My fiance and I had a plan to work together to get back in shape after baby. I expected to need to lose wieght, but then genetics kicked in and I am up only one pant size. But I am still eating like I am pregant so even though my shape is fine, my weight is creeping up. I make a point to pack my lunch every morning before work. An avacado and an appropriate serving of chili, a bag of nuts and trail mix, carrots and ranch... so work days I do really well.
Weekends when I am at home are a totally different story. MiL bought us chocolate for Valentines day and I eat WAY too much of it. There are too many nights of the week where we are too "tired" (read as lazy) to make a proper dinner and resort to fast food instead.
My goal is to cut fast food down to once a month (because you gotta treat yo self sometimes) and to keep up with my activity. Thankfully I have an app on my phone that notifies me if I haven't been active enough. Before baby I wanted to achieve 6000 steps for 60 mins of activity. When I got back to it, about 3 w pp, I cut it in half and am slowly working my way back up to an hour.
I wish I could say that I am going better, but I am not. I work out maybe 2x a week and although I would love to do my ab exercises every day, I don't. I prefer to nap...
I am working on eating better, having a serving of fruit and/or veggies with each meal. I have just discovered broiled Brussels sprouts and frankly they are delicious! But it's hard to not want some cookies as dessert
This week I joined Stroller Strides where I take one hour work out class 3 times a week and can bring my DS. It's nice because the instructor will help out when kiddos start fussing. I'm better when I have actual classes to attend than leaving it up to myself to work out at home. Plus I don't have to figure out a babysitter. Right now it takes place in a local mall and when it gets nice, it will be in a park. I encourage you to look up one in your area, I believe they are all across the country!
I only have two weeks left of maternity leave and I tried on my work pants and they are snug but they fit (thank God). The weather finally got nice enough out for me to take DS for a walk so I am going to try to do that 3x/week now as long as it's nice enough outside. I still have 14lbs to lose to get to pre-baby weight.
Working out is SO HARD right now! I have never felt so out of shape (for obv reasons)!! I have been getting back into running and can do about 2 miles now but it HURTS. It hurts my chest, my legs, my pride, but I'm trying to keep going. Doing resistance training MWF. When I resumed exercise I was 15lb up from prepregnancy weight and have lost 3 more after 2.5 weeks so hopefully I can keep this up. I'm sick of looking and my "mom pouch."
Also, I have heard a lot of people say they didn't lose the rest of their weight until stopping breast feeding? Anyone have experience with this?
We moved to a new city and we are living downtown. I had all these great visions of walking around with the stroller and going to new places... Getting my steps in and burning calories. Well, we walked 2 blocks to the DMV on Friday and I was so scared the whole way! I thought I was going to get mugged when I ended up down a bad street! Plus there are so many homeless people around now because the weather was nice, I kept thinking someone would come up to me asking for money or something (normally I don't care really, I just don't want someone I'm nervous about around my baby). I guess I have to go to the gym in the building instead or leave the city to walk.
@ammnam14 Thanks for that suggestion. We're going to do a Hike it Baby walk this week. I can't wait!
We've been walking and I'm down anther two pounds..wearing her seems to help flatten out my tummy pouch. I also rode a giant, reluctant horse this morning and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of things I could get her to do, but my legs may or may not fall off.
Eating is tough bc I'm socializing through brunches and happy hours.
I've been keeping up with walking about three miles a day during the week and decided to bust out my Jillian Michaels DVDs today. Every time she told me not to "phone it in" if I wanted results I really wanted to punch her. I couldn't even complete the whole thirty minute work out. The first 30 pounds came off so quickly that I think I took it for granted and really fell off the healthy eating wagon. Working on getting that back in check.
Hi ladies. I finally decided I feel good enough to try getting fit again. Coming from 13 year veteran of the couch potato club, I found that it's a lot more challenging than I bargained for. Yesterday, I went looking for a postnatal beginners video on you tube and found 'momsintofitness.' I did the week one exercise clip from the 30 day challenge. Today I had the choice between a rest day and cardio. I chose cardio and struggled to hurtle my fanny across 5 ft of living room for 10 minutes...haha! I also discovered Tabata and lasted all of 5 minutes, rofl at myself. I would have tried to finish the other 5 minutes but one of my twins decided that was a good time to let me know that the lions were about to get her... So here I sit all sweaty and feeling places I had forgotten about. But, I also feel really good like I should be proud that I peeled myself off the couch. I probably won't try Tabata again for a while. I just want to say that the workouts on the calendar seem totally doable and I look forward to tomorrow's work out.
I also want want to add that loading everything I stuff in my face into my fitness pal is a challenge all by itself lol... But it does help me mind the foraging between meals.
My goal is to drop 40 pounds and be able to jog 3 miles within the next 2 years.
I recently had a birthday and my sweet husband gifted me some Baby and Me yoga classes and a membership to the YMCA. Has anyone used the YMCA Child Watch? It'll be the first time I've left DD with anyone besides her dad, but it's only a 2 hour max and it comforts me that they have a low infant to staff ratio (you have to call and schedule a spot) and they require wellness and vax records. I'm looking forward to a spin class and an uninterrupted shower!
ETA I called to schedule DD a spot in the infant room and the woman on the phone acted shocked that I'd put her in the child watch for 90 minutes at her age. Am I being a terrible mother?
@mhuber223 this is why I haven't gone to my own ymca yet, I'm too scared to leave baby with strangers...our ymca daycare also looked great, clean, and had a low caregiver to child ratio. maybe it will help my transition back to work to do it for 90 minutes at a time while I'm in the building and can be paged if needed...
Also, I have somehow managed to gain 4lbs, even though I'm eating better and doing baby accompanied lunges and squats. So frustrating!
@rzaremba I tried the child watch today, and it went really well! I do kind of think that it's easing me into leaving her for work. The workers were really nice and comforting when I told them that I'd never left DD with anyone. When I came back, she was happily sitting in a bouncy seat and looking/grabbing at a hanging toy. She cried when I took her out and left. Cool.
ETA I also like that they have my phone number and I had to write down which class I was taking so that they could easily find me if needed.
I'm 4 lbs away from pre pregnancy weight, woohoo! I started Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide on Monday and weightlifting. I'm a lot happier now that I've started exercising! I also have a free link to the guide if anyone is interested. Also need recommendations for a great pre workout/protein for women! Currently using DHs and it's nasty lol.
Hey, haven't posted yet... But I was 120 lbs Prepreg, gained up to 160 lbs and now I'm at 140. I'm miserable. I've been walking daily, doing Jillian Michaels 20 min workout on top of that, eating healthy (with no bread or desserts) and even cutting back on my daily glass of wine (formula feeding so no haters please) with NO results yet. I'm so depressed about it. I have this fat on my stomach that I can't get rid of. Any tips? Also, even with warm ups, my knees are extremely wobbly when working out. 12 weeks postpartum, anyone having this? My goal is so unrealistic at this point, getting back down to my 115 lb weight from two years ago.
@chaelainev feeling like your knees are wobbling is totally normal at this point. The hormone that loosens all of your joints during pregnancy takes a while to clear your system. Don't be discouraged about your weight loss. You are doing all the rights things, and you will get there if you keep at it. Just remember it took 9 months to put they weight on, give yourself time to take it back off.
So I finally had my 8 week post-op appointment this week and I was told that my abs are healing up well (diastasis recti) and I was given the all clear to work out! Yay!
I am taking it slow and trying to ease into it, but it's hard when you are used to working out pretty hard. I ran 2 miles 3x this week and did a little light ab work and some leg exercises. I am still up 7 pounds on my prepregnancy weight, but what bothers me more is the flabby belly. Hoping some more running and real ab work now that I am healed will help.
I gained 23lbs and I'm down 25ish. My goal is to get back down to what I was before I got pregnant with my first, which would be 20 more lbs.
My weight loss stalled quite a bit because I wasn't eating enough. I am bfing and also wear a Fitbit (I have the HR one) so I changed my approach and started eating back all the calories my Fitbit says I burn, since it obviously doesn't account for bfing, and I've finally got the scale to budge a bit.
So maybe something to try if your weight loss is stalling!
Hi everyone, I just saw this thread. I was around 123 lbs pre-pregnancy, and I'm at 144 lbs right now. I just this week started being serious about doing something. We can't afford a gym membership right now and it's too cold to run or anything outside, so I downloaded My Fitness Pal (so if anyone is on there and wants to be friends.....) and started doing workouts on that Sworkit App. It's not perfect, but it's a start.
I just now saw this thread also! I've been working out like crazy the last 2 weeks and have about 20# to go. I've been working out with another group of moms and their big into Purium. It's an organic weight management food program. I haven't done the cleans yet but I want to. The products are like pre workout shakes and protein. All natural, even kids can drink them. Anyways! I also am using my fitness pal and really tracking what I eat and realized I need to completely change my eating habits to get my weight back down. I did my first time ever snack "food prepping" yesterday
apples grapes avocados carrots cucumber blueberries
also check out the page cleanfoodcrush on Facebook. They have a lot of healthy meal ideas!

Check out Purium . It's all natural. I haven't tried the cleanse yet but I've tasted the shakes and their pretty good especially the apple berry
@ammnam14 what protein does your husband use? I like gold standard whey. I get chocolate mint, but their regular chocolate is good. There really isn't a special protein needed by women. I would just find a brand and flavor you like.
Oh and I'm mostly just getting back to regular walks and some weights. I gained 50 lbs while pregnant and I'm 17 away from pre-pregnancy. I'm taking my time with it and focusing on making smart choices and eating enough to fuel breastfeeding.

Does anyone know if diastasis recti is something your doctor would've caught or something obvious you would've noticed/felt? I tried self exam but my stomach is way too soft, I can't tell. I feel like I have zero ab muscles and want to start working them out.

He uses true mass. I hate that flavors are so limited lol.

I know what you mean. The only way I can drink any flavor other than mint chocolate is in a smoothie. Also, I don't know if you're drinking it with water, but milk or almond milk makes a world of difference. So did blender bottles.

I mix it with fruit and coconut water, it makes the taste tolerable!
@preggoandglowing My midwife checked mine at my 4 and 8 weeks post-op appointments (I had a c section). But I can check it myself too. You lay on your back and put your chin to your chest and contract your abs as if you were going to do a crunch. Mine was 5 finger widths apart at my belly button so it was pretty obvious. Now it is about 1-2. It can also happen anywhere between your ribs and your pubic bone depending on how you carry your babies. My midwife told me that it often happens in twin pregnancy and really big babies (mine was 10.5 pounds).
There are pretty good resources online for diastasis recti too, and you can find safe tummy exercises if you want to work on it. Some exercises, like sit-ups, will actually make it worse, so it's worth finding out if you have a problem before you start working out.
So I started weight watchers last week because going back to work is hard enough with baby... But going back in maternity pants made me sad. And then I gained 4 pounds in 3 weeks. So I started WW last week... Abu have lost 4.4 pounds!! Hooray!

I am also doing BBG! I started pre training and did two weeks then I slacked off but I just finished week two of the regular guide and have also started c25k in between! Where are you at? It is hard!
I am am also doing weight watchers but through an app called ProTracker Plus. It's amazing and since starting it I have lost 7lb!! It's helpful to ensure you aren't eating too much even if you're healthy eating, and you can add in that you're breast feeding if needed (EBF, maintenance, or occasional). I highly recommend! It's $4 and well worth it IMO!
Also, I second the Gold Standard protein powder in a shaker cup. It's the only powder that I have found that will completely dissolve after a few shakes and actually doesn't taste bad. I get PB chocolate but husband has caramel something and I believe they may have a cinnamon roll. We get ours from Harps (idk if those are just local but it's a grocery store) but I know academy sells it too.
I fianlly got clearance at 8 weeks after my c section and healing up my diastasis recti to resume exercise. So I have been running and working out for almost 4 weeks and nothing is happening. I feel better because I am running, but my belly is still floppy, I still have muffin top in all my pants, and I am still up 7 pounds on my pre-pregnancy weight.
My plan is to start a more comprehensive, whole body type plan next week. I can't decide between T25 and p90x3. Both are half an hour a day, which is exactly how much time I feel I can give to working out daily with the baby and working full time. Anyone have any experience with either of these?

I'll start week 4 on Monday! DH has weights in the garage so I do a warm up, weights, BBG, then pick a workout from Pinterest lol! That darn guide is killer. I ended up getting fitmiss ignite pre workout and love it. I'm still using DHs protein because we have so much of it but once I run out I think I'll try the gold standard!
I am currently on day 8 of my Purium cleanse and I've lost 7lbs!. may have increased my breast milk supply too. Even after I'm done cleansing I'll have about 15# to go before I'm back to pre pregnancy weight. But I'm going to be happy to get back to really pushing myself hard working out and eating the right foods. Everything is calling my name now though... Pizza, Carl's Jr., McDonald's. Cleaning just makes you thing of all the foods you can't eat even if you don't ever eat them!
