What exactly does one do with this oil that makes it feel like your waters have broken? I'm scared but intrigued...

You poke a hole in one of the pills and shove it as close to your cervix as you possibly can. You want to try and put the hole towards your cervix. The oil then gets released, which can get... Messy.

I tried it with DS and didn't have any leakage. Apparently my body just drank the oil up.

I think I'll stick to the walking and using my yoga ball. I'm ok with leaving her in there for an extra week or two, but if I get desperate at least I love pineapple and spicy foods!

Yeah, some of the ways to induce labor are weird or gross.

  • If I get to the point where labour needs to be induced I'm booking myself a massage!!!
  • With LO arriving in less than 4 wks my biggest fear right now is the spinal. Does it hurt? What should I expect? I've had lower back injections before and boy did they hurt like hell. I was numbed from the surface (local only) but cried the whole time.

My BP has been creeping up a bit all weekend and is definitely high this AM. I had an appointment for an NST this morning anyway so I am on the way there now and we'll see how this goes, but they've always said if my BP went up they'd probably go ahead and induce...

Update--no baby today, my BP calmed down and baby looks fine so now we just hang out.

  • In regards to EPO, for those that know more about it (and I plan to ask my midwife on Wednesday at my appt). So I did buy it at the suggestion of my midwife. But I'm nervous to try it. We really REALLY do not want this baby to come before 4/1 (EDD 4/6). We have an Aflac policy that went into effect on July 1st, and they won't pay out until 9 months after policy effectiveness. That means if this baby comes before 4/1, we don't get the $1,500 for me being admitted to the hospital and the $250/day each day I'm in there (which, coincidentally, is the cost of my stay with my insurance, so basically I'm being paid to have this baby). From what I've read, EPO won't actually trigger labor to happen before it was going to happen anyway, just makes it easier by prepping the cervix more? I was thinking of taking the tablets orally for a week or so (as apparently this can be good to do starting at 34 weeks), and then when I'm just a few days from the first, start putting the capsule in?

I started it with DD around 35 weeks, started inserting it at 36. My cervix was soft, stretchy and favorable for my 39+1 induction but it definitely didn't make me go into labor. I've been less strict about using it this time but I've used a TON of it over the past week or so and even being dilated to at least a 3, maybe 4+, it still didn't make me go into labor. I'd say you're good to go either way you choose to use it, but I think asking your midwife her thoughts on it making you go before 4/1 is a good idea.

    3 miscarriages - 1 DS (6) - 1 DD (3)  - #3 due March 30!

  • @imrachellea I used it with DS and I've started using it again this time, it's not something that will make your body go into labor before it's ready but I would address your concerns at your appointment this week before using it.
  • Anyone else having sporadic Braxton hicks? I've been getting them since 9:30 last night. Jumping between 7 mins apart to 20 mins apart. Lasting about 15-20 seconds. Could it be a sign?

Unfortunately, those are too short and too irregular. The thing you're really looking for are really long contractions. Closer to 40-60 seconds long. Once you start noticing those, then I would pay more attention to how far adapt they are.

Which Aflac plan is that? I have Aflac but I'd have to check into which plan I have. I didn't even think about it paying anything for childbirth.

I have to drop the jug off at the hospital tomorrow and I will know the results the same day. So tomorrow I will know if induction is a sure thing.
OMG that's so fast!! I have to do mine on Sunday and drop it off Monday am. I assumed it would be Tuesday-Wednesday before I knew anything.
Yes. My hospital has an outpatient lab inside and they are pretty fast. The nurse told me that I would be receiving a phone call tomorrow afternoon or to call that evening since the same OB is on call for the whole weekend. With my previous tests at Quest it took 48 hrs to come back.
I dropped off my jug this morning and got some blood drawn. She said it could take up to a week for results unless there is a red flag. That seems like a long time.

  • @yodiggity I'm not 100% sure, but it isn't a specific maternity policy or anything. It either has to do with an "accident" or hospital admittance. DH took care of the details figuring it out, since he knew some people within our district who had used it for maternity. Basically, it covers someone being admitted to the hospital for specified "conditions" or "accidents", and then for each day that you're in the hospital for that specific reason up to 10 days it also pays an additional sum. It does specify that in order to qualify for this in regards to childbirth, the policy has to have been in effect for a minimum of 9 months since the birth. Hence my concern, since we started trying for a baby basically as soon as the policy was in effect...go figure.

I'll have to check mine out. I know I was already Pg when it went into effect so it may not apply. :disappointed:

  • @yodiggity It wouldn't hurt to look, but if its a newer policy and you were already pregnant, it's a "preexisting condition". It really pisses me off too, because this pregnancy is NOT a preexisting condition, since I was on my period July 1st when it came into effect and we got pregnant right after. It really isn't fair to not get paid if she comes a week or so early, but DH tells me that in the contract I signed, it specifically states a birth must happen 9 months exactly or more from effective date. I may or may not have suggested we lie about her birthday if she comes early...HA because I'm sure the hospital would be on board with that ;)

Yep. I'm not even timing mine yet because I don't think they pass as real contractions.
  • So I'm 37w6 and baby has seriously slowed down the last few days. I've never had to worry about him because he is a wiggle worm. Is this normal or should I be concerned (I am) and go in? I was pretty active this weekend so maybe that has something to do with it so I'm just going to relax today.

Lol thanks for the sound effects there.. but it regenerates at times I believe so I suppose the limit does not exist?  :#
I know it regenerates, but there should be a limit, right? For my own sanity, there should be a darn limit, because constantly losing huge chunks is just grossing me out and giving me anxiety... We decided to hold off on installing the car seat until after this weekend, since DH is helping his parents move on Saturday. I also haven't moved or finished the hospital bag.  :#

They tend to slow down the closer you get to labor, since they are seriously lacking space and are spending a lot of engergy on growing.

  • @cmjenkies I actually started panicking when I felt the pop because I thought my water broke, since that's how it's been described to me. With DS, they broke my water at the hospital, so I have no clue what my water breaking on its own is like.

I'm 37w5d and had an OB appointment today. I mentioned that his movements are a lot gentler now; no more violent kicks, just gentle rolls and wiggles. She told me the same thing as above, as they grow and run out of space the movements become gentler, although the quantity of movements is still the same - just different quality. She told me 6 movements or more in 2 hours is normal.

Seems like he's back up to moving lots this afternoon. I think he just likes to scare me. I miss the hard kicks, I think they were less painful than him sticking his giant butt out a good 3 inches and his feet out of my sides.

  • Had my 36 week check up today and the doctor seemed really surprised that I wasn't dilated at all. I mean it's only 36 weeks, doesn't seem too surprising to me? Then she started looking me over and said she may want to schedule a C-section because she doesn't think I'll be able to deliver vaginally due to my height/pettiness.

This is is news to me? Like you couldn't have said something before? Surely other tiny women birth babies no problem. I mean I have no aversion to a C-section but I kind of feel like this is a BS excuse to plan out the birth to be convenient for her.

Sounds like she's probably just doing what works for her. At the same hospital I was born at, my parents remember seeing this tiny, tiny, tiny woman give birth to a 10 lbs baby vaginally. I was under 7 lbs and a c-section. Everyone at the hospital thought it was hilarious.

I feel like she tried to scare me a bit by telling me the last patient she had who was my size (I'm only 4'11 and usually petite when not being fatty pregnant) had a 9lb baby vaginally and tore worse than any patient she has ever seen before and was in horrendous pain and had issues with her vagina after birth.

My reaction was just like pure terror.

We've been having issues scheduling normal checkups so I think she just has a bunch of patients all due around the same time and wants to schedule everything to avoid more scheduling conflicts.  :|
  • @WiseUsagi That's still incredibly unprofessional of her, to use fear mongering as a strategy to put that in your head. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a c-section birth, but to discuss it at 36 weeks for no legitimate medical reason is absurd.
Agree with all of the above. Something's not right if there is no medical necessity.
My sister is under 5 ft and just gave birth to her baby girl who was just over 7 pounds. She pushed for 3 hours and the dr told her the baby was having a hard time getting through her narrow pelvis because she's so petite. There was no medical concern however as baby was doing just fine and my sister wanted to continue pushing. She tore a normal amount, nothing scary, and baby was and is 100% fine and healthy.
