Saturday Check-In

Good morning ladies! Happy Saturday!

How far along are you?

Rant/Rave/Symptoms:

What are you doing to prepare for baby?

Questions?

GTKY: What was your first dance song at your wedding? If you're not married, do you have a "song" with your SO, or a favourite love song?

@Emztron500: Nope, not terrible. You do you! Good luck finishing the reno!

Edit. Can't spell. Even with spellcheck.
  • OH! I do have a question. I've been searching google but getting nowhere, so I figure I should turn to you ladies!

H wants to use Ronald as our sons middle name, after his dad. I totally get that...but, I really don't like it. I thought we were going to go with David, after his Grandpa, since the 1st name is a family name from my side. So, in an effort to compromise I was hoping to find names similar to Ronald...mostly focusing on names that share a meaning. That's where I'm stumped...I'm not finding much, and anything I have found is worse (in my opinion). Do you ladies have any suggestions for me? Luckily we're still got plenty of time to sort this all out, but it was on my mind a lot last night so wanted to look into it today.

  • @HighFive16 oh no, I hope you don't have to cancel your trip! That sucks.

    It totally does!!

@DeePaddy24 that is a tough one on the name. The only variation I know if is Reynold or Ron but that isn't much help I know. Names are so hard!

@MrsAlliKat I used to have the best eyebrow lady, but she moved away a couple years ago and no one can do what she does. I hate it when my eyebrows are too thin. I'm a redhead so there's only so much filling in that I can do without it looking ridiculous. I've taken to tweezing them myself, but I hate it.

@annaf2011 Good luck on your move! Are you moving cities, or just residences?

@HighFive16 I'm so sorry! I hope your trip doesn't get cancelled. Boo.

@DeePaddy24 I have no suggestions about Ronald, but I love the name David. Are there other names in your family you can pull from? These aren't that similar, but maybe Ronan or Rowan?

@crdo Poor kitty! Let us know. I just gave my own cat a squeeze.

@Emztron500 I expect photos of the kitchen! :)

@parsonsperson I only recently discovered how good brussel sprouts are with bacon! I had a doughnut for breakfast, so no judging here.

@samsonator Glad your u/s went well!
  • @KayDray15 I love that song! So perfect for a wedding.

  • @shannonrnbsn I've never heard of that tradition before...? We didn't even put furniture of any kind on our registry for DD.

  • @hockeyfan42 I'm glad to hear it wasn't a misstep on my part. The only "furniture" we have on our registry is a P&P. Otherwise, it's your standard bottles, teething rings, clothes, etc.
  • @shannonrnbsn I've never heard of that as a tradition, either. Our parents both split the costs of our nursery furniture, which was very generous, but it wasn't for tradition purposes. I can't think of any traditions involving the grandparents...I know there are some cultural ones, but none that I'm familiar with.

  • @DeePaddy24 that is wonderful of them! At first I thought my MIL said that so I couldn't refuse her going overboard on registry items (my H is her only child, and she has financially helped us with other big events without being asked, which I accepted graciously but it was not necessary, just very kind) until my father said the same thing. I don't think they're incahoots, so I was caught off guard.
  • Questions? My MIL and father both were upset that my H and I went to ikea and bought our furniture. They said furniture is traditionally purchased by the grandparents, which is obviously extremely generous. I had no idea! It was unintentional and we would have been so grateful, but we didn't know. Are there any other traditions that I should know about?? I don't want to step on toes.

Our parents bought no furniture for us so I don't think it is a tradition for everyone.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

When my hubby and I were in the process of buying our first home, 5 weeks before the wedding, my dad contacted the seller and bought the living room and dining room furniture for us. It was super awesome because everything looked nice in there and was already there when we closed. We still have and love all the furniture.
  • @shannonrnbsn I've never heard of that either. All my parents have bought so far have been clothes. Nothing from my ILs, yet.

Don't feel too bad. It seems to me like if that was the expectation they should've possibly brought it up earlier than the halfway mark.

Bahahaha!!! I was thinking we were on the wedding theme still not for baby! We purchased our own cribs for the girls. Maybe instead of text fighting with my hubby I should have read all the posts instead of skimming them and looking like a dumbass!!!!!!
  • @msallikat, @catherinekate, @hockeyfan42: Thanks! H took kitty to the vet. X-ray showed nothing concerning, so a foreign body is ruled out. He got subcutaneous fluids and anti-nausea meds, so we'll see how he does with all that.

@hockeyfan42: I told H about your cat in the attic issue this am, and he cracked up only because that's EXACTLY what my other cat would do given the opportunity. Whenever one of us is in the attic, the other is on cat watch duty so no one sneaks up the ladder. Must have been a pain. Ugh.

@DeePaddy24: I agree with PPs on the Rowan or Ronan suggestion.

@shannonrnbsn: Nope, not a tradition I've heard of either!
  • @crdo I couldn't believe he climbed the ladder! It's been down before... Argh. How funny that yours does it too! We now adopt your strategy to avoid this:

  • @shannonrnbsn my mom bought our crib for our first daughter, and my in-laws have offered to buy the arm's reach co-sleeper we chose for this baby. BUT...no one ever said, "it's tradition," nor had it even occurred to me that some considered it as such until you asked this question. I just thought they were being really generous!
