On the telling people topic...my mom and I met one of my closest friends for dinner (we grew up next door to each other so my mom obviously knows her and her family well, too) and I mentioned I wanted to tell her I was pregnant.  And then she got semi pissy about how come I'm allowed to tell her and she's not allowed to tell anyone yet? Because it's not your news to share!?  I don't understand why that's so difficult to process? Not to mention if God forbid something happened, I'd also tell this friend.  I don't need you to tell your knitting friends all my business quite yet, thankyouverymuch.

    ETA: why we met :)

  • @PSUBecky23 - Similar situation here....but completely backwards! We sent our kids to stay at my parents house on Sunday night because I had an early appointment on Monday. (I had work off on Monday so, of course, my kids should have had the day off, right?!) I wanted DH to be there because it was my first one with my OB since my RE had released me from his care and I wanted DH to meet him and ask questions. We left the house at 8:30 and started seeing school busses everywhere. What is this nonsense?? So here I am texting my boss, "We have the day off, right?!" and there's DH looking at the school calendar online, only to find out that our kids, did in fact, have school on Monday! Well then. My parents live an hour away. We DID NOT go and get the kids. They enjoyed an extra day off. Parenting Fails....

  • @cnickerson0215 I think a lot of people still associate midwives as random women who help with with births at homes. They aren't aware of the degrees and amount of training they have to go through. That and some midwife groups deliver in a hospital with an OBGYN there to "catch" the baby, which my mom and MIL were surprised (and probably relieved) to hear.
This article is a good one to have on hand and send those close to you who have questions. https://unexpectant.com/debunking-six-myths-of-midwifery/

Oops. Keeping track of my own schedule is hard enough. Having to keep track of school schedule too is nearly impossible. Can't wait until it's two kids.

  • @blondie080300 -- right there with you! At 10 weeks exactly, I broke down and bought a pair of under-the-belly maternity jeans at target. They are the best! I had picked up some over the belly ones at a consignment store, but they kept falling down. I vote, skip the hair tie, go straight to some under the belly pants. I haven't been so comfy in weeks. ;)

  • @lovelylauren86 my toe looks exactly the same, except it's because I was trying to pull my damned jeans up and totally smashed my toe on the foot of our couch. YOWCH!

@blondie080300 Oh I've been doing a rubber band for a week but it's a pain in the neck to redo after peeing every five damned minutes lol! Just coming up on 10 weeks too (today technically by the measurements of the little dumpling but 9w5d according to LMP). I finally caved and bought the Bella Bands. Total lifesaver! Especially with my work pants, I can't sit for more than five minutes without nearly cutting off my lower half. I'm dying for warmer weather here so I can start busting out my comfier spring clothes- leggings and very flowy tops- but I too shall be tunic shopping very, very soon!

  • I just hate when people comment about your birthing options in general, like everyone was so against me having a med-free labor..mind your own business! Then, a Facebook friend was already 41 weeks so she had an induction scheduled for a few days later. (Obviously she was trying to avoid being induced if possible..) but there were comments like "I hope you don't have to get induced, it really sucks, I hated it." Not helpful at all, why would you say that or make the person feel worse?

That wasn't even my random comment I was coming to post. It's this: this pregnancy so far (cravings and such) has been very similar to my DDs, rather my DS, so I have a small sliver of hope it could be a girl!

  • @blondie080300 I went out on Monday night and snagged 2 pair of Old Navy high rise leggings. They are like heaven! Too bad I can't wear them to work, but they will be my uniform when I'm not at work for the foreseeable future!
  • Ugh, ok I think I need to break down and buy some maternity work pants.  Before getting PG my work pants were on the snug end, last week they were tight and today not going to hook at all.  I can't do the hair tie trick with these.  I'm going to order the bellaband today and go shopping over the weekend.  For now it is dresses with tights.
  • 1st I apparently need to come every day and read this thread.  It had been a week and I had 5 pages to catch up on.

2nd I am now starving after reading this and all the food posts!

lovelylauren86  I just had a sex dream about the guy I dated before DH.  I woke up totally feeling bad!

  • Hello all!  Just checking in after a few days off (I'm not a fan of mobile bumping, so I do most from work).

I napped from 9-10 on the couch last night before hubby and I moved up to bed. Once up there, I had a few instances of starting to drift off and being in an absolute nightmare and having to fling my body to wake myself up. It ends up feeling like sleep paralysis.. where I'm awake enough to think I can hear myself breathing (and of course it always sounds like I'm short of breath which throws me into panic) but not awake enough to move.

So yeah. that was a fun hour last night of being afraid to fall asleep. Wee!

  • @AnnaS930 I get sleep paralysis. It's the worse. I always feel like I'm suffocating when it happens and terrified that if I let sleep take over, I'll stop breathing.

The last couple nights, I actually slept really well. Then this morning, I got up at 4:30 to put my progesterone in and, despite feeling exhausted, didn't start drifting back to sleep until 7:00-ish, just as DD woke up for the morning.

  • @camichael84 Do you always get up early to put in the progesterone?  What a pain, on top of it all!  When do you get to stop using it?  I was able to stop last week at 11 weeks.  Hallelujah!

  • AnnaS930  I've gotten sleep paralysis throughout my life, 2/3 of the time with night terrors.  I have found when you are in the kind of awake but in the cannot move state you can usually move your eyes.  I have a whole system: first try to move you eyes all around, next your eye lids, and lastly try to tighten you muscles.  Usually within a few minutes I can move. I always thought this happened to everyone but a few years ago I found out I was in the extreme minority.
  • @camichael84 and @jhems776 - it happened to me the first time in college, and tends to only happen when I'm drifting off and super overly tired. My reaction is always to try to continue breathing since it sounds like I'm not (I'm a really loud sleep breather anyways) and then try to move my entire body, it feels like I'm flinging myself but when I do wake up it's just an arm/my head that jerks. I'm happy/sad that you guys have both experienced this.

My family all laughed when I explained it after the first time, within a year it happened to my sister and she called to apologize because of how terrifying it was.

I also find that after it happens once I spook myself so much that it happens a few more times.. like last night every time I'd start to drift off I'd panic and couldn't move. Ugh.

Going to try not to think about it tonight and hopefully get some better rest.

@JennM205 Yeah, I put it in 4:30 am and pm every day. I like to lay with it in for a while. It's a suppository, and I've had them fall right out. 4:30 is the perfect time because I can lay with it in for 3-4 hours before DD gets up in the morning, and DH is home in the afternoon to look after DD while I lie down for a bit. But half the time, I have a hard time going back to sleep in the morning. It sucks. But it's worth it.

I saw last week on the weekly check-in that you got to go off yours. I'm so happy for you that your done with them! I think I'll be going off at 12 weeks, which is in less than 2 weeks. But I'm not totally sure. I used them until 13 weeks with DD, but if I remember correctly, I could have went off of them at 12 and I chose to wait an extra week. I'm going to call my OB next week to see if I need to go past 12 weeks. I wouldn't bother them, but I'll need to refill the prescription before my next appt if they want me on them longer than 12 weeks.

  • @camichael84 Interesting that yours is a twice a day application.  Mine was just once a day, so I inserted it before bedtime so I could lay down with it in all night.  Your timing makes sense, considering!

When I first started on the suppositories, the nurse told me to continue until 10 weeks.  At my 8 week appointment, my OB clarified that they wanted me to use them through 10 weeks, so until 11.  I know every OB and medication is different, though, so who knows.  I'm glad I was able to stop when I did.  (Not having to refill another $80 prescription, among other reasons. ;) )  Don't get me wrong, I'm SO happy that (so far) things are looking good and I have no idea how much that is credited to the Progesterone so I wouldn't have changed a thing.  But I'm glad it's behind me!

@JennM205 Yours cost a lot more than mine! I'm only paying $18/month. Granted, I was on the exact same thing with DD, and I paid $60 then (I only remember bc it came to $1 per suppository). I have no idea what changed as to why they are so much cheaper this time, but I was pleasantly surprised the first time I filled the prescription.

  • My poor little guy has had diarrhea for the past couple days and is developing a really ad diaper rash as a result. I don't really know what I can do to help him.

  • @camichael84 Man, $18/month sounds heavenly.  Mine was $80 for 15 doses (days)!!!!!  And it's not like I have poor insurance or anything like that!

Are you home with him? When my kids have bad diarrhea, we do the BRAT diet and I don't use wipes at diaper change... I plop them in the tub for a rinse down each time.

Poor little buddy though! Diaper rashes are terrible :( hope he feels better soon!

I never experienced it until adulthood either. I do like you and will be focused on my breathing, but can move the toes on one foot usually. I'll keep moving them until I can move my whole foot and after moving the foot for a while, I can usually get my whole body to move. Sometimes I think I'm making noise, but since I've never woke up DH when it happens, I don't think I really am.

    Hope you sleep better tonight!

He's at daycare today, so they are wiping and using cream. I was just reading about the BRAT diet. I think I will give him some yogurt tonight - he just finished up 2 weeks of antibiotics, so he probably needs to get the bacterial balance in his digestive system back in-line. To add to that, he is also teething (his first set of molars finally broke through in the last few days), which has caused mild diarrhea in the past.

  • I broke down and had a half-cup of coffee today as I could not stay awake at work without something!   After not having caffeine for over two months, that half -cup = whoa energy!!!!
  • @marajay6 I second the BRAT diet, not using wipes (a warm cloth works if you can't do a bath everytime), and if you're not opposed to diaper creams using the original Desitin. A nurse at DD's pediatrician's office suggested we do a layer of A&D then lock it in with Desitin on top of it, but I had the best luck with just Desitin.

@jennm205 $80 for 15 days!! That's crazy! That makes me feel better for having to take it twice a day instead of just once. Haha

Me too! Works wonders on cracked/bitten nipples too. I love that stuff.

Also, OP, some air-it-out time is always great for diaper rashes too. Dicey when you are dealing with diarrhea, but maybe you can let him have some diaper-free time in the kitchen or somewhere else with hard-surface floors that are easy to clean? That always does wonders for my little guy when he gets a rash.

  • I haven't been Bumping much due to terrible nausea :(
  • Thank you everyone for the advice of the diaper rash. I left work early and picked up DS after his nap. I tried letting him soak his rash in a warm bath, but he wouldn't sit down. Daycare warned me that he has been avoiding sitting for most of the day. So he just stood in the tub leaning over the side while I splashed water on him. We then had some naked time before he aired it out. I found a website that lists foods to feed and avoid with diarrhea and sent my husband a mini grocery list. DS is uncomfortable but still in good spirits. I am sure that the rash will quickly go away once the diarrhea subsidies.

  • I am on the last button of my work pants. There are 3 total and #1 and #2 are far away from closing! Looks like the maternity pants will be coming out this weekend.

@marajay6 good luck with the rash!! Sorry LO has been sick :(. I also find air time, organic or cloth diapers, and baking soda in the bath (when he's able to take one) work well!
  • @Jabreen I'm the same- I can button mine just fine, it's sitting down that makes them cut me in half basically. I got the Bella Bands too and they really do make life so much better- so much more comfy! :)
