What do you all think about sports drinks? I've never really "believed" in them for mild to moderate exercise but I got a migraine yesterday after doing my 30ds video the night before. I'm sure my migraines are excercise and probably dehydration induced. I try to drink enough water but it's obviously not enough and this migraine was pretty fucking awful so I would be willing to chug some Gatorade to avoid it. So, do sports drinks actually hydrate better than water and what are your favorites?
I'm no scientist, but I only use sports drinks (Gatorade or similar) when I run longer than 15 miles. When I need salt and glycogen to replenish my muscles.
So I don't think they are more hydrating. I think they work to replace glycogen/carbs.
I'd drink more water throughout the day. Maybe a few pretzels for the salt.
ETA--I also use sports drinks when racing a half marathon or longer.
I agree with PP. If I'm running long distances I physically NEED gatorade! Running that much depletes everything in me and I feel like I've been hit by a truck. But when I'm doing low impact workouts or short runs water normally does the trick.
Ya'll are motivating me. Once I get these pinched nerves in my back sorted out, I have got to get some weight off. I know I can do it because I lost 30 pounds before I got pregnant simply by cutting out bread, white potatoes, and pasta. I'm not big into exercising, but I would like to try some yoga. Also ready for warm weather so I can drag out my kayak. I've never had great core strength and pregnancy and a c section didn't improve matters. Ya'll are right, though about winter making it hard. I don't want salad, I want soup or pasta. I'm eating like a horse because of the dang steroids they put me on for my back.
@KarasTwin I've gotten really into yoga in the past couple of months. I feel like it really helps with my anxiety and I've lost a few pounds.
I think it would help my anxiety, too. I have a DVD I need to get out. Plus, we have a smart tv, so I could get online and find videos. Also considering looking for an inexpensive stationery bike.
@423ang Try Moving Comfort. They aren't cheap but they will eliminate any bounce. I only have one that really fits currently and I call it my bullet proof bra.
@423ang Moving comfort Juno Bra has always been my go to when breastfeeding. Right now I am loving Zensah's newest bra https://www.zensah.com/women/women-bras/gazelle-high-impact-sports-bra.html More comfortable and easier to put on but still really good support. I'm a 34C-D but have to control a lot of bounce, I was definitely a 34DD+ for a while and it caused some issues. If you are bigger I'd feel safe recommending the Juno bra. I work in sports specialty retail. These are definitely a lot better than vs options.
I've read about the Juno before. Do you think I can self measure, or should I try to get fitted? I'd probably have to drive at least 1.5 hours (Madison) to find a shop that does fittings. At the moment, I'm a 38DDD. I'm used to being a 36C, so I bought by sports bras in size Medium in the past. Those don't fit anymore.
Also, not sure how long this will be my size, so I don't know if it's worth it to splurge now or save the money and make do for now. And buy a good one (or more) when I'm done breastfeeding. Thoughts?
I have the moving comfort rebound bra and love it. I felt that the straps on the Juno were really short and I couldn't fit it over my large chest! (32G).
@423ang That's why I only have 1 that really fits. I can shoehorn the ladies into my smaller ones, but not for long runs. I could justify one, but not several.
For your size, I would go with the Juno. Check their website for sizing. I would think you could buy online without a problem. I thought they ran true to size and they have adjustable straps.
Mind if I ask (generally) where you're at? Only because I grew up 1.5 hrs from Madison.
@423ang Yes but we drive up I-39 when we go back to visit family and DH's grandparents are from Dixon. A trip to Madison would at least be a good excuse to get beer.
I'd get a 38DD and you may be able to use it later. The straps are adjustable. My 34C fit well when I was bigger, it seems big now. I personally wouldn't wait but my boobs are super sensitive. It's cold out though, can you layer two bras? I often layer two of the lighter support bras and that feels good. FYI you can resell on eBay if its still in good shape when you are smaller. I'll be doing this since I was a AA last time I stopped breastfeeding
Thanks ladies! I might go to a store anyway just so I can try them on first. Since it's a pretty big purchase I'd probably feel better not taking a chance.
I really appreciate the help!
ETA--brooks had a few colors on sale ($39!) on their website, so I followed their measurement instructions and ordered 2. I can send them back if they don't fit right. Yay!

We are going to Madison on Saturday for some work on DH's car, but I doubt he wants to go bra shopping.
But, some beer shopping and consumption will certainly be on the agenda.
@JessHeppell I say this with love...... Save that tattoo money and then save some more and move out of your sis's place. You need the freedom more than you need that tattoo.....
I actually live at my parents house, my sister, her boyfriend and their 2 kids rent the basement suite. and the tattoo will be paid for with a gift certificate i got for Christmas
(but I totally get what you're saying/that viewpoint)

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'm trying to schedule water into my day today so we'll see how that goes.
I had to get weighed at the doc's today. I think their scale is off...
I'm looking forward to this weekend! It's supposed to warm up a little and I have a 6 mile run planned! DH wants to run 5, so the dog should be good and tired on Monday.
I decided if I can't stop stuffing my face then I at least need to eat a fresh fruit and a fresh vegetable once per day......... Ugh I'm probably never going to fit in in this thread but I really want to! Where's the motivation?!?!

I'm right there with you! Any healthy choice no matter how small I'm counting!
Ladies....it finally happened. I fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans!!!! <CHOIRS OF ANGELS SINGING>. Full disclosure, they button but there is a slight muffin top situation going on haha. I managed to drop 6lbs this month by doing barre3, short runs (1-2 miles) and eating relatively clean. I will be the first to admit that eating clean is no way to live haha. Although, it helps immensely when trying to lose weight. I still have more to go though so I will forge on.
I tried kale for the first time last week, my BIL sauteed it with olive oil, red pepper flakes, and a dash of seasalt. It was actually really good. I'm going to make it tonight without the red pepper. We're also having baked chicken and sautéed mushrooms. Tomorrow night we'll have chicken Tortilla soup. I've lost 2 pounds since last week by trying to be better. It's easier during the week, but every step towards being healthier counts.
haha the trick with kale is to saute and brown it up a bit. Sea salt, garlic and olive oil. Mmmm. Of course im probably killing all the healthy nutrients but it tastes good!!
Okay!! I'll be honest, I only did a half ass search, but someone talk to me about this subscription workout site...do we love it? What is it called? It was talked about I don't even know when

Are you talking about fitnessblender.com? I love them. It's completely free unless you buy a workout program. I bought an 8 week program that was all workouts under 30 minutes for $9 but don't use it that often bc I just go to the website and search for whatever workout I'm in the mood for. They have hundreds.

If I recall, you're from the opposite direction 1.5 hrs from Madison.

No but in all seriousness way to go @btm013 !!!!!!
I've been stuck at 138-139 for months now. And I only need to lose 7-8lbs to get back to pre-pregnancy weight.
