me and my husband have never read a bible or know nothing about religion but some people keep referring Kane to a biblical story and that's not something I want. What you guys think?

Being a hockey fan I immediately think of Patrick Kane. Don't know if you know hockey at all but he plays for the Chicago Blackhawks and is extremely well known in the hockey realm because he's a great player. With that spelling I would definitely think you're a Patrick Kane fan.
So my husband and I have pretty much decided on the name Tristan Edward for our LO, but I just keep having this feeling that my son will turn into an entitled pussy with that name (crazy I know because it is really up to the parents to keep that in check). It is hard because it really is both of our first choices...Edward as the middle name will have to work for any first name we choose. Here are our top 5 choices:
Tristan
Ethan
Conor
Phillip
Mattias
Any feedback is appreciated...
I like Tristan or ethan. Maybe a look at the meaning. Plus Tristan and Isolde is an awesome book

We actually like the name from Brad Pitt's character in Legends of the Fall...thanks for the advice

Kane is a very famous part of the bible. I'm not really religious but it's the first thing that comes to mind for me. Also Kane was a jerk in the bible and murdered his brother

Cain is from the Bible, Kane is not. Also, if you want to get techncal, David murdered a man so he could marry his wife, eve is the "downfall of all women",Adam let it happen, jonah ran from God and tried to condemn entire nation to death, etc... I was raised Southern Baptist, and especially since you aren't religious, I wouldn't worry about it. Kane is seen more as a last name now
@Trinirican3ondway Tycho is pronounced like TY-ko. I think it's getting more common, but it always just makes me think of Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe as I haven't really heard of any other Tychos (other than a kid in my toddler's swim class).
@Goocran17 I am way on board with Liesl. Super cute.
To the ladies whose husbands love Harper (this seems to be a popular husband pick, haha), is it the Harper Lee connection? Maybe they'd like Nelle, Harper Lee's real first name which I think is totally awesome and underloved right now.
I'm not really sure what got DH on the Harper bandwagon. I know someone that had a baby just a few months after our first daughter was born and they named her Harper. I vaguely remember telling DH and he wasn't a fan of that name. But as soon as we started talking about girl names that was one of the first names he mentioned. He claims it's not as trendy as I say because he doesn't know anyone with that name. To that I say, "well how many babies do you actually know because it's #4 on the SSA website for our area??"
My husband saw it on a baby list and liked it. He really likes the more modern boyish names, he was really into Parker for a while too.
Honestly, while I have encountered a couple little girls (and one little boy) named Harper in that last 4-5 years, I don't think it is as popular of a name, at least in my area (upper midwest), as some others I've seen mentioned. I think its saving grace is that it isn't a name that sounds like a lot of other names, which still makes it seem unique even if it has gotten increasingly common. I say if you're sold on it, or your only hesitancy is the popularity, you should go for it, but that's just me.
@almostpriceless I googled the Qu'ran too bc I thought it was like the bible plus more, but it's way more confusing. A lot of overlap but the stories are all written differently. I'd like to read more about it/of it at some point but right now I'm too obsessed with pregnancy and baby books and planning for this!
@sdnybrk I never thought about how odd it is that so many other people in the bible committed horrendous acts but the only ones that have a negative context in today's world are Cain (thinking strictly in terms of pronunciation, regardless of spelling) and Jezebel. So weird.

Kane, to me, is a WWE wrestler. lol. just for a different non-religious impression.
@almostpriceless the others absolutely did commit acts that could be labeled as horrible, but what sets them apart is that they came back to God. Not to turn this into a whole religious conversation, but that's why those two have negative connotations. Like Judas Iscariot, they all committed their acts and didn't repent.
Ya I wasn't going off the spelling, I was going off now it sounds from introducing himself or being introduced. Also, it's common to have a negative connotation with that name because of the bible.

A valid point. I've also been thinking about this some more because I'm toying with the name Abigail. David didn't kill the husband previously mentioned. He wanted to, but the wife (Abigail) stopped him.
Thank you!!We really like Evie instead of Eve so our thought is if that's what we like why not just name her that, but I guess I've just been thinking about it too long. I just don't want to hurt her when she goes to find a job when she's older. I also just think it's a cool name.
I love Evie, and I think it would be a great adult name.
My husband really likes the name Evie, I do as well, but I'm not sure it will be great later in life professionally. I know it can be short for Evelyn, but I'm not sold in that as a name. Thoughts on naming a child as a nickname/specifically the name Evie?
How funny I posted this same thing a few pages back! We are definitely calling our daughter Evie, but my husband wants her full name to be Evelyn. I don't see myself ever actually using the name Evelyn, but if it makes him agree on Evie then I guess I'll take it. I don't see a problem with just using the name Evie either.
Is Elena too close to the name Elise for two sisters? Elise will be two when baby girl arrived, and dh and I both like Elena, but I can't decide if they are too similar.
@AmberLiz99 I have friends who named their daughters Marilyn and Carolyn so no, I don't think those are too close at all! I realize they both have the same opening letters (El) but the mashed flow very differently.
Just for kicks, we're naming our DS Seth Henry Blair. My husband's name was supposed to be Seth before his biological father made what I think was the only parenting decision of his life, and my grandfather's middle name was Henry (his first name was Elmer and though I think it's cute I couldn't do that that to a kid).
Oh, and I forget who was talking about the name Hazel, but that's my middle name and I went by it for years! I always got a ton of compliments on it and, oddly enough, it was never misspelled.
If someone introduced themselves as "Ray-uh", how would you spell it or assume it is spelled?
Rhea.
I knew one "Ray-uh" and I love the name. This is how she spells it. But when I look up Rhea it says it's pronounced "Ree-uh". I don't like that pronounciation at all and would not want her to be called that. I was thinking Raya but didn't know if people would think it's a variation of Maya and pronounce it Ry-uh. I have also seen Rheya but does that name look made up to you? I really like the Rhea spelling best but I'm worried about proper pronounciation. Rea might be an option also. Had not thought of that.
Is Elena too close to the name Elise for two sisters? Elise will be two when baby girl arrived, and dh and I both like Elena, but I can't decide if they are too similar.
I think no, not too close. They actually flow well and it doesn't sound like Dr Seuss or a tongue twister so I'd say keep it if you both agree on it.

I wouldn't necessarily rule it out but they are a little "matchy". Could you do a similar name that doesn't start with "El-", like Lana, Allana, or Layna?

I like Lana, I'm just not sure about it with our last name (it starts with L and is also 2 syllables)
Am I being overly picky here? DD1s name is Brooklynn so I'm avoiding names that end in an -in or -en sound because I feel it's too similar. For example, DH likes Peyton and Hayden and I think it's too redundant with DDs name. I feel the same way about our last name. Our last name is Miller and I think Harper Miller sounds redundant with the -er sound at the end. DH thinks I'm being silly/picky which could very well be true. What do you all think?
I don't have an answer but I'm pretty much in the same boat. DS's name is Ryan and DH and I both like Carson for LO but we don't love that they both end in "n". I also have an "er" sound in my last name so I'm not in love with names that end in "er". And that pretty much rules out every boy name we can think of
@AmberLiz99 - Have you ever seen "Love Actually"? That's one of the character's names (I'm not sure if you are pronouncing it the same way, but that's how it's spelled). I think it's pretty!
Re: Discuss Baby Names Here!! 2/22
@Liesvg look at the meaning. Names can mean, stand for so many things

eta- if you look it up Kane is a homonym for Cain
