1st Trimester

What's up with dumb doctors and nurses???

maybe it's hormones.
maybe it's because I'm a super private person and hate doctors because they pry and ask tmi.

yesterday a PA in my Drs office asked me "were you practicing birth control?"  And I figured this was something new, because they have never asked me this before but, I thought, well, I could see where if you HAD been on something like the pill it could cause problems in early pregnancy.  So I said "no"
and then she says "after 5 kids why not?"
oh let me count the ways...
so I told her, one, I don't think pumping ones body of chemicals and false hormones is healthy (no offense to those who have practiced birth control in the past) two, because we wanted another baby, and normally if you are TTC you don't take birth control (just my opinion, pregnancy seems to be more likely when your not taking anything to prevent it!)
and finally because birth control causes weight gain.
and then she said...
"now you'll be fat because of a baby."

needless to say, Eric finally stood up and took care of her for me.   This lady should not work in a doctors office.  It's not like I'm a 15 year old pregnant girl, I don't need a lecture, I'm 34 and I'm pretty sure I'm well enough into adulthood to make my own choices.
Whats up with doctors these days?!  Keep your opinions to yourselves! Think they forget that we are still the customer.  We do pay for their services.  Eric was disgusted with her and told her "I own my own construction company, I don't butt into my clients lives like that and it's really none of your damn business!"  Then he reported her to the offices human resources lady (he built her house about 6 years ago, this was back when we were expecting baby #3 and had a home birth!)

  • I would report her to the board. She should have never put her 2 cents in.

  • My doctor asked me when I went for my first prenatal visit if I was planning to keep the baby, I found the question odd but maybe they ask every mother the same thing. But why would I seek prenatal care if my intention is to abort? I don't know.

The receptionist at my GYN-NP (not OB) made a similar statement. There isn't an OB in the practice that I go to for my normal GYN visits so when I got my BFP, I had to call my NP to confirm/get a referral for the OB. When I called to make the appt I said something like "Hi, I'm a patient of XXX and I just found out this morning that I'm pregnant. I'm calling to schedule an appt." Her response was "Do you want to be pregnant?" I was so confused. It didn't upset me but I was kind of like, not really your concern lady, just schedule my appt.

OP, I'm sorry you had to experience that. I would definitely make sure the complaint is heard and I would also make sure to never have to be seen by her again.

  • my mind is boggled by these stories. I also give you guys credit for not ripping someone's head off :)
  • It was hard to not do, like I said, luckily DH stepped into that one ;)
  • I've worked in healthcare for 9 years and have never experienced anything close to this.

  • Well, truthfully, doctors should be respectful when a woman chooses to not destroy her body with fake drugs and hormones.  Not ask her why.  Next time a doctor asks me that I'm going to ask why the hell they don't mind their own dang business...
  • That's an opinion.  Yours.

both my opinion and intuition tell me, there's nothing healthy about blocking your body's natural processes with chemicals and unnatural hormones.  Jmo...

ill stick to my belief of use it or loose it ☺️
  • Omg that is soooooo mean. Who cares if you have one or ten, it's not her business and furthermore her rude personal opinion is unprofessional and rude. My mom had five kids and grandma had 8 in her younger day. I would report her. I had a rude nurse comment once with my first pregnancy about how bad it is father misses appointments and I told her he's at war serving our country......she acted like he was some dead beat.

It's been two hours and none of us Nov mamas have commented on that post...I'm kind of proud of us haha
If we don't entertain the crazy or AW posts, maybe they will go away...probably wishful thinking
