Re: Discuss Baby Names Here!! 2/22

  • @Trinirican3ondway You're right! Silas is a biblical name! We wanted to tie his initials to my husband's name (starts with R) and my name (Shannon) and have a biblical connection, so he's Ryan Silas.

  • DH and I decided when we found out we were having another girl that her name would be Kyra Kelley. (Kye for short). We both love the show street outlaws and since we wernt having the boy we were hoping for I decided to give her a name we both knew well to be the fastest street car racer in the US. Kinda cool but the name has grown on me ever since. DD1 is Kennedy Grace. And she loves her name
  • My SO and I are having a little girl. We originally came up with a boy name before finding out we were having a girl. My moms name was Melenthia and she passed away in 2014. We have decided to go with Kelseigh Melenthia
Never heard the name Melenthia before but it's awesome (and sweet to name her after your mom)
  • We have decided on the name Gwen. However have no middle name as of yet. We have a super long name so we wanted something fairly short. Our sons name is Isaac, so I think they got together as they are both fairly uncommon. His family has tried to talk us out of it and have us name her Scarlett. However DH does not like that name and I have found it has become so popular. All of my coworkers (all male) hate our name choice and I have gotten a lot of flack from her name but we love it.

i love reading all of the name choices! If we hadn't have chosen our name this is the perfect post to find a name! I love all of the love going around and support for name choices. I have considered keeping our name choice a secret from family and friends because of how opinionated everyone is. Unreal!
  • @shannonrnbsn If I ever have a boy I plan on using Silas. Love it!!!
  • DH refuses to discuss names until at least 32 weeks but likely not until 36 weeks! My list so far:
    Lillian Grace (my favorite!)
    Emma Charlotte (both popular though)
    Charlotte Elizabeth (very popular)
    Rosalie (need a MN)
    suggestions welcome!

Last name is short, common and starts with a J. Boys are Jackson Alexander and Garrett William
My goddaughter is named Rosalie Adair.

  • @Trinirican3ondway Tycho is pronounced like TY-ko. I think it's getting more common, but it always just makes me think of Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe as I haven't really heard of any other Tychos (other than a kid in my toddler's swim class).

@Goocran17 I am way on board with Liesl. Super cute.

To the ladies whose husbands love Harper (this seems to be a popular husband pick, haha), is it the Harper Lee connection? Maybe they'd like Nelle, Harper Lee's real first name which I think is totally awesome and underloved right now.
I'm not really sure what got DH on the Harper bandwagon. I know someone that had a baby just a few months after our first daughter was born and they named her Harper. I vaguely remember telling DH and he wasn't a fan of that name. But as soon as we started talking about girl names that was one of the first names he mentioned. He claims it's not as trendy as I say because he doesn't know anyone with that name. To that I say, "well how many babies do you actually know because it's #4 on the SSA website for our area??"

My husband saw it on a baby list and liked it. He really likes the more modern boyish names, he was really into Parker for a while too.

  • @alw12290 My friend just had a baby and named her Gwendolyn but is calling her Gwen, I think it's adorable and would use it for my own if she hadn't already used it! :)
  • Fletch or Fletcher is very cute but it reminds me of the 1985 Chevy Chase Movie, "Fletch".  I'm a little older and know if because of my 40 yr old DH.  It was a popular movie among the now 40+ set.  Anyway, lots of older folks might think about the movie and Chevy Chases character by that name, but maybe not the younger mamas.

    Image result for fletch
Lol. Oh this has totally crossed my mind but to me it means I can buy him a Chevy chase onesie with his name on it!
  • @RMR7779 oh really! That is exciting to hear because I do not know anyone with that name and half the people side eye us when we say what her name is lol my husband made a corny joke that her middle name will be dolyn. Dork!
  • Our baby boy's name is going to be Samuel Blake... Samuel is my late granddad's name and Blake is my husband's name ☺️ I'm going to call him Sam.
  • OK I brought this up on the random thread once but I think everyone assumed I was joking. Is it crazy to name my kid Zapp??
  • OK I brought this up on the random thread once but I think everyone assumed I was joking. Is it crazy to name my kid Zapp??
It's definitely different. I'd have to think about it for awhile and see if it grew on my. My initial reaction of it reminds me of a comic book. I picture a guy shooting a laser with the word Zapp!!
  • I love seeing all these names and different variations of names. Our boy name was Wyatt Lee (Lee is a family middle name for my husband)...but since it has been confirmed 3 times that we are having a girl her name is Alexandria Kaye. My husband's middle name is Alexander and mine is Kaye. I also really like girl names that can be boyish for a tomboy or more feminine for a lady as a grown-up. We agreed really quickly on a name by our dating ultrasound. We picked one boy name and one girl name just in case. Although I like Alex or Allie as a nickname and my husband is already calling her AK because he's obsessed wit initial nicknames and never could go by his because they sound pretty girly.
  • @ emtron500 give me more info on Zapp! Full name or short for something else? I think you gotta go with your gut either way. :)
  • Since DH and I aren't discussing names anymore I'm making my own list. What do you guys think about Drew for a girl? Would it be better to name her Andrea and call her Drew or just name her Drew? DH will probably shoot it down anyway but since he's not coming up with anything I think he's just going to have to pick something from my list. That's my current theory anyway.

Don't like Drew, but I love Andy on a girl :)

IMHO, yes. It would be awesome if he became a famous snowboarder. Not so awesome on a pediatrician, lawyer, teacher....

I think Andy is cute on a girl too but unfortunately I have a negative association with that name. My biological grandpa passed away before I was born and my grandma married a guy named Andy (we called him grandpa Andy). He ended up cheating on my grandma and then turned into a pain med addict and stole meds from his elderly mother. So I don't think I could do Andy.

One of my twins is Alexandria Hope, her sister is Victoria Faith.
  • @pkwest04 how funny! Our girl name was going to be the "girl" version of H's middle name Aaron (Erin) and my middle name.

We're having a boy but his middle name will be Alexander which is after my first name, Alexandria.

Literally just Zapp like Zapp Brannigan on Futurama. I have other boy names I'm considering but I kind of love it, haha.

It's a little too different for my taste. I think people would always assume it's a nn, and he might not love it as he grows into an adult.

  • If you were picking a sibling for Henson and Elise, would you go with Kate, Sadie, Mia, or Daphne?

I love Kate, dh loves Sadie, and we both like Daphne and Mia ok (it would take some convincing to get dh to go with anything other than Sadie or Harper). If I had my way her name would be Scarlett or Robin, but dh vetoed those.

All the characters on Futurama you could name your kid after and you pick Zapp?

    That's just mean.
In my defence, the other characters don't have particularly great names. Hubert?

I guess I'll just stick with the name I got from Archie comics

I would go with Kate. Scarlett I have always loved and would have been a contender to go with Alexandria and Victoria had this been a 3rd girl.
  • Tryin to decide
    Kane or Kieran.

me and my husband have never read a bible or know nothing about religion but some people keep referring Kane to a biblical story and that's not something I want. What you guys think?
  • @Liesvg The Book of Genesis is what I am familiar with, but I've been told that the story appears in the Torah and the Quran.  In the bible, Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain is the first person actually conceived and born in the bible and Abel is not only the first person to die, but he is the first person to be murdered. The worst part, his brother Cain is who kills him in a jealous rage.

Cain is also commonly used name for villains in comics and other works of fiction because of the origin. The one that comes to mind for me is The Juggernaut.

It it doesn't sound bad as a name, it's really quite nice, but I'd avoid it because it's name that has so many negative references. Just my opinion.

  • @Emztron500 our cat was named Zap at the shelter. We renamed him Oliver, aka Ollie. I think it's a cute nickname if you've got a squirmy toddler though!

@almostpriceless as an easy reference the Torah is just the first five books of the Old Testament. Good description and share for @Liesvg I definitely wouldn't go with Cain or the misspelling of it as a name!
  • @lynnernon I was pretty sure that how the Torah worked, but I wasn't certain. Now I want to google to find out about the Quran because I'm kind of a nerd.  ;)

  • My husband really likes the name Evie, I do as well, but I'm not sure it will be great later in life professionally. I know it can be short for Evelyn, but I'm not sold in that as a name. Thoughts on naming a child as a nickname/specifically the name Evie?
  • OK I brought this up on the random thread once but I think everyone assumed I was joking. Is it crazy to name my kid Zapp??
I think this works as a nickname but is not a good real name.  Not trying to be mean, but just think about this name on an adult.  Cute little kid name, killer frat nickname, but not a name that will get you respect in the job force.  If you got a resume with this name on it, would you take it seriously?  Just my opinion...

Why not just name her Eve and use Evie as a nickname?
  • So my husband and I have pretty much decided on the name Tristan Edward for our LO, but I just keep having this feeling that my son will turn into an entitled pussy with that name (crazy I know because it is really up to the parents to keep that in check).  It is hard because it really is both of our first choices...Edward as the middle name will have to work for any first name we choose.  Here are our top 5 choices:
    1. Tristan
    2. Ethan
    3. Conor
    4. Phillip
    5. Mattias
    Any feedback is appreciated...
  • @Emztron500

Thank you!!We really like Evie instead of Eve so our thought is if that's what we like why not just name her that, but I guess I've just been thinking about it too long. I just don't want to hurt her when she goes to find a job when she's older. I also just think it's a cool name.

I agree with the bolded statement. I don't think she'll have a problem getting the job she wants because her name is Evie.
