Ugh. My husband finally got this gross skin tag removed off of his back that has been there since we've started dating. Now we have to clean and re-bandaid last night and he is being a whiny b**** about "old band aids". They are less than a year old! Band aids don't have expiration dates. I'm happy to help him as its on his back but he won't shut up about it. Tonight I told him that even if he goes to the store to get new ones, (which he could do and I wouldn't complain!) there's no guarantee how long they've been on the shelf and could be plenty old as well. He laughed at me and told me I should stop before I sound more stupid because I don't know how stores work. Aargh!!

Damn, if bandaids expired, then my first aid kit in my car would be totally useless by now! I've only had it in there for about 10 years...kudos to you for being so helpful, my mom had a mole removed from her back while my dad was away in business and it wasn't very fun to do the bandaging for that.

  • Thanks-deal, @mkemommy. Will share when it's done ;) You should totally AW a pic of your awesome new reno'ed bathroom when it's done, too! Also, your mocktail recipe sounds delish.
  • Thank you @Sgoldberg247 ! I'm going crazy over here bc I was too embarrassed that we were arguing about this to complain to anybody I know irl.
  • Ha!  Will do @crdo - it should be finished before baby makes her appearance...hopefully.  ;)  Our plumber flaked on us so now we have to hire a new one.  Thankfully the powder room reno on the main floor (we have a ranch) will be done in another weekend I think because we didn't need a plumber to move pipes there.  I'll tell you, going to the bathroom (ALL the time...thanks baby) in the basement in the middle of winter = no fun.

Ohhhhhh man. Hope you guys find a good plumber soon! Best of luck finishing up that powder room--no more basement trips!

    Isn't home improvement.....fun? :D
  • Bahahahaha. I wouldn't say that 24 inches is crazy ridiculous (but mine were 19.25 and 20.5, so....), but 12 lbs? UGH.

My siblings and I were all well above 9lbs, my youngest sister was over 10lbs. My DH and his brother were over 9....

All of us are now tiny freaking people with the tallest man at 5'9", and the 10lb sis topping out at 5'1" and 125lbs as an adult! I've remained adamant that I'm popping out a 7lb7oz appropriately sized baby-person. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Desperately.
  • My son was 8lb 12oz but was 23" long. This made him underweight for his length! The nurses hadn't had a baby that long at our hospital. He's still tall like his daddy.

    @DeePaddy24 :

Ugh, poor lady.  I was 9lb and 22 inches long at birth (and 5'4"/5'5" now) and H was over 10lb and almost 24 inches (and 6'3" now).  Our siblings were equally big/tall.  Neither of our moms had GD either.  I was shocked (pleasantly so) for our A/S that the doctor said our baby girl was in the 54 percentile for weight...she didn't mention height though.  H's mom is about 5'6"/5'7" and my mom is 5'2".  My mom had to do C/S with both me and my sister but H's mom had him naturally...how, I don't know.

*Question* - how accurate are those percentile/birth weight and height estimates (in the womb vs at birth)?

ETA  - My question wasn't clear.
  • @mkemommy depends on who you ask and if they are using an accurate chart. Breastfed babies tend to gain rapidly and then plateau at a certain point and formula fed babies tend to grow at a more consistent pace. It also depends on the sex of your baby as well. I really don't take a ton of stock in the charts. My DD was born an average baby and gained rapidly the first 4 months and then hardly gained any weight. She actually went a 3 month period and only gained an oz. She was the 4th percentile. Buy because she was developing normally, eating and hitting all her milestones her doctor wasn't very concerned. We did have to do some weekly weight checks but since she was developing fine otherwise nothing came of it. DS on the other hand was 22 inches at birth and has stayed in the 90th percentile since birth. He is only 2.5 inches shorter than DD. She's 3.5 and he is 16 months.

  • I'm with @fishwife799. I don't pay much attention to the charts. Each person grows at their own pace. Unless your baby is losing and obviously undernourished, I wouldn't worry.
  • My friend (a petite 5'4" woman) was born a gigantic baby. I don't remember the measurements but when they brought her in to her dad after mom's c-section he said "no, this isn't my baby, mine would be a newborn!"

Thanks @fishwife799 and @mamanicoleof3 - I guess my question wasn't clear.  I was curious for those of you who were told your baby is in X percentile in the womb if that is what they ended up being at birth or if the percentile thing was way off.  Not really what happens after birth...though I'm sure that will be a question of mine down the road too.
  • I feel like excessive length wouldn't make delivery any harder, but I don't envy the woman that has a baby that long kicking her in the lungs for months beforehand.
  • What @Emztron500 said. I've heard that USs can be off up to 2 lbs in either direction, but I think the length is pretty objective, so....

I didn't get a percentile, but the doc told me my baby was well over 9lbs on the day I was induced. She was 8. I've heard they can be off +/- 1lb or so. Similar to the early dating ultrasound which has a +/-5ish day accuracy.

I have a gift card for a stupid over priced maternity store (Thyme) and I really need dress pants. I came to the mall. I HATE the mall. Their selection is HORRIBLE. And the one pair of pants that was under $50 they didn't have in my size. I'm so grumpy. I hate shopping for maternity clothes. So I got myself some dill pickle popcorn and I'm gonna sit on the mall bench and judge people for a while.
You just described my exact experience from Friday at Thyme. Also had a gift card...needed dress pants...found 1 pair I liked, & they had none in my size. UGH! That wasn't my first time having it happen with them, either.

I wish I had gotten myself some dill pickle popcorn after the disappointment. Now I know for next time! ;)

  • @mkemommy late ultrasounds are really unreliable for weight estimates. It's kind of a controversial topic because some OBs will recommend a c-section or early induction based on "big babies" but that's NOT a good practice. I have been under midwife care for both of mine so they're pretty laid back about letting what happens happen, so it wasn't anything I ever came across personally. When I got an elective 3D ultrasound at 19 weeks with my first the tech there said it looked like my baby would be about 7 lbs (this was a just for fun thing, not a medical US, though) and she ended up being born at 8 lbs, so pretty close! I had to get a buttload of fluids in labour because I threw up for 10 hours straight early on so her weight may have been a little "inflated" due to her being water-logged, too

@mkemommy my Ob ordered a weight US for DS when I was 38 weeks because my bump so incredibly huge. They also measured my pelvis and made sure I didn't have too much amniotic fluid. My mom almost lost my brother birthing him because of her unusually small frame and his large size.
The weight us came back saying DS was 9 pounds and that my pelvis is very unusually small like my mom. My Ob said they do only take the US measurements lightly since they can be up to 2 pounds off, but she said she knew he would be around 9 (he ended up being 8lb 12oz. My ob offered a c section but she gladly let me try vaginal when I asked. She said that would be safe and that they will intervene if and when it's needed. We did schedule an induction though. I did have to end up having a c section. There was meconium when they broke my water and his head would not push through after 1 hour pushing and 7 hours of labor and they didn't feel comfortable leaving him any longer. He also slipped onto his side at the last second.
So, weight ultrasounds can give you an idea, but shouldn't be used as a definitive answer.

It's so good. Sooooooo good. Do you have Smartfood popcorn in the US? They have a dill pickle flavour now. It's deeeelicious (I'd put even more dill seasoning on it if I could but I'm obsessed).
  • I'm already having pubic bone pain. It's gonna be a long 5.5 months.

  • @CourtJack I just popped into Thyme to buy some baby accessories that they had marked down to 50% off -- I got an a Philips Avent sterilizer w/ some bottles and some other stuff for super cheap. If they still have stock, maybe you could use your gift card towards that.

Thanks for the tip! I may have to. I'm going to try a bigger Thyme store on the other side of town also. I really need pants! Haha :)
  • Does anyone else get crabby for absolutely no reason? Because I'm sitting here, crabby and irritable and no reason to be. I should live in a bubble alone for the next 5 months or so...but please tell me I'm not alone!
  • @junebabyjoy You're definitely not alone. But unfortunately for my husband, that's an all-the-time symptom for me, so I can't blame pregnancy hormones for that.
  • @junebabyjoy- happens to me a lot, too.

So DD just turned on a show she hasn't watched since I was super sick with MS. The theme song made me want to puke.
  • Wind chills give us a real feel -25 today. Well I don't see any point in changing out of my PJs!
I have now had this cold for two weeks and it is getting seriously annoying at this stage.
I may have also eaten my body weight in French fries over the weekend!

  • My apartment building is getting a new emergency backup electrical system today. That's cool but it means the power will be off for 2 hours this morning :( I work from home so that's going to be a big pain in the ass. Hopefully the weak natural light coming through the clouds today is enough to help me get some cleaning done.
  • @WinniethePoohsPants- I'm dying at your description. I couldn't agree more. And then why ask random internet strangers for their opinions?!
