Re: Junk Food Thread

  • Oh man, I am going to have to stay away from this thread!  :D I've only known I'm pregnant for a week and I'm already taking too many liberties with my normally quite healthy nutrition... Well except for my never ending sweet tooth.  Sparkling lemonade sounds delicious @Sporty1216.  I bought some of the Target brand of sparkling juice and water today- a generic Izze- mango peach yum!

  • Oh and over the weekend I discovered Edible Arrangements has smoothies! I got strawberry pineapple kale- it was so good I went back the next day to get another.  And come on, anything with kale in it can't be too unhealthy, right?!  ;)

  • I try to avoid this thread! Swedish fish and ALL things gummy are my crack! In college we lived near wegmans (which they've since expanded in the northeast), the store is open 24/7 and has a bulk candy section, lethal. Swedish fish by the pounds! And I so innocently thought at my young age that because there was no fat, I could eat them by the lb!

  • My gummy fruity "candy" these days are gummy prenatal vitamins. I think if I didn't have such delicious vitamins I'd forget to take them. Speaking of... I forgot them this morning. Something to look forward to when I get home :)

  • So speaking of gummies, a FB friend posted a recipe for gummy strawberry slices which I am trying out today on a SURPRISE DAY OFF (my only 2 Thursday clients cancelled)! The recipe says to bake the strawberries sliced in 1/3s or 1/4s at 210 degrees for 3 hours. So far I have 1.75 hours left and I will let you all know how they turn out.

In the meantime, I found this recipe: http://undressedskeleton.tumblr.com/post/54098060490 which is slightly different. I will try this one next.

Regardless, this sounds fairly simple and is hopefully delicious.
  • Ooh. Your timer must be about to go off soon! Can't wait to hear the report! I've been eating my kid's fruit snacks. Better than more bags of gummy bears, but not as good as if I was eating straight up strawberries....

    lillebowski23
  • Hmmm... so they were alright. Most of them were soft, but not chewy. The others were a little chewy but more crunchy. I am not sure if this is due to the pieces being different sizes or the fact that I used parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Or maybe it was the time and temperature. At any rate, I will try the other recipe soon and see what happens. Oh yeah, and they tasted really good, I just wished the texture was better.
