Junk Food Thread

Someone on the Random Thoughts theead suggested we do a Junk food thread. I was thinking about this yesterday when I was treating myself to a Fruit Tart and a cup of Iced Green Mint tea (admittedly, that's not junk food but it was a jice compliment to the shortbread, custard and berries) and decided to start a thread!

I love to bake and cook and DH and I also enjoy snacking so, even though I eat healthy most of the time, I LOVE junk! So here is a place where we can post recipes or pics of delicious indulgent treats or even support each other to find healthy yet tasty alternatives!

I'll start! DH and I invest in Nature Box because they have a wide varitey of healthy snacks. Also, last night a friend and I went out to a fancy dinner and I enjoyed some duck confiet pasta which is DEFINITELY junky!

Homemade chocolate chip cookies. I've been craving them for weeks. Yesterday I finally gave in and baked a batch. I may or may not have eaten about 5 of them before they even had a chance to cool...

Okay, here's a healthy snack! The Ovia app posted a recipe today and I forgot how much I LOVE roasted chick peas. All you need is a can of chick peas. Rinse, drain, and dry off with a paper towel, toss with olive oil and any one of a number of different spice combinations, and roast in the oven stirring once or twice. They're awesome eaten alone or tossed into salads.

    Here's a starter recipe: https://www.chowhound.com/recipes/spicy-oven-roasted-chickpeas-30368

I've done this cumin/chili powder combo before and it's yummy

The one that was on Ovia today uses chipotle and garlic powder and then suggests squeezing fresh lime juice onto them before serving: https://www.ovuline.com/guide/2009/pregnancy-recipe-roasted-chipotle-and-lime-chickpeas?mode=3

Here's garlic and parmesan, which sounds yummy: https://www.cleaneatingmag.com/recipes/classics-made-clean/garlic-parmesan-roasted-chickpeas/

I HAD TO stop before work to get a chocolate bar with toffee and some peanut butter filled pretzels. This thread came at the right time. I'm definitely having a junk food week.

I love how without fail that every pregnant board ends up with a junk food thread! This is bad but I bought a package of all beef organic hot dogs and they are sooooo good. Oh me oh my...with some tatertots- perfection!

@mthoomom I only ate 1, but it was a struggle between that and Boston Cream Pie. I ate 2 pouches of dried mangoes at lunch which aren't technically junk food but now I have ALL THE GAS!

Trader Joe's fruit jellies. I had restraint yesterday, but today--all bets are off!

@Sporty1216 what I'm really impressed by is that you posted this first thing in the morning. Ice cream all day!!! Yum yum

Oh, I should have had a bowl right then! I just took LO to the zoo and got a smoothie as soon as he conked out in the car, so that's a good second best. There WILL be ice cream tonight!

So this is weird... On the way home yesterday, I stopped at a Chinese restaurant for some takeout. There was a 20 minute wait, so I went to the grocery store next door to pick out a dessert to kill time. After looking through the entire bakery section AND the candy aisle, nothing appealed to me and I left empty-handed. The Publix employees probably think I'm crazy. Who stares at desserts for 20 minutes and leaves?

I just got some Dang's coconut chips in a box from Amazon... they are pretty durn tasty. Also, been on a mac and cheese kick the last couple of days. I am sampling several different kinds to find the best one. So far it's Annie's all the way. Even their gluten free variety which I bought accidentally, is delicious!

Oh, man. Mac n cheese. Yes! If you have a trader Joe's nearby, try their hatch chili Mac n cheese from the freezer section. You bake it in the oven and it is AMAZING!

@Sporty1216 don't threathen me with a good time

Right now I am enjoying Strawberry Greek Yogurt pretzels from Nature Box.

Tonight's Mac n Cheese was Back to Nature made with plain greek yogurt instead of butter and cheese. Also some chopped spinach and broccoli mixed in. The vegetables mean it's healthy!

As some sort of cruel joke I had a mandatory training session scheduled for 7am this morning. This required me to be up at 5am and I didn't have time for breakfast. Naturally, the only option was to go to Dunkin Donuts and get myself not one, but two, french crullers. I'm not actually a big donut fan, with this exception. I probably only eat them two or three time per year but they're soooooo delicious!

I am totally addicted to sparkling lemonade. After drinking way too much of it over the weekend, I'm watering it down, but still. I gotta find a new obsession with less sugar. :)
