Re: **The Everything Random Thread for April Mamas**

  • I have only been summoned once, and it was while I was in college so I was able to be exempt because I lived 2.5 hours away.  As a teacher now, we don't get exempt usually, AND we have to pay the county back the money we make for being there that day.  Our school system says it's double dipping because we get paid for that personal/sick day.  Total BS but whatever!

So I am the sponsor for an Equal Opportunity Acts club at my school called First Priority (it's a Christian group for students on campus). These kids meet in my classroom every Thursday. Its entirely student led, so I normally just sit and half listen, but mostly Bump. So they are in here right now. I'm seriously about to have a conniption. I am super particular about things in my classroom being in neat, organized piles and everything having it's place but sometimes over the course of a few days things get kind of all over the place. So yesterday while my kids were working on an assignment, I was straightening things up as I walked around monitoring their work. EVERYTHING is put away, I have neat piles of every paper they will need today in class (seriously neat piles, like corners matched and everything) and all the things I will need for tomorrow in manila folders, lined up on my teacher lab table. I have kids hopping up on counters, pouring orange juice holding the cups OVER my piles of papers (that are not yet laminated, but even if they were...), setting their backpacks down on top of my papers, and putting cups of Dunkin coffee next to my absent work binder and tests for today. I seriously want to SCREAM at them, but that would not be very good in demonstrating the purpose of this club. But come ON, do they not realize that things are organized for a purpose? :s I swear, if things get ruined I will lose it.

ETA...this has been an issue in the past, someone put their frappucino on my lab table, they were playing silent ball, and the ball went right into the frappucino and spilled it ALL over my room.

  • So funny story... Had a Dr's appointment today, and I made my fiancé come with me. Picture this: I'm in the table, about the get a culture swab, and he's sitting in a chair on his phone. I feel hands on "me" then my fiancé gasps and goes "what the hell is that thing for?" My dr looks at him alarmed and says "it's for the exam. It's very standard" my fiancé's face is white as a sheet so I sit up and see my dr holding a speculum. I started laughing and laid back down. When we were in the car he before I switched gears he started telling me how bad he feels for me for being woman and having to go through medieval torture device procedures for my health, and just held me awkwardly for longer than is normally considered comfortable.

I mean, no one enjoys that, and I personally find the entire experience slightly nauseating every time (my usual Dr uses one sized for younger girls on me and warms it first) but it's just kinda part of the deal. No biggie lol. He was so concerned though!

Haha! My first PAP (as a virgin) the nurse had accidentally set out the giant speculum instead of the small one (which I still get now since I'm just a small person in general) and my old GP felt so bad when she came in and I was staring it down like I was going to die. "Oh honey, I'm so sorry, I'll use these, those are too big"

  • So, I spent the day yesterday at a neuro-opthomalogy clinic, and discovered that what was dismissed by the emergency room as an acephalic migraine back in November was actually a stroke inside my eyeball. I'm super thrilled to discover that this annoying blind spot I've had for nine weeks is probably permanent, and frustrated that they have to pass me off to another clinic.
  • @mojomama6 I don't even have words...I'm so sorry!
  • @mojomama6 that is horrible, so sorry :(

  • I've been AWOL for a while as I haven't had the energy to participate in the threads but I'm here and I try to keep up. Been busy with the maze of questions we have to go through for DHs residence permit application in Sweden before we can apply in Denmark.

Today we recieved an email with additional questions where they almost seemed suspicious of our relationship and requested chat correspondences, photos from different time periods, plane tickets etc to prove we've known each other for 4 years. I get that it's their job but it made me really uncomfortable that they believe our relationship and marriage is fake. So for the past 4-5 hours I've went through all the documentation I could send them, concert tickets, photos from our honey moon, chat conversations on Facebook etc and sent it. Fingers crossed, this goes well. I am sick and tired of this. :s

I'd never really thought of it as a thing, but logically, one can get a clot with tissue death anywhere. My best friend has had several in her kidneys (and one in her brain).
  • I just put in my request for maternity leave. Part of me thinks short term disability won't cover pretty much any of it since I had to be out so long for my broken finger in September... We can't afford for us not to have that income for 6 weeks, and my work won't let me go back to work unless my doctor approves it, which I doubt will happen before 6 weeks... Plus I don't want leave my baby so early... I don't have enough PTO to cover the 6 weeks, since my work only gives us 1.5 hours of PTO every week, and this kid came out of left field. I have almost 40 hours saved already, but that only gets me through one week of my time off...

I'm so tired of stressing out... I know my job is at least covered for the time that I'll be out because Oregon gives you an additional 12 weeks of protection if you have a baby and already had to use the 12 weeks of FMLA on an injury or illness...

  • @elasticheart13 I understand that they need to verify, but that would feel so invasive. Hope everything sorts out quickly!

@elasticheart13   This totally sucks! Although you should not feel discriminated against, as this is quite standard during immigration processes in most countries (as you can imagine there are tons and tons of people who illegally immigrate on the basis of fake marriages).

My husband is Canadian and when I moved to Canada 2.5 years ago, I started the process to become a Permanent Resident. Mind you, I would have qualified on the basis of my occupation alone, but we went through the spousal sponsorship route as it would be quicker (and it was). As part of the application they asked me to send pictures of my husband and I, which I did and included wedding pictures.

A few months later they requested additional pictures. They were quite specific and wanted to see pictures of us in different cities/ countries (as to demonstrate that we are actually a couple who travel together, and not just a fake couple who poses for fake pictures for immigration purposes).... Since my husband and I are quite the travel enthusiasts, I then proceeded to flood the immigration office with countless pictures of my husband and I all over the US, Brazil, Canada and Europe over the previous 10 years . hahaahaha. It was my way of getting back to them. It must have worked as they approved my Permanent Residence in no time. :)

I have a brazilian friend in the US who is also a doctor, married a US doctor, and when she applied for her green card not only did she have to submit photos, but also love letters and love emails they had exchanged over the years. Can you imagine?!?
  • @AmadorRose DH was pretty upset about it and kept saying that it was a violation of our privacy haha, he was so pissed about the chats we had to show them. He's a very private person so I get it, but I just want this over with so I sent them 20 pages of documentation. This better be enough!

@NOLA520 Yeah, I know a lot of people have pro forma relationships in order to get residency permits here but it feels so invasive.

We just need them to accept our application so we can apply to move back to Denmark. We don't really need them to grant him residency, but give him a legal basis to stay while the Danish application is running I am feeling optimistic and fingers crossed this nightmare will be over before LO is here. :)

  • @thaisac1 we are going through the spousal sponsorship route as well and I completely flooded them with pictures today from different music festivals we have attended together, Halloween parties (where I was much skinnier so it's pretty obvious it was from a different time) and different countries we visited so I can in no way imagine they would doubt our relationship after this :#

And we were asked to show love letters as well and love emails, which is what made DH freak out. We even had to show them how many wedding guests we had. It's quite outrageous but I'm hoping the stuff I sent today was more than enough.

  • So, one of my really good friends works at the same company as me (in a different department, but very nearby to mine). She's been out for over a week, "sick". And missed an entire week right after Christmas as well. She may actually be sick, but this time struck me as odd because we had dinner with her last Tuesday night and then she's allegedly had the flu since Wednesday (DH and I both shared food/drinks with her at dinner and she was fine, and neither of us got sick...something smells fishy). She's been barely responsive to my texts while she's been out, but just texted me to tell me that she's quitting. No reason given but she'll tell me more "later". DUDE YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ME WHAT IS GOING ON.
    image
  • @mojomama6 That's terrible! At least you understand what is going on now versus never. Hopefully they can figure SOMETHING out for you... I'm also hoping that even if it is permanent, it's not a terrible blind spot.

@elasticheart13 As tedious as it is to have to submit all of that, I would have fun with it. Can you send them a scrapbook or something? :D

  • @mojomama6  Oh no, that sounds terrible, I'm so sorry! I really hope this new clinic can give you some additional information/assistance.

@elasticheart13  sounds very invasive, yet pretty standard to prove it's not a sham. I'd like to think that your privacy would remain intact however, sending them all the information that you did, so I hope the best for you guys and that this is it!

@AEG84 Yikes! hope it's not for a bad reason that she's leaving cuz she's doing it in quite an avoiding way....

@imrachellea hilarious! While some MAY feel some sickness, it's definitely the power of suggestion overall! Those poor gals better toughen up!
  • I feel so cynical right now. So I was lurking on the O16 board as they are the newest board with actual real participants. They did a check in 3 days ago and were asking each other about symptoms. Most of them are all saying how they're tired, nauseas, trying not to throw up, dizzy, etc etc etc...I'm like, DUDE you guys are 4-4.5 weeks along. It is SO RARE to actually have symptoms that early. Power of suggestion and suck it up, because seriously? What's coming?

    ETA:...because their =/= they're...

Especially the ones complaining of horrible back pain. Oh my. They have no idea.

  • @ladylolly89  @imrachellea  back pain???? Ok now that's too far!  I bet they are even doing the preggo waddle for attention already!
  • @thaisac1 @elasticheart13 so the interview portions at the end of The Proposal weren't exaggerated, eh? :D

@AEG84 I was fine Saturday night, shared food with family, and got *violently* ill on Sunday/Monday. Nobody else showed any symptom of anything questionable.. so, it's technically possible I suppose.
  • I love penguins!!
OMG I never really thought about looking at other boards! I lurk on the J16, F16 to see baby announcements and whatnot, but never comment or like because I feel like they'd be all "who is this random drive-by"  but OMG at the 2nd tri drama! I need popcorn for that shit!

@elasticheart13...if they want to get all invasive, I say you should share some suggestive photo! That would be hilarious! But seriously, I hate that you guys are going through all that, adding to life stress right now.  Fingers crossed it all gets completed and accepted and you can get back to Denmark and have a happy delivery there!

Nevermind the fact that I have my 1-hour glucose test at 9 tomorrow morning.....mama wants what mama wants! And mama doesn't eat crappy all the time.  GIMME DA JUNK FOOD!!

    @yodiggity

I just had the Daim chocolate McFlurry and it was heavenly.

  • @NOLA520 now I want some. I've been craving pastries for the past few days but I've stuck to the healthy diet DH and I started on after my surgery. Give me da sugar! >:)

  • @jonesl12 got my package from lush today - the sympathy for the skin lotion feels incredible and I'm waiting for DH to leave so I can try the mask of magnaminty. Eeek! Is this what it's like to feel like a girl?
Have you ever used their beer shampoo? It's my favorite product of theirs! I wish it was cheaper so I could use it more often!
  • Ugh, now I want a sundae with hot fudge. DH and I are trying to not go to the store or eat out during the week so we can save money. Anyone have an easy homemade hot fudge recipe??

Oh sweet lord. I just bought this cheese Danish LAST NIGHT. It's like the size of my forearm. After I had one from Starbucks with lunch yesterday. I seriously cannot stop myself. Why are these things so damn delicious?!
I don't understand cheese Danish. Is it like a sweet pastry with savory filling? Why would you eat that? I can't even bring myself to try it.

Yeah it's called something like Sylvia Stout. It did good things for my crazy hair and it has just enough beer smell to be pleasant and not weird.

A girl I used to go to school with washed her hair 1x a week with actual beer, but then it smelled like beer for several days and she was 19ish at the time. I think your way is better.
