into an individual category. I majored in Christian Ministries for my undergrad, and as part of that took a World Religions course and two courses specifically on Islam. This was post-9/11. There is an extremely small percentage of people who claim to have affiliations with the Islamic faith that are actually a threat to the mass of society. We have no right and no business "investigating" all the Muslims simply because they are Muslim. The Islamic faith is, in itself, a peaceful religion. The idea of jihad, or "holy war", in the actual Islamic scriptures almost exclusively refers to a "war within ones self", and not a violent physical war against the world. These terrorists groups are virtually no different than Christian "cults", that have taken PARTS of a religious text and twisted it to suit their needs.
I've been wanting to grill so bad. I decided to plan a bbq for easter. How traditional right. Pregnancy Win! On that note. My SO was raised Jahovahs so the bbq makes it less of a holiday for him lol
@imrachellea I didn't mean to imply that we know everything going on, or even that we should. Frankly I'm not one of those people who cares if the gov't reads every last thing I do online. I'm sure I match up with the patterns of a ton of other people and am not that fascinating to anybody important, so I never get too worked up over the illusion of "online privacy" because I do believe it's for a greater good.
What is sad is that I was under the impression that the fact that Islam was a peaceful religion, and the other points you mentioned about extremists groups being the problem, were commonly known among the American public. I thought that info was dessiminated fairly quickly post-911. However, with the way the polls are looking, there are clearly A LOT of people who say one thing in public and feel a completely different way when they go home at night.
mmmmm I want a burger. Maybe if it's not raining this evening I can convince SO to grill us up some burgers.
red meat. yum!
My UO? I do *not* want to go into labor. At all. Ever. I have 2 weeks til my edd and every one kept telling me how "over it" I'd be in the 9th month and how "slow" the 9th month will be but it's fucking flown by and I'm not ready for labor. I'm not ready for vagina pain. I'm not ready for my life to be completely changed forever, no take backs, etc.
@Missingchampagne The unfortunate thing is that every time something big happens in regards to the threat to our safety, people are going to run for cover to their comfort zones. The old mantra of "history repeats itself" is no joke. Take a look back historically at all the times when society has created mass hysteria due to preconceived notions about people who meet one single identifying factor. We can look back as recently as World War II, the genocides in Rwanda, the Kurdish genocide in Iraq, even the assimilation of Native Americans. These preconceived notions people have of each other don't just go away. Even when we think we have moved past their stereotypes and fears, it literally only takes one thing to realize we've never changed at all. And that is really sad...
So the grill was one of the things in early pregnancy that made me sick. It was painful because we grill non stop in the summer and I still crave a good charcoal grilled burger but can't be anywhere near the grill.
I am obviously the odd one because the more you put on my burger the happier I am. Mayo, ketchup, mustard, cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. YUM! When I was in college my roommates used to give me a hard time about eating wet diapers because the burgers were so heavy.

I like a lot of junk on my burgers too! chunky lettuce, fat tomato slices....mmm.
@Ready4theParty The grill was KILLER for me early on. And apparently that has come back in this last week or so. DH would make stuff on the grill and even just him walking by me with the faint smell of grill on him I wanted to throw up. He made a prime rib over the weekend, and for dinner one night this week he was taking slices of the leftovers to do a quick high heat char on them...the patio door was open and I was feeling sooooo crappy.
@yodiggity if they find protein in my urine and decide to induce, I will cry shamelessly. I am NOT READY and am prepared to be uncomfortable for another 5 weeks because if she's healthy, I'm waiting until 42 weeks. I will not pack my hospital bag or install the car seat because I don't want to jinx myself!

I would be ok with going the extra 2 weeks (well, maybe one) over as well. I do *not* want to be induced at all.

The doc actually found protein in my urine at my last appointment and acted like it was no big deal since my BP was fine and baby did well on NST. Kind of surprised me!
My UO: I kind of hate Easter. Everyone assumes it should be my favorite holiday because bunnies are everywhere and on everything but that's kind of why I hate it. We've run a rabbit rescue the last 6 years and we always get flooded with people wanting us to take their unwanted "Easter bunnies" that they stupidly bought for their kids. One year we had over 22 rabbits in our house by the end of April that all needed to be spayed and neutered and many needed expensive vet care that we paid out of pocket for ourselves.
TLDR; don't buy your kids Easter bunnies. They're expensive AF when cared for properly and are too fragile to be handled correctly by most children.
The idea of going into labor spontaneously stresses me out. I was induced with my first two because of pre e and high bp. So far so good this time at 38+4. I've officially made it further than I did with #2.
But the idea of knowing when to go in, getting the kids where they need to be and my husband working an hr away causes anxiety.

I feel ya. Today (38w5) is as far as I got with DD and even though I went naturally with her, I was scheduled for induction at 39, so I was mentally prepared. Now that we have to have a plan for DD too, the not knowing is super stressful. Especially after weeks of irregular contractions and being partially dilated already.
My UO is I will not eat at Chipotle, Panera or Chik-Fil-A. Gross excuse for 'Mexican food,' every item I've ever tried is blah, and bigoted. No, thanks!

Have you tried their chocolate croissants???
Yes. Meh.
Eta: @pinottoparenthood hahahaha! I know people love all of those, but I just can't! UO UO UO!
I know I have lots of objectionable opinions but at this point I'm having a hard time thinking of them. I feel like a failure for not being able to stir up trouble here.

I could not agree more. I am feeling things I didn't feel with my first. I feel like I am a FTM all over again because my gut is saying she is coming before her due date - which I didn't feel with Dd. As uncomfortable as I am, I would be ok with going late.

I'm also one of those weirdos who eats almost nothing on their burger... Just bun, patty, and ketchup.
also I'm with @fbanke42 that mustard is disgusting.
