The Weight Loss/Eat Better/Wellness Thread!

I sit here, having just eaten an entire box of Kraft Mac and cheese, and think "I should probably get back on track with eating right." I just read the body after baby thread and realized there are a lot of us unhappy with our new bodies or would like to get back/get in shape. Anyone interested in posting on a weight loss thread? We could keep each other on track and talk about food goals, weight loss, post weekly pictures (if you dare) and stuff like that. I always pick a start date a little ways out so I have time to get organized, get crap out of the house and get good food into the house. I was thinking Feb 15th... After Valentine's Day (so we can get one last good dinner out). It's a Monday too... You have to start on a Monday;) We could do weigh in Wednesday's! I always do better when I'm dieting with someone and think this board could really help us out. It doesn't have to be about the numbers either... Some people just want to get more toned or eat better and they're welcome to post here too! It's about accountability. Anyone interested?

Re: The Weight Loss/Eat Better/Wellness Thread!

  • I'm in! I just started on Tuesday, not a Monday I know lol but I stepped on the scale and it had gone up in a week so I decided it was time to get real. I started logging all my food into my fitness pal and feel really motivated again! :)
  • Loading the player...
  • Me and DH are starting WW in March and then 21day fix 3 months after that.
  • I officially started on Tuesday. I step on the scale this morning again ( I normally weigh my self every other week) and was already super happy with the results. I have always lost weight super fast so I don't think it will take me long to get comfortable again :)
  • I'm in! I've started some workout videos and signed up for a race, but it's not until July. This is a great idea.
  • I'm totally down. Lent starts soon too and I'm giving up alcoholic beverages during the week so I'm hoping they'll help with the weight loss as well. I'll need support for that too lol.

You can finally drink again and you're giving it up?! Girl you're crazy, LOL!!!;) But really, we got your back
  • I'm in! I've had a tough time trying to get it together...

I really liked the 21 day fix! I'm thinking about starting the workout videos again.
  • Does anyone have recommendations for pre workout/protein for women? DH drinks stuff that is basically like crack. Lol I don't want his advice on it.
  • I'm in! I just started a 30 day challenge on Monday!
  • I'm in, just got cleared to work out at my 6 wk check yesterday, anyone have links to online workouts incorporating baby? Hes a good 12 lbs, ideal for squats!

I really wouldn't recommend a pre workout. They're usually some kind of chemical caffeine craziness. Whey protein or a vegan protein are both great options. We use gold standard whey, but sun warrior is a nice vegan alternative. You can get good deals on bodybuilding.com. Also, quest nutrition has some excellent protein bars filled with fiber and protein.
  • Oh and I'm in! I have a friend that added me to a private group on Facebook for eating and working out.
  • I'm definitely in. Been cutting back on junk food, soda & coffee this whole week. Lost 5 lbs already :) plus that stuff isn't good for LO!
  • For those of you who are nursing, are you planning on getting back to your pre-pregnancy weight? I'm concerned about losing my milk. But I definitely need to get back into shape.
  • Oh I am in too! I am 4 weeks post c-section, and was told today at the doctor that I can't work out until I correct my diastasis recti. I have lost 35 of the 45 pounds I gained while pregnant by breastfeeding and walking, but ideally I would like to lose another 20. And I  signed up for my favorite race, the Maine Marathon, as motivation to get back in shape. It's not until October so I have plenty of time :)
  • For me it's about making healthy choices and getting moving again - that might mean keeping a few extra pounds to maintain supply but I'll just be happy to be healthy again @MomofEv+1

I think it's more important to drink a ton of water. With my first, I never had supply issues and got to my pre pregnancy weight by 14 weeks (40lbs). But I chugged water like it was my job. Obviously everyone is different but it worked for me.
  • My biggest struggle is food right now. I need to make sure that I eat 300-400 calories every couple hours or I get into "eat all the food" mode and lose all self control. It's tough with a toddler and a newborn though! Planning on getting lots of easily accessible snacks at the grocery store tomorrow!
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I nursed my first for 9 months. Definitely had supply issues for the last few. I lost all but 5 lbs but I think it had more to do with working/pumping. This time I've lost all but the last 5 really quickly. That doesn't mean I'm back in shape though so I'd like to get more fit without losing more weight. Things aren't where they're supposed to be if you know what I'm saying. ;)
  • I am so in! I've finally gotten back into the gym a couple times thanks to SO and I'm very motivated to get back into shape. I'm already back at my pre pregnancy weight at almost 8 weeks postpartum, but my stomach isn't flat and toned like it used to be. That's my goal, especially since my diastasis recti is practically fully healed.
  • I'm in too! I've got 15 more pounds to go plus another 5-7ish to get back to my pre-wedding weight. This is my second week exercising & eating healthy..er lol!

Question about what is mentioned above. Confused, do you need a few extra pounds for milk supply?
  • I'm in too. I'm basically back to pre pregnancy weight (or at least what I was at my first appt) but I could stand to lose at least 40 pounds-some of that is leftover baby weight from the baby before this one. I'd like to attempt a one mile run in July. Once it starts warming up a little I should be able to get out and get ready for it.
  • Count me in! I have about 60 pounds to get rid of, despite the fact that I am already down to pre pregnancy weight. Just went back to my personal trainer, 8 weeks PP and EBF. My doctor says you can lose weight while BF but that you need to go slower, so no more than 1lb per week. Let's do this!
  • Me! I'm already down to pre pregnancy weight but still need to lose about 40 pounds. I go back to work Monday, worried about letting snacking get out of hand if I have to eat to keep myself awake while working.

I'd be in too!!! I gained 45 and am down 25 of that at six weeks pp.  I find it hard to work out because I'm still trying to nap when baby boy naps but we're doing some walking when it isn't toooo cold. Want to start doing more intense cardio again though! BF might help me loose some of it if I stop eating all the junk food in our cupboards...
  • I'm totally in. My husband is doing hi health kick thing but he loses weight easily and its annoying. He's more prone to tease me about my,rolls than anything (not in a serious criticism way...but still unwanted at this juncture)

I started working last Monday and go to the gym beforehand. I'm so out of shape its disgusting. For kicks I put my old weights on the machine and almost killed myself. I have 20 pounds to prepreg weight. I wanna lose extra.

I also work in a bakery so God knows how I'll keep a donut out of my mouth long enough to lose the weight lol
  • How exciting that so many people are ready to be accountable together. I'm starting Monday on a 6 week fitness challenge with some friends in Facebook who are at various postpartum stages. We have a gym in our garage, so I will be getting back to weights and will be doing some light cardio workouts from Jessica Smith TV on YouTube.

I really just want to get to a place where I can jog around the yard with my dogs without wanting to die.

What are your work out plans? What is one fitness goal that you have?
  • I'm in too! :) I gained 36 while pregnant and have 13 to go at 4 weeks pp, but I was 7ish lbs over my ideal weight, so I'm calling it an even 20 until I feel like my "best self". I started back to Pure Barre this past week and already feel a little stronger. Eating better...is taking a little longer to get on track! I crave sugar and give into it way too much. Whenever I wanted to lose weight before, I would follow a low carb diet. Say what you will (and I'm sure people will!) but it worked for me. Not sure what to do now though because it seems like being restrictive is not the way to go if you're BF. Although, it's a high caloric diet- I wonder if that would be ok? Maybe I'll ask my OB at 6 week checkin.

Also to co-sign on a PP's question - will losing weight mess with supply? I've never heard this!
  • I'm going all out... I'm back to my PP weight (I only gained 15lbs), but I want to lose about 80 more pounds! A safe weight loss is 2 pounds per week and the app I have says I can hit my goal on Nov 10th. I want to start TTC that month, when DD turns 1, so that's a great incentive! I had GD and PIH with DD (induced a week early due to protein in urine and high BP) and would really like to avoid that this time... I know losing weight will help that. We just moved into an apartment with a gym, so I'm going to work out there and try to cut out a lot of bad carbs and add lots of veggies and lean meat to my diet. DH lost about 70 pounds last year but has put most of it back on. I know he wants to get back at it so I know I have his support and he will probably start eating better if I do too.
  • Got out in -7 Celsius and pushed the stroller through the snow (although most roads were kind of plowed) and it was a pretty good workout! Going to try to do some core exercises this afternoon while baby boy sleeps.
  • Anyone like me and needing to start over? I'm going to go all in starting this Monday,  though I've been walking and such.

I'm going to do a 30 day program,  but I'm going to do yoga on the abs-only days, because for some reason I was really uncomfortable when I tried an abs video, so I'll ease back into it. I need to make myself do this during one of DD's early naps!

Also going to go for walks as long as the weather allows, and watch my posture when I wear her around the house.

Our diet is fine bc of DH's running,  but I need to watch my water intake.   Ok, here we go! I wrote it, so now I have to do it.

  • Given the nasty weather we are having (blizzards), I can't really drive or walk outside, so doing lunges with baby is the only thing I'm doing now.  I'm also super concerned about restricting diet as I'm BFing, so not quite sure what to do about diet besides cutting sugar. I'm down 25lbs and had gained 30 during pregnancy, but I want to lose 25 more. I would love to hear how to change diet without impacting supply.
  • Anyone doing whole 30??
  • How is everyone doing on their weight loss/healthier you journey??

I am a week and a half away from the end of my 30 day challenge and I am feeling good! I finally fit back into my pre pregnancy jeans (comfortably). I am 7 pounds away from my pre pregnancy weight, and 10 pounds away from my goal weight.

The first week or so I dreaded doing my work outs. But now I look forward to them everyday!
There certainly are days where I am just to exhausted from taking care of the babe to do them! But so far I am feeling so much better.

  • I managed an 18 min workout on the elliptical before baby boy woke up screaming from his nap. Was aiming for 30 but I'll take what I can get.
Still having trouble eating healthier when sometimes all I can do is grab something like granola bar etc with screaming baby waiting to get on the boob...
  • I had surgery last Monday so no running, sit ups, push ups, or lifting more than 20 for 6 more weeks. Sigh. I did cut out a lot of junk from my diet though so that's a start!
  • Okay... So I tried doing research on whole30 online but couldn't really find anything... Can someone that does it tell me what it's all about. Maybe some of the recipies?? I started doing really well then fell off the wagon (being a single mom is hard somedays lol)
please and thank you :) hope everyone has an awesome weekend !!
