I've read all the GOT books but haven't seen very much of the show yet.
Maybe a UO here, but the books were soo much better! You know how HBO has to hyper-sex everything. They added a bunch of stuff so they can show nude people. I loved the books so much I get mad when they mess with the story but I still enjoy watching it.
@CourtJack yes - but they wanted a level II with the special tech person and was really short about why. All looked ok and baby is still a boy!
i cried during greys. And I can't wait for GoT.
Anyone else see that commercial for the new TGIT show starting March 3? During the time scandal is normally on? Did we just get like three weeks before the season ends or something?

I'm probably going to wait to watch the show, too, because I'll be on pelvic rest soon.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

Agree with all of this, the books were so, so, so much better! That being said I still can't wait for next season to come out. I need to know how the writers are going to handle it all!!

Can't beat the books. I don't have HBO, so I haven't seen much of the show past season 2. I'm waiting for the next book. All our kids will be in kindergarten before ol' George gets around to finishing it....ugh!
Another GoT fan here! I love the books and think they are better than the show also. However I do understand why they've done some things in the show differently. I don't want to give things away by saying what for those who haven't watched the show yet!
H and I are HUGE GoT fans! I've read all the books and it's killing me that GRRM keeps pushing back publishing the next one. Get it together, man! We're excited for the next season, but I dislike being ahead of the books.
June 2016 April Siggy Challenge: Reasons my kid is crying
I guess that I'm in the minority. While I love GoT, I hated the first book. I don't care what color the leaves were and what direction the wind was blowing and how her hair was set... just get back to the story! His writing style reminds me of Tolkein - too much detail to keep me interested, but really captivating story. Luckily for me, they made all of those into movies too so I don't have to read the crazy details anymore!
That being said, the additional violence/gore/sex that they added to the show seems to be getting a little over-the-top for me. Not that it will stop me from watching it...
I just realized the full joy of all the online shopping I've done lately...3 packages for the nursery arrived! It's like Christmas morning over here for me, & I'm just here like:

For books like these I listen to them on my phone, because otherwise I'd get lost in the details! I couldn't make it through the LOTR books even when listening. And yes! The added scenes in the show can be too much at times, but I still watch every week!
Ya'll I know nothing about Game of Thrones. I just had to price out an event in Napa with that theme and I was so lost! I can tell you the lady actor is a lot cheaper to book than the guy. The guy is like $250,000 if you want him to show up at your baby shower
I am having a hard time keeping up on TV. Mainly because I can't stay awake after my toddler goes to bed. It's a real problem! I'm a full season of GofT behind now.
Last week out of desperation I watched X-Files WITH my toddler, giving her a pep talk the whole time about how the lizard monster was "just a friendly monster" but she was not amused.
I contemplated posting this in FFFC, because I have to confess that I have a baby shower question. I know how much they are driving everyone crazy, but I just want to hear what your thoughts are on this. I apologize in advance...please don't hate me...
My mom just told me that they've got my shower scheduled for June 5th. I will be 37 weeks. Is this too close?! I told her I thought it seemed too close to my due date, but she kept saying "it will be fine." SO...thoughts?
@deepaddy24 - My family said they wanted to throw mine the first weekend of May (I'll be between week 35-36 then). I was worried about it being too close too (especially because you will presumably get gifts and want to organize/put things together) but they are adamant it will be fine as well. It is fairly typical for family members here to have a shower 4 weeks before baby's due date. Not sure if that makes you feel any better but, basically, I'm in a similar boat. Do you have to travel for the shower?

I wasn't told anything aside from the date, but our family is all local so I imagine I won't be travelling far. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Thank you!

That would make me nervous. Not necessarily the attending it part but the fact that you have to finish prepping for baby and you won't know what you have left to get until after the shower.

^^This is a concern I'd have too, in addition to possibly having a baby in my arms by then. However, since it's likely a local shower and travel wouldn't be involved, you might be perfectly fine.
@deepaddy24 - I also agree with @huskerfanz on the fact that it does put a burden on you to wait to see what you get at the shower before you buy some of the other things you might need. I plan on buying the big ticket items myself (crib, stroller, car seat, rocker, etc.) as well as having some basic outfits, diapers, etc. ready so I don't have to worry about this issue...honestly, I'm not sure my family would get any of the bigger ticket items for me anyway due to money constraints. It puts you in a tough spot but, like me, I'm not sure you have much room to ask them to move it if you've already expressed your worry and they've poo-poo'd it. Sorry you are in this boat too.
I would raise it up one more time. You run the risk of having the baby before the shower. My mom/MIL/sisters are throwing mine when I'm 33 weeks for this reason.
Thanks for your responses @mkemommy@Huskerfanz@crdo@shannonrnbsn -- we've already got the furniture for the nursery, along with the car seat, stroller, & breast pump, but I've got the pack n play on our registry & was planning to use that in our room for the first few weeks. There are a few other big ticket items we've got on our registry that require set up, & that I had hoped to have set up in advance as a way to help prepare our dog. I might try to mention all of this to my mom as a last-ditch effort. It's definitely a tough spot. I don't want to see ungrateful (because I am so thankful she & my family/friends are doing this for me)...but I'm so concerned about the timing.
@DeePaddy24 I'll be 36 weeks at my shower, I'm really not worried about it? I figure anything I NEED that I didn't get at the shower I can order on amazon or send DH out for that week or so... I think you'll be fine but I'm an optimist I'm also waiting till that weekend to have it because I want it outside at my parents house (they have a big yard/pool) and I'm banking on beautiful weather... I guess worst case it will be raining and I'll have gone into early labor, but I choose to envision the opposite !!
@fishwife799 - Twilight is better in movie form... it's shorter and you don't have to listen to as much of her obnoxious internal monologue!
I have to disagree. I would read those books any day over watching the movies any day of the week. The acting is just terrible. I really hate those movies for about a million reasons. I will agree the books have some terrible writing but the story is at least ok.
ETA- I have read some books that the movies are comparable and actually done really well, but the books are always better IMO
@DeePaddy24: I don't blame you for your concern, and I wouldn't say raising your worries a second time makes you seem ungrateful. Now, if you didn't think the shower was fancy enough *cough cough*, sure
Seriously though, @msbeachnj raised some good points about how you can quickly purchase last minute things you need if baby comes early especially since you'll already have a good but of your big ticket items, and chances are baby won't come early.
I'd say if it worries you enough, have an honest talk with mom, and see what happens from there. If they don't want to move the shower after all, then just go with it and know it'll most likely all be just fine.

I think it'll depend on how you're feeling, physically. Everyone is different, but FTMs tend to deliver after their due date - so in terms of it being too close to go-time, I wouldn't fret. But, it's all about what you're comfortable with. I know I was bored senseless by the end of my pregnancies, so I would welcome a shower at that stage as it would give me something to look forward to doing, aside from ticking off the days till the due date.
**disclaimer that not all FTMs go late - so don't quote me on that.
PSA ladies: Beware of a nasty intestinal virus going around. I just spend the night and most of the day in the mom and baby unit at my hospital. TMI: I started throwing up early Thursday morning while at my sales calls and then had to drive home miserably for four hours while having to stop every 20 minutes or so to heave my guts out. When I finally got home DH drive me directly to the hospital because I knew I wouldn't keep any fluids down. I'm so thankful too because I was already severely dehydrated and my stomach was constantly convulsing. After some fluids, Zofran and stronger anti nausea meds I finally could drink water again sometime during the night. Feeling much better now and baby girl is just fine. That was very scary and the sickest I have ever been. I've never even stayed or had surgery in a hospital. Only good note is that we basically got an insider tour at our L&D and recovery department!
QUESTION! I don't want to start a new thread and I figure enough of you will see this.
When did you/will you start travelling with your LOs? H's sister has metastatic breast cancer so there's no way she's making it down to CA (she lives in ID) anytime soon. I was thinking about bringing up maybe going up to see her before I go back to work. I've only flown once in my life so I'm not sure I'm 100% comfortable flying with a newborn because I'm still really sketchy about it myself. Plus, I don't want to pay for tickets and then not be able to go and be out the money. The drive is about 12 hours (we'd break it up into two days, most likely) but the baby would likely be under 8 weeks depending on how much leave I end up taking. Once I go back to work I won't have any vacation time until next year and I mean I hate to be negative, but I hate to wait that long because you never know.
Bad idea? Anyone ever done it?
H will get really excited if I bring it up to him so I don't want to jump the gun. I'll definitely ask my OB what the official recommendations are for traveling with a newborn/post partum but my next appointment isn't for like 2 weeks. So I'm just curious what you guys think/have experience with.
@ahernandez16 I am/am going to be super paranoid about my baby getting sick unnecessarily so I would be really wary of flying with them so young. I do plan to drive about 6 hours when baby is only 2 months old or so to meet H's grandparents who have mobility issues that prevent them from traveling to us and potentially making 8 hour trip to Myrtle Beach to see my grandma in the same time frame. I don't see any issues with making the drive but I would be too paranoid to fly.
@ahernandez16 I think flying with a newborn is actually kind of easy. We flew with DS when he was 4 months and I wore him and nursed so that cut down on what we brought. He just checked things out and slept in the carrier. I just wanted to wait for his 2 month shots.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI! Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!
@huskerfanz@sgoldberg247 yeah, I'm definitely wary about the germs on a plane more than anything. I know newborns sleep A LOT and the flight to Idaho is only about 2 hours so I'm not as concerned about him making a ruckus. I suppose driving wouldn't pose the same germ risk.
I just wasn't sure if a 2 day, 12 hour road trip seemed like too much to tackle with a newborn.
In my mind flying is easier than driving as the infant isn't restricted in one position in the car seat for hours at a time. The germs are a concern, as are earaches from take off and landing. My DH and I will be flying to Idaho when LO is ~3mths for our annual family reunion/hunting trip. I would probably still plan to go if he was 8wks as its likely the only way my siblings will meet their nephew.
@DeePaddy24 I missed my shower that was at 37 weeks because I had DS1 the night before...but that's not typical for FTM
@ahernandez16 I traveled 6 hours with DS1 when he was 3 weeks old. Just have to stop and feed often, but otherwise it was fine. Sat in the back with him so i could check on him easily

I've eaten so much today, after having like no appetite for a couple weeks. Baby must be growing!
Last week out of desperation I watched X-Files WITH my toddler, giving her a pep talk the whole time about how the lizard monster was "just a friendly monster" but she was not amused.
@kballew10, but really, neither the books not the movies were very good.
@emztron500 I've had to do that once with my toddler when I was trying to watch something on tv that wasn't one of her shows. She too, was not amused.
