Official Labor Watch Thread

*** Taken from N15 and J16 ***

Did your water break? Lose your mucus plug? Sitting in L&D? Are you being induced and worried? C-section? VBAC? Have a question about L&D? Or maybe you just want to tell us what's going on. Cool.

***
Hey ladies, I figured we could maybe use this thread to post whether we have started labor or contractions or if we are heading to L&D instead of flooding the board with seperate threads. Some of you ladies already approached 36 weeks, but hopefully the tiny humans will keep cooking for a little longer.

So if you have any questions or thoughts, fire away!

My update: Baby Wyatt is 5lbs and has dropped. Still 1cm dilated but 80% effaced so I will have to remain laying to avoid him sitting so low. Got to make it to 36 wks (3 more to go!)

Do you mean 3.3cm? Because a 33cm cervix would be terrifyingly long.

    I hope all is ok!
    Oops yeah probably 3.3cm! :)
  • Waiting for discharge papers ,now. Contractions were 5 minutes apart for a while last night and had a bleed due to placenta previa. Home and bedrest, I go!
  • Headed to the hospital, again, this time for "8 hour observation" due to high BP. Was in 7 days ago for the same thing and they were prepping to deliver that night (32w6d) they finally let me go home but are making me go back now (33w6d) hopefully no baby for another few weeks, although they are ready for her... ( I'm glad they are.... ) wish me luck!
Update: my 8 hour stay has turned into staying until delivery. I've been diagnosed with PreE and even though I'm stable they're anticipating me deteriorating..... Super fun. Kudos to the ladies that have been on bedrest or in the hospital already, I feel like an animal housed here...

Sorry about the Pre-E diagnosis. Sending good thoughts!!
  • Holy heck! Bed rest... hospital bed rest! At least we are close ladies!! Good luck!
  • @SarahAnne15917 Yikes. Best of luck to you!
  • I'm 36 weeks today and had an ultrasound this morning to measure and see if he was in position. He is weighing in at 6lbs 5oz, so my doctor is ready for the baby whenever he decides to show up. I, however, am not. We're assembling the crib tomorrow and still have to buy a carseat... My doctor examined me and said that I have at least a week before labor from the feel of it, so at least I know I've got one week to get everything done. I'll never understand how easily they can guess that, but I'm thankful I don't have to freak out yet.
  • @SarahAnne15917 best of luck!  At least you're in good care hun!

They can't guess that. At all. They can go by statistics that say you have a super slim chance of going into labor during week 36, so it makes it pretty easy to guess that you won't have a baby within the week, but cervical checks mean, quite literally, nothing.

    3 miscarriages - 1 DS (6) - 1 DD (3)  - #3 due March 30!

Yep. I was told last time there was no way I was going to go into labor in the next two weeks with DD1, had her six days later. Baby comes when they damn well feel like it

  • @SarahAnne15917 did they tell you what to expect as far as being induced or waiting for baby? I had my appointment today and there was protein in my urine and bp was a little high. They sent me to l&d and kept checking protein, which stayed in the urine, and bp which went down to normal. But with everything else i have (chest pain, breathlessness, seeing floaters, headache, basically everything on pre-e symptoms list) they are having me do a 24 hour urine sample and go back monday. But i was basically told I more than likely have a mild case of pre-e and will be induced.

  • Well... It's a tad complicated. I have chronic HTN that is well controlled on meds (it was before I was pregnant anyhow) however the medication that works for me can't be taken while pregnant, so the one I've been on hasn't been working as well as they want it to. They've been chasing my pressures pretty much the entire time. It wasn't until last week that I had an alarmingly high pressure though, which is the first time they admitted me and were actually prepping me for delivery on that basis alone (admitted me, started me on a mag sulfate bolus/infusion to help avoid seizures) my pressure came down before that happened though thankfully as I was only 32-6. The craziest thing with that is that I am COMPLETELY asymptomatic. My kidney/protein levels are off in my bloodwork but I have no protein in my urine, no H/A or nausea, no difficulty breathing or anything like that. So they've diagnosed me with Super Imposed Pre Eclampsia (I'm still figuring out the difference, but truthfully I think it's just because I have pre existing hypertension...) Moral of the story though: the goal this time last week was to make it until 34 weeks, babies generally do better then. They did give me the steroid shot to help speed up her lung development though, which possibly could be something you could ask about if they're worried about your LO too! Now I'm completely stable with no changes in my labs and controlled BPs, they're pushing for 37 weeks. But they did say that ANY change in a negative direction will earn me an induction that minute. I hope this gives you a little insight, but even more I hope you don't have to worry about one little piece of this!!!!! Thinking about you girl!

Thank you! All my labs came back fine. It's just urine keeps testing positive so they are checking again Monday after the 24 hour test. I had to get the steroid shot for his lungs back at 23 weeks because of a partial placental abruption. But thankfully that clotted itself so I was able to go home. I don't think I can get another roumd of shots if something happens, but I will definitely be asking on monday when I see the doctor. My current goal is 37 weeks, so here's hoping!!!

I'm glad you're stable and hopefully everything continues well and you can make it too 37 weeks at least!

  • Went into L&D for 24 hour observation due to headache and high BP again. Doctor gave me the shot to mature the baby's lungs. As of right now, the doctor is willing to keep me here until baby comes

  • That seems to be the common thing these days... Here's to hoping that our LOs stay put for just a tad longer.. Even though it makes us miserable
  • @St0v3s hoping LO stays in a little longer and things go well for you!

I don't like this theme of high bp, testing, and possibly early babies. They need to stay in longer so they can be more healthy and not need nicu stay!!!

  • Update: my pressures went back up so they have started induction.... Looks like I'll be a March momma instead, but always an April momma at heart ;)
Omg! Keep us posted! And you're always going to be an A16 momma no matter when you give birth at this point :) Yayyyyy, a little Pisces baby!
  • I, too, am in the hospital after a very minor car accident on Monday. Things are very up in the air and it has been an emotional rollercoaster. At first, they thought that I was going into preterm labor but now they are saying it is a placental abruption (probably minor). The baby has been having periodic heart decelerations so they have kept me here for monitoring. I could go home tomorrow or weeks from now -- they really aren't sure and it is driving me nuts.
  • Keep us updated! Praying for you!!!!

Agreed. I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and had an ultrasound on Wednesday, baby measured 6lb 13oz. No one was alarmed.

  • Heading in to L&D after a night of trying to ignore contractions. They're wrapping around to my back now and I don't feel comfortable staying home. I'm only 34 weeks as of today so hopefully they can stop them!

Good luck - hopefully it's early enough to stop them. Keep us posted!
