Re: Crafty!

  • Yep, run the lights through the back and you've got the same thing for the cost of supplies.

  • @alyssavalentino Starting to speak out here can be a little intimidating, but it's a whole lot more fun once you get used to it ;)
  • @mnkenned I bought a bunch of fabric from https://organiccottonplus.com yesterday.

I was terrified to comment on this board for a while because it was really intense (especially during our first trimester). That said, it's a really supportive group of women who are really sweet (and snarky) and incredibly good resources.

  • I feel like I'm just holding off until next week when I know better what I'm having. I want to use some different fabrics depending.. Hopefully. I'm afraid that they won't cooperate.
  • I wish I was good at using a sewing machine! You guys have some gorgeous projects going on!

One thing I'm planning to repurpose is a couple of old snuggies I got a few years ago when they were popular. Anyone know of any reason why these wouldn't make good cloth diaper wipes? I've seen a lot of blog posts about making cloth wipes from single-ply flannel so I'm guessing it will work?

  • Just a PSA - most of you probably know this but Joanne's has an app where you can find all of their active coupons. I literally just pull it up at the register and they scan them from the phone. There's usually at least a 40% off one item deal.

I made a bunch of cloth wipes from flannel sheets and pillowcases. I'm assuming snuggies are made of flannel? I don't know, u never had one. But if so, then yes!
  • @Pankers Love that jellyfish! It makes me want to do a sea-themed nursery! :)

  • That jellyfish is awesome!  Great job @Pankers
  • @fleurdelakeview that's a great idea.  I was going to be dead lazy, move my daughter out of her room and use the same theme  .  We were gender neutral last time so we went with safari/jungle theme.  We'll be gender neutral again this time.  I guess I could decorate my daughters room.

  • You all have amazing talents! I can't sew or knit, but I like to paint, scrapbook and take pictures. I made a growth chart for DD and baby to share.
  • I am so jealous of you ladies! These projects are all so great. I used to know how to use a sewing machine, but now all I can do is hand-sew. I was planning on doing some burp cloths with some fabric scraps SIL gave me. Most of it's flannel. I sifted through these posts but didn't see anything, sorry if this has been posted on here already- what kind of backing would you use on the flannel? I'm assuming it'd be better to have something than just the fabric itself, especially for a burp cloth.
  • @schaze I backed mine with fleece which is water resistant and pretty thick (though not water proof). I've also heard of using terrycloth or microfiber. Lots of options, anything relatively thick/ absorbent should do.
  • @schaze - I put terry cloth on the back of mine... you can find it in a bunch of different colors or just use an old towel too.
  • @pankers Your jellyfish is so, so cool!!! The craft nerd in me is dying to know if it's crocheted or knitted in garter stitch... And if the pattern is available on Ravelry?
  • I don't have anything to trade but I would totally pay you for some burp cloths. @noelietrex
  • @PleaseSendPicklesNow it is crochet.  It's not on Ravelry, it's from a book.  I'm happy to take photos of the pattern and put it on here (shhhh, don't tell anyone  )

  • @pankers Oh darn... I can't, for the life of me, crochet. But I love your jellyfish so much. Is it going to be part of a crib mobile? I want to join the DIY mobile club!
  • I so want to learn to crochet now!

  • @fleurdelakeview and @PleaseSendPicklesNow , you tube!  Seriously, I learnt most of the stitches there.  A friend taught me how to single and double crochet but I quickly forgot and you tube is still my friend when I have to learn something new.

  • This is so inspirational! You guys are all so talented.  I used to be an avid knitter but this pregnancy has made me lazy AF. All I wanna do is sleep, watch bad reality tv, and lay. Maybe once we know what we are having I will get a little more motivated.

    July16 JULY siggy challenge

  • I have absolutely zero talent for anything artistic/crafty. You guys are awesome!
  • I'd be up for it but some weeks there will be little to no progress   my last BMB had one.

  • @noelietrex Omg I might be a bit late to this thread but that bib and diaper set is adorable. I'm willing to risk the Internet creepiness for one!! I can PayPal you money!!!
  • @DominiqueU It looks great, especially for something a baby is going to throw up on. Just keep practicing!

  • @DominiqueU That looks adorable and also totally functional! If you're worried about your stitching, some machines get touchy, especially with thicker fabrics like fleece. Try adjusting the width of the stitch to be a little wider, and do your best to keep a steady pace (that part takes practice). When I need to turn, I always lift the foot with the needle currently through the fabric so the stitching picks up on exactly the same track and I don't have to worry about lining up the next stitch. Hope this helps! Whatever you do, don't give up!
