  • @AK118 Was it the second half of my post that was throwing us both off? I was complaining to DH about the issue that I posted about above, and he pretty much had the same reaction I did. I wasn't referring to smacking people in the face as dangerous! :D

I came across this and watched it with DH. He was in tears laughing but he's also a little terrified in the same time.

  • Any one want to help with make a damned decision about cribs?!
MIL keeps taking me to BRU to look at cribs (not what I want to do really) and I found one there I like. I noticed that the same brand, but not the same exact crib per se, are sold at target and Walmart as well. Is there a quality difference buying from BRU versus target? I know there's so much hype around baby things but that some places are better than others so I'm just not sure.
  • I just saw that someone named their baby Winterhawk....I don't even know how to process that :/

  • @WBORDERS specific lines make different designs for different retailers - doesn't mean they're better/worse in general from any. They have a lot of legitimately identical items available at both stores only BRU often upcharges.
  • Who was it who was thinking of personalized M&Ms for their shower (I'm way too lazy to scroll back in the thread)? Looks like Groupon's got a $40 for $20 deal on them today, if it's still an option you're considering and you haven't placed the order yet!
  • Is it weird of me to think that the more DS is around kids who don't talk but they babble, the more he does "baby talk?" It seems like he says more words when he hasn't spent a lot of time playing with his cousin. If he spends most of the week playing with his cousin, he does a lot more of the baby babble. It may just be my imagination though.

Not weird at all! I have a nephew with delayed speech that becomes markedly worse around adults who don't make him use his words; he knows (after a LOT of heartache and work on his mom's part) how to speak but still regresses if given the chance.
  • I'm writing a paper today that is supposed to be a minimum of 2000 words and I have like 700 and feel like there is nothing left to talk about. I need to BS 1300 more words. I'm going insane!

Not weird at all, probably very accurate. We will be getting DD evaluated for speech services soon. She talks a LOT, in words, but she is difficult to understand. She was late getting teeth, plus DH had some speech problems when he was younger, so we knew it was a possibility. I've been working with her some on pronunciation but I'm not trained. That's why I was so frustrated about her not being moved up faster to the 2 year old classroom and being stuck in the older one's room, because since she already struggled I don't want her held back more by being seeing younger kids who don't talk as much. Thankfully she moves up Monday to the 2 year old room, so I'm hoping this will help her speech.

  • I think I may have either pulled or torn a lower ab muscle  :/ At first I thought it was RLP, but its way too central, under my uterus, and is always tender to the touch like a bruise (whereas RLP eases). I can't feel a tear and it's not so sore that I can't feel around, so I'm really hoping it's just a pull or strain  :| But dang, it's sore and frustrating! I have this fear that it could hinder my ability to push, because if that's what it is, it's really difficult for it it to heal while pregnant!

The only other kid DS is around is my nephew, who is about 3 months younger than him. My nephew doesn't really talk, and when he does, it's mostly babbling. DS knows a ton of words, but on weeks when my nephew is playing with him most of the time, he refuses to say the words he does know. It's frustrating. I've also watched my ILs just babble back at him instead of encouraging him to use words.

Not that I'm advocating cheating in any way >.> But my fiancé used to change the color to white and type a few words at the end of each sentence to up the word count... Not gonna give you 1300, but a good twenty or so lol

Yes my godson unfortunately still doesn't speak. He screams or makes noise or just screams to get what he wants or attention. His parents don't make him use words or they just give up trying and give him whatever he wants to stop the noise. It's sad because when I am around my other nephew, he is the same age and he speaks very frequently in well thought out sentences. His mother is constantly talking to him and getting him to use his words.
  • Ok so I am officially devastated.  :/ I remember reading on here that someone asked a dermatologist who said that if your stretch marks stayed purple/red they will go away after birth. If they start turning white they will remain.
Well I looked in the mirror this morning and saw my stretch marks had disappeared in color a bit. I didn't think anything of it.

Now upon closer examination, they are in fact turning white and I want to cry  :'(

I didn't know any of that! I'll have to look more closely at mine...but I'm determined to get over them. After a minor freak-out after discovering the first ones, I decided that I can't raise my daughter to be body-confident if I'm hung up of a few tiger stripes....even if that means one-piece bathing suits from now on.
  • @kalanieileen The Fraxel CO2 laser gets rid of white stretch marks. It's expensive but groupon sometimes has deals. I had a friend do it on her side boob area and she is very happy.
  • @jonesl12 Lol yeah it happens! The only times I have ever orgasmed in my sleep have been while pregnant.
  • Okay, I hate myself for posting this and I know we all loathe weight gain posts (myself included), but I'm starting to get concerned. I'm 30 weeks and have gained 8 lbs despite starting out at a 18 BMI. last month, my midwife said my goal was to gain 4 more lbs by my 30 week appt, but I haven't gained anything. I track my calories due to my restricted diet and I'm eating at least 2100 calories a day of whole foods. We had a growth u/s and baby boy is growing a little to the large side which is great. However I can see myself losing weight especially in my arms and thighs. I need ideas for some ways to get more fat in before I start eating straight butter (sarcasm but you get the point). And, yes, I feel like a total ass for even posting about it.
  • @k&Elizabeth are you on a restricted diet because you're paleo or because of GD? Refresh my memory - I don't want to assume!

@jonesl12 I'm sorry, but I laughed out loud. I'm sorry it was painful but I do hope it was a good dream!
  • @AmadorRose I'm on restricted diet due to autoimmune thyroiditis (hashimotos and graves) and am now adding GD to the mix.
  • Don't feel bad!  I have a friend that gained 11 pounds her whole pregnancy and delivered a 7lb baby. She was a bit heavy to begin with and her doc was never super concerned as she was eating normally and baby was on track. I've gained 30 and have a baby in the 60th percentile at this point so I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum.

@AmadorRose It was a good one for sure lol

@K&Elizabeth I might be the only one but I'm glad you posted about this because I'm going through the same thing and didn't want to ruffle any feathers by bringing it up but I'm worried too.

I'm 32 weeks and have gained 9lbs. I don't have a restricted diet and eat normally (I have never had an increased appetite with either of my babies). If I continue at this rate, I will only gain 15lbs total (4 pounds less than last pregnancy) and that is really concerning to me since I was considered "under weight" to being with.

I'm not sure what the answer is. I'm of the mind set that your body with gain exactly what your baby needs but I find myself faltering from that now...so I guess I have no solid advice, just hugs and letting you know you are not alone! :kissing_heart:

  • @jordanbara that's comforting that I'm not the only one. I gained about 25 lbs with my first and it was pretty steady gain. I was told to aim for a total of 35-40 lbs of weight gain because I was underweight to begin with, but at this rate, I'll be lucky to hit 20. Obviously, there could be much worse problems to have, but I'm having a hard time shaking the feeling that I'm not giving his baby everything he needs.

I actually started losing weight last month after I cut caffeine and sugar from my diet. I've lost 7 lbs, but my doctor doesn't seem too worried. I let myself splurge for DH's birthday weekend, but I'm getting rid of the junk food again as of today.

I only gained 20 lbs my last pregnancy, and most of that was at the end from baby packing on the fat. I lost inches the entire pregnancy. I went from a size 10/12 in jeans to a size 6.

My my grandmother only gained the weight of my dad when she was pregnant with him. When she was in labor the hospital didn't believe her and joked that she was maybe 12 weeks pregnant. My dad was completely healthy.

As long as LO looks like they are growing just fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy. If you're not gaining a lot of weight, it's ok. If you're gaining a lot of weight, it's ok. It sounds like you're eating enough calories and maybe your LO is doing what my first did and being a little fat sucker.

I totally get that and I'm feeling the same way. Hopefully it's all going straight to baby and we are just the ones withering away lol that's what I tell myself at least

Yes. This. I give zero craps about having stretch marks. Post baby weight on the other hand >.> That shit's gotta go as soon as I'm allowed to start on it.
  • @kalanieileen I would tell her to promptly F right off.

I'm trying to get over it! I've always struggled with body confidence issues much like other women do unfortunately. I think what bothers my the most is my best friend who had her son then two days later went back to being the size of a toothpick continues to make comments about how big I am and wow I'm going to have to push a huge baby. As her best friend, I believe I'm entitled to tell her to shut the f up.
I think you'd be justified in telling her that. I have a sister who weighed 118 after her baby...she's 5'10". She looked gross, IMO but she worked really hard to try to put on weight. I definitely don't envy that!

@k&elizabeth can you ask for some kind of consult to a nutritionist? I'm not sure how regular insurance works, maybe you can just go see one. It would probably be worth it with everything going on. Also, weight gain standards lean toward gaining weight far more than they used to; I started at 21 BMI and was advised to gain 25-35. My mom was shocked and thinks I should gain no more than 15 because I'm petite. I've gained around 20 thus far and other than my new second chin, it's all belly and a bit of swelling. As long as baby is looking good, I don't think you should lose sleep over it. The only other thing I'd worry about would be breastfeeding, because you won't have a fat reserve so you'll just have to really pack in calories if you are planning to BF.
  • @kalanieileen didn't read the full thread yet... You have my permission to slap her straight in the face for that shit. I think that's wretched of her to say things like that.
