When's your first appointment?

Re: When's your first appointment?

  • Went in twice last week to confirm and check that hormone levels were rising appropriately - first appointment is 3/18! I'll be just over 7 weeks.

  • Had my first blood draw today. Probably will have another by Friday to see if numbers are going up as they should. Since I got pregnant right after my loss, without a period, they are not sure how to date it just yet. Based on when I got EWCM and positive OPKs, I think I'm at 4-5 weeks. Hoping to get an US by the end of March.  Crossing my fingers that my hcg is high and gets higher.

  • March 21. I'll be 7+2 by O, 7+5 by LMP. That's just past how far I made last time, so I cannot wait for the next three weeks to go by. Things are compounded by the fact that my MIL, who does not know about either pregnancy, will be visiting over those two weeks. Cue me turning into a ball of stress.
  • I am supposed to have a six-week ultrasound with the IVF clinic the week of March 16. If all goes well they will transfer me to a regular OB at that point.

There probably won't be much to it. They'll likely try to estimate the due date, take your vitals and weight, maybe pee in a cup, and inform of you about the 1st tri bloodwork and u/s. Then you'll have a chance to discuss questions/concerns.

  • My first appointment is April 6th, lab work on the 4th. Ugh seems so far away! I'll be 9 weeks at that point. Can't wait to see baby for the first time on the screen  :)

    March 24th! I'll be 8 weeks.
  • Just called and got scheduled for April 1st which is 8wks, 1 day according to my O date.  They are going off the 1st day of my LMP though which would put me at 7w,3d.  I'll continue to go off my O date until the appt and then discuss it with them.  I don't believe I'll be getting a dating US at this appt. as last time I didn't get one until 9 weeks.  It feels like forever away, especially since last time I was seen at 6 weeks and was hoping for the same this time <sigh>

  • Had mine today (at 5 weeks by LMP / 5w2d by O). No heartbeat yet, but things are looking good so far (lining, cervix, sac, etc.). Had blood taken. I'll go back on 3/24.

  • Just scheduled for March 24 - I'll be 6 weeks + 3 days! I have an email in to my PCP (my appt is with a new clinic, OB/GYN heavy) to see if they want me to confirm it.... but I'm assuming now since I just scheduled that it's not needed. My insurance doesn't require a referral - I checked this morning - so now I am wishing to take that email to my PCP back. Whoops. Excitement overload :)

  • I won't have my first until April 5th :( I had to schedule late, because I'm a teacher and it's incredibly hard to schedule appointments around state assessments. Blah!

  • My first appointment is March 29. I'll be just about 8 weeks by then. It feels so far away! Glad I have you ladies around for any questions/concerns!

  • First u/s is scheduled with my RE for March 14, 6w+3. Only one week until we see our bambino!! They will schedule another for 2 weeks later. With my 1st 2 pregnancies my u/s were at 7w & 9w, but for some reason they scheduled me sooner this time. It sucks we have to see a specialist but I'm glad we get an early peek at our baby.

  • My first appointment was scheduled for March 30th (8 weeks, 1 day) but my OB called me over the weekend to say that he wants me to come in earlier. I had a history of a ruptured appendix followed by abscess formation in my abdomen and had two abdominal surgeries as a teenager which he said can lead to scar tissue and increase my risk of ectopic. He had me come in today for hcg and progesterone levels and then based on what the results are said that he would schedule me for an early ultrasound to ensure the baby is in the uterus. My fingers are crossed that my hcg and progesterone levels come back within normal limits and that i'm far enough along when he does the ultrasound that I can see a heart beat if the embryo is in the uterus. Id hate to have to wait another 2 weeks to ensure there is a heart beat after this initial ultrasound. Good luck to you all on your first appointments!!
  • @bburba good luck! I had a ruptured appendix and abscess formation as well when I was younger...went through 2 surgeries with it as well. I was worried about my tubes being blocked the whole time we were ttc. My RE was concerned about it so he had be go through an HSG test to see if there were scarring or blockages in my tubes...it came back completely clear! Try not to worry yourself to death :)

  • I go in on March 16.  I feel like that's really early- I would be about 5.5 weeks but truly just under a month if I'm determining by when I ovulated.  I think last time I went in at 8 or 10 weeks.

  • Thanks @ShallowSeas ! I was scheduled to have an HSG this month and ended up pregnant instead. My OB said based on when I had spotting this cycle and that I am not having any more bleeding since, it sounds like it should be okay but he just wants to check to be sure. I truly never heard to having blocked tubes from abdominal infection/surgery so it just caught me off guard when he started the work up last month. I'm happy to know I'm not alone! Good Luck to you too! My EDD is the same date as you!

  • You guys are getting ultrasounds so early. I'm jealous!
I had my first last week - just to get a requisition for blood work.
Second is on March 21 - first real apt
my ultrasound isn't until June 1 at 18 weeks!!
  • Ultrasound on the 16th because my first pregnancy was ectopic. Every time I think about it my stomach knots up with the worries. I have hip pain occasionally (probably caused by scar tissue from my laparoscopy to resolve the ectopic) and every time it hurts I freak out worrying that this one is ectopic too.

  • My first u/s with the RE is March 25 right at 7 weeks. She originally offered up March 18 at 6 weeks, but said it could be just a little early to hear the heartbeat. I can't take the anxiety of the unknown (already went through that with hCG betas coming in low initially), so I'll just wait an extra week so she can hear it for sure! Excited about  hearing the heartbeat, but trying to take this one day at a time.

  • Going in around 8 weeks to confirm with ultrasound, then a visit to establish care with an OB at 10 weeks. I don't mind the wait--I'm not sick, after all, and there's no risk factors :)

We are really excited to work with an independent midwife for our prenatal care and birth (all in the comfort of our own home, how cool is that), so these doc visits are really just about establishing backup and a medical record. We'll go there for the anatomy scan too of course :)

Please understand that most of us who are getting ultrasounds very early are getting them because we have histories of loss, fertility troubles which increase our risks of complications, or have experienced difficulties with our current pregnancies. This is not something to be jealous of. Not having a ton of scans is a good thing.

I know it seems like a bit of a playful comment, but I can absolutely guarantee you that I would gladly trade all my early ultrasounds for a low-risk pregnancy that hadn't been preceded by a ton of losses.

  • @bburba @ShallowSeasI was also going to have another HSG this month! I had an HSG a few years ago as part of our initial fertility workup, and it wasn't great but I had no major problems. Well this cycle during my monitoring for my IUI, my doctor saw that my left tube was blocked and full of fluid. So he said that if this IUI didn't work, I would have another HSG, possibly remove the tube, and we would move straight to IVF. But then we got a positive blood test! He said that it was likely blocked due to scarring from my c-section.

Woah sorry I didn't mean it like that. I just think 18 weeks is really late in pregnancy for first u/s or hear the heart beat. I expected to be able to have some sign that things are progressing properly before the 4 months mark. I apologize for offending.

I don't know if this is necessarily true. I have a perfectly fine history and get U/S up the ying yang. It totally depends on your dr and insurance.  Where I live it's normal to get a verification, NT (I think that's what it is), anatomy scan, and then a growth scan.

  • My GP confirmed my pregnancy this morning via blood tests. I have my first OB appt at 8 weeks. They definitely wanted to wait to do an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat. It's an eternity to wait!
  • First appt is at exactly 8 weeks: April 7th. It's soooo far away!!

  • MIne's March 15th - if my dating is right (estimating ovulation) that's 6+2. I called a couple different OB offices, and that seems pretty normal here.

My first pregnancy was planned as a home birth, and I had a 19 week scan, then a 37ish as part of a an ECV.
  • March 23rd with the nurse for labs and medical history, then a week later with the midwife for my first official visit! Feels so far away, but at least I have plenty to keep me busy in the meantime with work, a wedding, and possibly going back home for a funeral next week

  • My beta came back 2600 on Monday so they said they should be able to see something on ultrasound later this week. My first glimpse will be tomorrow to rule out ectopic. I'm really hoping to see a heart beat too but I'll only be 5w3
  • I have an appointment with a nurse this Friday (3/11), which they said was just an appointment that will just be paperwork stuff, not sure what that means, but my first appointment with my doctor will be April 5th, and I will be around 9 weeks at the time.
  • My first appt is schedule for April 5th, one day shy of 8 weeks. This appt is for an ultrasound and Bloodwork and I will go back a week later for the first appt with the midwife.
