  • fabric.com can be expensive, but sometimes they also have great deals. I think I'm getting our curtain fabric from there because woodland creatures fabric that's what I want is hard to come by at Jo-Anns for some reason. I may or may not have just spent an hour just looking at everything.

Oh I'm copying your woodland critter mobile idea next- since we have the same theme, Ill share my projects if you share yours! Let me know if you find any cute branch furniture. DH wants branches holding up book shelves but they've all been pricey... You should DM me your Pinterest and we could swap boards and compare notes
  • This is all so cute!

I've not made much yet, but I am planning on doing a mobile, a transition bed, and cloth wipes. To start! I'm also painting the stroller I bought on craigslist because it's all sun faded, but I think it's going to be a few coats and a week or two of chunks of work.

  • Highly annoyed with this stupid tree. Not enough to do it over, but blanket stitch is hard with these angles. Boooo.

I crochet as well. I'm not that great but I enjoy it. I made dd a hat. I also make those fleece tie blankets. I can't sew. :( I wish I could.
  • @noelietrex I love those burp cloths!!  @SaraC381 did you use a pattern for the car seat cover, I'd love to make one of those!

Is there a purpose to the orange rings @noelietrex ? I'm going to make burp cloths once the craft room is up and going. They look cool, wasn't sure if there was  a practical reason for them

My thinking was, babies love to hold the loop tags on things like blankets and stuffed animals. These loops look great for baby to play with!

@Pankers   This is what I based mine off of.  https://www.imperfecthomemaking.com/2012/01/tutorial-hooded-car-seat-blankies.html  I made the slats for the harness straps longer so that it would fit in a toddler carseat as well.  I made some with flannel and the batting like she used in her tutorial, but they are fairly hot!  I live in Atlanta....it's doesn't stay that cold for that long down here.  I did make some with cotton fabric with a piece of muslin in between for cool fall or spring days.  I think I used 1 1/4 yards.  You can also sew large pockets in the corners where there hands would go when they get bigger so they can wrap themselves.

What @givemepenguinss said- I think they're supposed to be for the baby to play with. I've heard them called "taggies" and added to lots of DIY baby toys. I only added them to 2 for playing. I'm planning to reuse these burp cloths as prefolds for cloth diapers once the baby is bigger and the taggie ones won't be useful for that. Always trying to save a buck ;)
  • @PleaseSendPicklesNow That is absolutely adorable!!!! I would trade you so many newborn cloth diaper covers for one!
  • @PleaseSendPicklesNow OH MY WORD THAT'S ADORABLE

  • I made DD a crocheted blanket when I was pregnant with her. I'm starting to learn how to make hair bows from ribbon for her. I never thought I'd be the mom that liked bows. Lol
  • @jlgriff11 and @noelietrex and @SaraC381 , you are amazing crafting machines! Wow! I was feeling so inspired by all of you, that on Thursday night I cast on this tiny little baby kimono top. It just came off the needles, and it still needs buttons and blocking and seaming, but I like it. It's newborn size, and the itt-bitty cuteness makes me want to squeeeeeee!

And I LOVE the way my husband is making lovey dovey eyes at it. I think he's getting excited about the baby. <3

    I wanttttt oneee! That's adorable!
  • @noelietrex anthropology has some cute branch nobs for dresser pulls, but you may be able to find them at a big name home store for cheaper possibly
  • @PleaseSendPicklesNow That is the cutest little sweater ever! Now I need to find a crochet version
  • I keep meaning to post on this thread but get sidetracked. I love all the ideas. @jlgriff11 I'm totally making a mobile because of you. Our nursery will be Batman themed and you can't buy much in that category so I have to make all the things.
    Current backlog:
Cushion covers for glider ($30 used!)
    Batman mobile
    Crochet blanket
Cloth diapers (sewing skill needs work)
The rest of it hasn't been started yet so I can't call that backlog. I'm a very slow worker.
  • @PleaseSendPicklesNow Would you share the pattern for that kimono? I need it. I think it'll push my knitting skills to the limit, but I am willing to take on the challenge.

  • @elenabrent that turned out great!

  • I'm going to start crocheting a baby blanket once I find out what we are having!

Also I make tie blanket I know not amazing or crafty but I'm going to make a couple for tummy time and use super soft fleece. I'd love to be a part of the craft swap if people would want one.

  • @Lindsayleigh1989 thanks!! I'm really happy with it. A lot better than the muddy poop brown it was.

  • @elenabrent Excellent thank you! And thanks, the Bruce Wayne vibe is totally accepted!

  • How sad is it that I want to buy the book for the pattern. I can't even knit but it's so cute!

@noelietrex I've been meaning to buy a sewing machine so that I can tackle some of the projects I want to do. I am COMPLETELY overwhelmed by the options. Can you make a recommendation? I want something sturdy and well made that will last. I'd rather invest in something that will be good to me for a while than buy a $60 starter machine that'll crap out quickly.

  • @elenabrent I love the bat-stroller!
  • I've seen converse style baby booties on ravelry. One day, a million years from now, that's going on the list.

@elenabrent - I have a Brother machine - a pretty basic one that can do a bunch of stitches. I think it was $100-200 and works great for blankets, crafts, clothes, pillows, etc.
  • You guys are so creative!! I wish we lived in the same city and could meet up to have craft time!
  • @elenabrent I own this one and purchased it from Amazon for the $65 price. It's worked great for 3 years and there are lots of tutorials available on Youtube for this exact machine. Also it has 25 different stitch options that I really like to keep things interesting, plus some of them work great for faux-serger edging (though to be fair this can be done with any machine with a regular and zigzag option). https://www.amazon.com/Brother-XL2600I-Affordable-25-Stitch-Free-Arm/dp/B000F7DPEQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1453741376&sr=1-4&keywords=sewing+machine

Baby booties are going to start filling my house!

I need these in my life

  • You guys are a bad influence! I am buying a sewing machine and I've never sewed in my life! I've spent the morning on pinterest pinning burp cloth ideas. Soooo productive today.
  • First of all, little knitted baby booties that look like boat shoes are basically the best thing ever. Second, @bunkie999 I am very embarrassed by my shoddy stitch job looking at how awesome yours are!
