Anterior Placenta

Re: Anterior Placenta

  • It looks like I am back in the anterior placenta club! I am kinda disappointed actually, knowing this will be my last pregnancy never experiencing those alien hands and feet. (JK of course) I am super happy I got to see little one and everything looked good, I will get my NT results in a bit in the mail, as it looks like my doctor didn't send me for bloodwork before and had to do it after my ultrasound today.

Had my dr apt tonight and just wanted to give a warning. If you have a dr apt and the dr cannot find the babies heart beat right away try not to panic. The heart beat is harder to find/hear with an anterior placenta.

This!! This happened to me at my 16 week appointment on Friday & I was freaking out, they did an ultrasound & said I have an anterior placenta so that's why the Doppler couldn't pick anything up (all was fine)! I too am a bit bummed that it will take longer to feel movement!

  • Looks like I'm joining this club too. Tech just told us today at our screening. Our little peanut was jumping all around and moving their hands and legs like crazy. Heard the heart beat for the first time too which was amazing.

  • Reviving this! After seeing so many posting they are feeling their babies start to move this condition is not helping me any!
I had an anxiety attack last night feeling so worried something is wrong with this LO. I know it's irrational and because of this it will take extra long IF if I'm able to feel something ever but waiting a month for a next appt is so
long when I don't feel any reassurance. Am I alone are do others feel this too?

  • Not sure if this helps, but I'm a FTM, I DO NOT have an anterior placenta, I'm very small and have no extra "fluff" or weight on my abdomen, and at 16+5 I haven't felt a thing yet. Just last week I had a Doppler done at my check up and heard heart beat, so I know my little leech was still doing well then. Also, only had one quick u/s way back at 9 weeks from a scary bleeding episode, so I've never seen any movement either. I totally know how it feels to think something must be wrong. I keep telling myself that maybe I'm not feeling it because I assume it's gas bubbles, etc. I suppose we just have to hang in there.

  • @Lindsayleigh1989 I am feeling the same way. I'm so excited for everyone but in the back of my mind I'm saying holy crap is something wrong. I know I have the anterior placenta and extra fluff so it will take longer but still. But nope you are not alone. At all
  • @Lindsayleigh1989 I'm 16 weeks 3 days and I haven't felt a thing yet. And no one has even mentioned my placenta to me at any ultrasounds, so I assume there's nothing special about it.

My sister is having twins and is almost 20 weeks. She just felt them yesterday.

I had an anterior placenta the first time. I didn't feel anything until 20ish weeks. the rest of the pregnancy I maybe felt 1 or 2 kicks a day even. It was another reason for extra anxiety for me! People kept talking about feeling the baby rolling...nope, I had none of that. I had a c section too and no one even mentioned any extra risk. Everything was just fine.
  • Yep, I had an anterior one last time and I didn't feel anything until about 20 weeks. I have an anterior one this time, too. No worries :)
  • @Lindsayleigh1989 Not alone!!! (((hugs)))
  • Thanks Ladies I appreciate it :) I'm trying to not buy a Doppler because I know it just make me even more crazy! Glad we are in it together!

Don't buy one, mine made me more neurotic. I don't have it anymore and it is much better.

I'm 16+4 and I haven't felt anything either except sharp pains every so often. So unless my baby is shanking me, I haven't noticed anything. I'm not sure if i have an anterior placenta but my OB hasn't mentioned it so I'm guessing it's just not time yet. I have a doppler which I use once a week and it has helped with my anxiety but i understand it possibly being anxiety provoking if you couldn't find the heartbeat.
  • @Lindsayleigh1989 You're all good, we promise! Movement this early, even minus an anterior placenta, isn't as common as the board might make you think.

How far along are you exactly? (Just fyi, you might have a ticker, but if so I can't see it, not sure if it's my browser, but I only ever see a broken jpg in your siggy...).

I know it's hard not to worry, of course. But there's a reason the doctor doesn't have you start doing kick counts until wayyyy later. Echo the thoughts on not getting a doppler, don't worry yourself more.

Totally normal lady, we are just in the we won't feel it until later club. It bums me out too. But be happy to know that later when the non-anterior placenta ladies are in pain from the kicks and jabs that our awesome anterior placentas are protecting us a bit from the crazy gymnastics our babies are doing.
HAH! @Taymiller, I have VERY (not so...) fond memories of my son's butt, feet, and knees in my ribs. Stupid anterior placenta didn't help me with that... damn kid didn't realize he could MOVE DOWN and have more space!

ETA. 15w3d here and I've not felt any movement. I don't think I have an anterior placenta this go-round... but I'm not sure. The subject hasn't come up!

Exciting!!! Everything crossed it goes well.
  • It took a bit longer for me to feel my third and I am 18.5wks with #4 and just barely starting to really feel movement. Had an appt today and confirmed that I have anterior placenta again.

I also have an anterior placenta, been told the same thing as you, but I was also told by a sonographer that placentas can move......not sure how true that is??

Yup they can move, not crazy like but can shift over time:)

It's my understanding that they are implanted so it's not like they can move per say... more like "shift" as the baby grows bigger and bigger
  • What @PinkLady2015 said. I found at my NT scan and mine was low then but she said as the uterus grows with the baby it can shift higher to not be problematic or in the way of the cervix. However it can remain low and if it covers or partially covers the cervix it results in placenta previa.

    Me do, dammit :)
  • How do you know if you have one?
  • @juliagulia38 I was told at my first ultrasound that I had one, they also told me to not expect to feel the baby till way late, and that it would be much harder to find the heartbeat via doppler. My last apt at 18+4 was the first apt where they were able to find it with the doppler at all.
  • **Lurking**

I'm due June 25th (19+5 today) and just found out yesterday at my A/S that I have an anterior placenta. I would have never guessed because we had no trouble finding the heartbeat at the last appointment and I've been feeling strong baby movements for a while now. Sunday (19+1) my DH felt the baby from the outside. My mom, dad, brother, and sister all felt him move this week too. Don't give up hope on your family feeling your LO!!
  • How do you know if you have one?
They will tell you at a ultrasound.

Oh. I've had 3 ultrasounds and no one said anything. I'm having a hard time feeling her but maybe that's because I have extra fat ;)
