Does anyone else have boobs that don't leak? I keep reading about people leaking or spraying milk, but that doesn't happen for me. I assume it means nothing other than I'm lucky, but wondering if there's a chance this will change when I go back to work and am pumping vs feeding on demand? Don't want to be leaking at work!!
I always leaked with my first, but this time around I've never leaked and my supply is way greater because DS2 is much chunkier and eats way more than DS1 did. But I've noticed that if we go longer between feeds than normal my left side will "spray" if he unlatches while eating and that never happened with DS1. Breastfeeding can be weird at times.
The past twenty four hours or so my right boob has been having issues. She seems to be swallowing ok and not yanking off crying when she feeds on that side so that is good. But it has felt slightly engorged even after she feeds (10-12 minutes) and the time between the feedings is not enough to bring on engorgement. It also looks like the areola is almost lopsided now. Like its raised on the right side. I'm not in pain and don't really have other symptoms just the uncomfortableness or slight fullness that doesn't go away. Is this a clogged duct you think? Anyone else experience this?

Is there a hard, painful spot or spots? If so that could be the clogged duct. Massage it even though it will killll while baby is feeding. If not, try heating pads, lean forward and massage them in the shower, try cold canbage leaves, etc.
@helloaustin123 you might want to also try feeding more from that side. I had what I think was a clogged duct on the left and so rather than alternating start sides I always started with left until the hard spot went away. I also massaged during feeding and in the shower. I also read that a bath or soaking the breast in Epsom salts is good. Not sure how you would disk just a breast but I'm sure the bath would be nice. Good luck
Can the flu tank your supply? I feel like LO is needing to nurse longer than usual right now and I'm hanging out feeling miserable with what seems like the flu (103 temp, aches, chills, headache, fatigue, sore throat).....
Do I need to be worried or will my milk supply bounce back when I get better?

It can. I would get into your doctor to see if it really is the flu and get Tamiflu immediately. It'll make you feel better right away if it is the flu. Keep nursing and your supply should go back. It'll also keep your baby protected.
I got the flu when my daughter was 11 months old (despite having the shot) and she never did catch it. I was still nursing and just kept on going and didn't have any supply issues.

Tamiflu is not very effective, based on studies it only decreases flue symptoms by 12 hrs and only if taken in thr first 48hrs. On top of being pretty expensive majority of patients experience unpleasant side effects like diarrhea and headaches. It is a virus so there is really nothing that will shorten the illness, just symptomatic relief.

Interesting. It made me feel better after 2 doses and I felt like death.
We had a horrendous bout of flu last year-For me I had a rough kind of pit when taking tamiflu but 24 hours later felt tired but tons better. My husband however had a tough time keeping it down, he said it helped when he could get past the nausea however. Maybe it just depends on a persons constitution?
LO refused a bottle from me today for the first time. I've given her bottles before without issue, but we usually nurse when we're together, so it's been a while since I gave her one. I thought at first that it wasn't the bottle, so I changed her and tried again, but without success. She settled right in when I offered a breast, though.
@urby87 I'm going through this too. At 8 weeks all of a sudden he refused the bottle. We give him one every night now to help him get used to it. He screams and it takes an hour but he's getting better. Yesterday was day 5 and he figured it out in 30 minutes. I go back to work soon so I want him to be used to the bottle, my plan is to increase to 2 bottles and keep going from there
GERD! They think my baby has GERD! I know I shouldn't be excited but just to have an answer to all the screaming every hour of everyday and breastfeeding issues is relieving. They see us tomorrow for confirmation and med discussion.I know specifically that @Elyse1384 has been through this, but for others that have been through this, is there hope to re establish breastfeeding at this point ( it's been a month since real successful feedings)? Also, should I have to give up dairy- how long does a diet change need to happen before it takes effect in breastmilk?

LO does this too if I don't give her at least one bottle a day.
So, I'm 10weeks postpartum and EBFing...I'm pretty sure my period started today! I was bleeding during my 5th week and now it's back...we were having BFing issues and I was EPing...has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal? Everyone else I know who BF got like 9 more months without a period! I'll probably be calling my midwife later but wantd to just see if this was happening to anyone else!
@jdal1206 completely normal. Not everybody who breastfeeds will get a period but not everybody won't get one. That's why they tell you breastfeeding isn't a good form of birth control.

I had a little bit of spotting for a day or so and then yesterday my period started. I am almost 10 weeks PP and mostly Breastfeeding. Sometimes I have to pump depending on when he eats and sleeps, and we have supplemented at times if I can't keep up with his feedings. I was hoping it would stay away for longer but I think mixing in pumping and formula feeds has thrown that plan off. Oh well!
@jdal1206 I'm 7 weeks PP, EBF and I started my first period the day before my 6 week PP check! My last baby, I EBF until I went back to work then pumped when we weren't together and didn't get my period back until 8 months PP (and then didn't have another period until LO was 14 months old!). I guess it's just different for every person/pregnancy!

I don't know what's going on lately, baby is 10 weeks, until recently she was nursing great, gaining slowly but consistently and having plenty of wet/poopy diapers. Now she cries when I put her to my breast during the day s lot of the time, will latch and unlatch or rub her face around; there's definitely milk in there as I'll hand express a little so she doesn't have to work as hard at first. Been supplementing with 50/50 pumped milk and formula when she does this as she still seems hungry after intermittently nursing. The weird thing is that it's so random, only sometimes during the day and she never has a problem at night. Someone here was recently dealing with a nursing strike, wondering if maybe that's it?
I also started back to work about three weeks ago and balancing pumping at work is very difficult so I'm a little worried that my supply has decreased.
I'm considering supplementing more as this has been really frustrating and I'm finding it really upsetting, which surprised me as I didn't think I would care one way or the other when I was pregnant.
@bellie1223 this sounds like what I was going through. I would definitely get in to see a lactation consultant for a weighted feed. My baby was hardly getting anything while nursing and I had no idea because I could hand express and she had plenty of wet/dirty diapers. I thought it was a nursing strike and it would pass so I would continue to coax her to the breast and she would eventually nurse for 30 minutes per side. I only knew my supply was low when at her 2 month wellness check her weight gain had slowed. On the other hand a nursing strike could also decrease supply. It's the chicken or the egg kind of situation. Either way I would get in to see a LC soon and that way you'll know for sure and can make a plan.
Thanks @doodleoodle, I thought you were the one with a possible nursing strike. LC is excellent advice, there's only one here in town my insurance covers and I really did not like her, but I may need to bite the bullet and go back. We just had our two month check up and everything was great, but she also only recently started this behavior, so frustrating!
For anyone that has returned to work and is pumping a couple times a day - do you have multiple sets of pump parts or are you cleaning them at work? I just can't see myself cleaning them at work so assuming I need to buy enough pump parts to get me through my pumping sessions.

So, one thing I have researched (and done myself) is that you can put the parts right in a bag, right in the fridge without cleaning. Just like with stored bottles, the flanges and everything else will remain in the safe zone bacteria wise. I do that through out the day and just bring them home to wash. Also I've been rocking a steam bag to use if I'm on a double or need to pump more or do longer stretches.

I have a sink in my classroom, so I rinse my parts out. I also use the Medela quick clean wipes. Then, I really wash and clean everything when I get home.

I rinse and use a microwave sterilizing bag at work and then take them home and clean them well.

I place my parts in the fridge in a ziploc as pp mentioned. Just be careful that no breastmilk from inside the ziploc gets into the tubing port because that can contaminate your tubes! (Found that out the hard way!)

This is what I did when I pumped for DS. I also had multiple sets, so I could pump in the morning and take a clean/dry set to work.

Any mamas been sick while breastfeeding? I have a terrible cold/flu and I am faithfully breastfeeding through it but gosh it's rough when all I want to do is curl into a fetal position. Any tips on how to make it a little easier?

I will be in the car pumping a lot. With DD I had the clean up wipes from Medela to wipe them down and then stored them in the cooler. I also kept a microwave bag cleaner in my desk for when I was there to pump. I then cleaned them when I got home. You can store them in the fridge or cooler bag and not clean after each session.
Loving the advice about cleaning while at work. Don't know why it didn't occur to me that I could put in fridge without having to rinse every single time.
Little 9 week old lady of mine started daycare on Tuesday. I went back to work yesterday. I can't tell if she's overstimulated/exhausted or getting lazy on me-- Tuesday's nursing sessions once we were home weren't bad but they definitely weren't good and then last night she had a full blown fit of constant screaming. Would barely latch, then unlatch, and kick and cry over and over again. The only thing that calmed her was a bath but was still upset afterward. I tried skin to skin and swaddling but nothing soothed her and she never latched on to eat. She eventually passed out from crying so much. The middle of the night feedings went much better and with little to no fight.
Anyone else experiencing this? Is this just growing pains of a new schedule that will pass soon? Any advice on how to remind her that she has to work harder when she's with me?

I'm getting over strep and have been nursing through 103°+ temps and barely being able to swallow. I would have had DH give LO a bottle every now and then but all my freezer stash is bad thanks to our water I washed my pump parts in. And it's better for LO to nurse so he gets the antibodies and doesn't get sick.
DH helped me a ton - I sat in our recliner and took LO to feed him then handed him back to DH for burping and everything else. I also nursed lying in bed so I could curl up.
Being sick and taking care of another human is no fun! Feel better soon mama!!

I had a 24hr bug and honestly the only thing that helped was having my husband there to help. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Hang in there Moma. Keep up on your water and try pedialite if you're throwing up a lot
For those of you whose LOs are starting to sleep longer chunks at night, any suggestions on avoiding an engorgement/overfeeding situation? Kiddo is starting to do a 5-7 hour stretch pretty regularly, and boy am I engorged by the time she wakes up. It's like a damn fire hose. I've tried slowing her down with a nipple shield, hand expressing before the feed, and even pumping an hour before the feed (just enough to take the edge off), but she still has an epic spew right after!
Re: Breastfeeding Questions/Support/Learnings Go Here
Couldn't resist posting... I love that milk drunk look Jackson gets when he's had a good feeding, so damn funny

Sweet Googly-moogly I hope this is it.
Edit: fixing a sentence.
Edited because I can't spell these days
