GTKY baby names

Re: GTKY baby names

  • @JessKo08 Sawyer is my guilty pleasure girl name. I don't think I would ever name my own girl that because I err on the side of traditional when it comes to names and I am not a huge fan of the boy names (or surnames) on girls, but I LOVE Sawyer. Mae was also a choice for a MN if we were having a girl, so I am biased and vote that.

I think it would be nice to name a LO after someone in your family if it's a girl, especially if you plan on more since a future DS or DD would still have an option of a family name coming from your DH, while you'd kind of be SOL if a future LO was a boy and you already names DS1/DD1 after your DH/his family. Hope those ramblings make sense lol.

    Married 10/13/12
    TTC Since 8/2016

  • Mae is our middle name too! Alanna (uh-lawn-uh even though it reads uh-lane-uh, whatever) We have dd1 Adella (uh-del-uh)marie already.

  • We are also not sharing names but DH would like an outside opinion on one we both agreed sounded nice.

    Beatrix Louise

Last name starts with P and is one syllable. We like it because it's close to my grandmas birth name (she's still alive) of Beatrice and his mothers name Mary Lou without it being a direct reference. My grandma has always gone by Betty (so when she was adopted at 5 it was assumed her name was Elizabeth), so there wouldn't be any confusion.

FTR Beatrix was the first name I shared with him back in the first trimester and he hated it then. Now he seems keen on it.
DD: Beatrix Louise aka BeeBop. April 2 2016. H.I.E Warrior <3
  • @JessKo08 I think Sawyer is sweet and like Mae with it more than Henrietta (though I love the name Henrietta). I LOVE Archer, mainly because Archie is my fave boy name and I thought my husband was going to kill me when I suggested Archibald. Lovely choices, and I won't tell, promise. :)

@arcanejinx Beatrix is gorgeous, classic, and unique. As is Louise. Seal of approval from me. :)

  • I'm nearing 30 weeks, and DD still has no name. DH keeps calling her Emma and says that's her name, but I am 100% not okay with that. I've told MIL names that I like, but other than that, I've kept my opinions to myself.

My dad jokingly asked if we were going to pick names from a hat. We all laughed, but I'm totally ready to do it sometime this month or next. DH won't talk names except his 1 choice, so we'll let the Lord intervene. LOL - but, seriously.

Here are my First Name picks to toss into the hat:
Adeline (for a women's chorus I sang with for years.)
    Rosalie (after DH's grandma)
    Rose
    Rosette
    Roxanne (after DH's great-grandma)
    Roxy
  • @bethanynaom Rosalie is an all time fave of mine!

  • @bethanynaom I love Rosalie too!

@JessKo08 Henrietta is awesome. I never hear it used and it's not a "typical" mn, although I like the family significance of Mae too. Sawyer Henrietta sounds like a strong, spunky name. And I like Archer Lawrence over Holden Lawrence. Archer is a bit of a guilty pleasure name for me. :)
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

@JessKo08 love all of your names :) sorry I'm not more decisive, I just can't choose.
@bethanynaom I am with you on Emma! I also love all of your names. Lovely!
@arcanejinx Beatrix Louise is perfect! My top pick for a girl is Margo Beatrix after my grandma that practically raised me (her name is Marjorie Beatrice).
Idk what we will do if we have a boy. Boy names are so difficult!

  • So dh and I have been set on Penelope from the beginning, which like someone said above seems like it's gaining popularity but I have never actually met a Penelope so I'm cool with it and cannot wait to meet our little Penny!!!!
  • My DH likes Claire Elizabeth for our next girl's name. I loved Madeline, but was drawn to Maddie as a nickname. My name is Alex nickname of Alexandra and I just love nicknames for some reason. So, we agreed on Madison (Maddie) and my DH chose the middle name Paige because it was different and I don't know a girl with that name to make me turn away from it. For a boy we liked Elliott James or Bryce Alexander. Did anyone turn down a name because it made you think of a mean person you knew in your past?

I turned down so sooooo many names because I used to be a dance instructor and taught hundreds of little girls and had so many names I was immediately turned off to, I was so surprised I found one both me and the dh loved!  Btw @alxsa24 I love the name Elliot for a little boy, so classy

We liked the name Aaron by itself a lot, but when I thought about the fair number of guys I knew with that name, and realized I didn't really like any of them all that much, it came off the list. Settled on a name that I didn't personally know anyone with.
  • @szabodyn Oh I can imagine that! Seeing different types of personalities that are attached to names. Teachers I'm sure have stories. lol
Thank you :* , that was one of the reasons why I liked Elliott, and James is my DH's father's name. My DH didn't want to have a Jr. He hates his name and hates those traditions.

My list got narrowed down significantly because every time we mentioned a name that we liked, my teacher mom had a story about a student with that name. Our boy name was Nolan, and apparently the worst student she ever had was named Nolan. Makes me wonder if she just hated the name and never knew a kid by it... Luckily, we're having a girl!
  • We struggled so much with a boy's name that we both like.  I love the name Joshua since I was in college but DH hates it.  So far he only agrees to Nicolas and Kennedy.  I also like the name Elliot (Ellie) but that may be because DD's name is Ariella and we call her Ella.  The middle name is going to be a chinese name and we are also working on it.
  • Thank you, we really liked it too, but we decided to change it since apparently no one could pronounce it. Lol!!! The name game. We decided to name our little girl, Luna Raven. :) we really wanted something unique.
  • @irenewslee I like the nickname Ellie for a guy!

This sounds like the ultimate ode to a Ravenclaw loving HP fan. I LOVE Harry Potter, but if that wasn't your intention, it's worth thinking about!

  • We are having a baby boy and are still undecided on the name. We know the middle name will be Michael after my dad who passed away a few years ago. We want the first name to be unique but not toooo out there, which I'm finding is a tough balancing act!

So far our front-runner is Phoenix with a nn of Nix. Other possibilities are Ryder, Everett, Leif (my husband loves but I'm not sold), Sawyer (my pick but husband not sold), or Rowan (again, my pick). So far the name we can agree on the most is Phoenix. Some days I love it; others I'm worried. It would definitely be a shock to some of our more "traditional" friends and fam haha. Gahh boys names are hard!
  • I only know 1 Phoenix, and it's a girl- but I think it goes either way.
  • We still haven't decided on a name.  I told DH yesterday that if we don't come up with one before I go into labor, the kid is going to be named Jameson Whisky.

Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Jose Cuervo...
    The possibilities are endless!! Lol

A coworkers little boy is named Phoenix. She always liked the name but assumed it wouldn't fit but her and her hubby took one look at him and he's a Phoenix. Having been around him the name really does suit him but I think a lot of people did a "really" reaction, but honestly they love it and that's what matters.

  • We've decided on Clark Alexander.....my husband's sister passed away at 38 yrs old from cancer and her married name was Clark so it's a tribute to her (can't name a little boy crystal, lol).....and a little bit to his fave hockey player Wendell Clark too. I have had the girls name Hannah Rose pocked out since I was 18 but I'm on baby #3 with no girl in sight so it looks like I'll never get to use that one
  • @tlackie Clark Alexander is a wonderful tribute. I also love the slight nod to Wendell Clark. We're hockey fans and couldn't name our baby after a current hockey player because what if they end up flaming out spectacularly? What if they get accused of doping?
As a Leafs fan Clark is a classy nod... we joked that if we were to name our baby after a hockey player it'd need to be Gary-Roberts.

Agh! This was so hard for me and my DH to agree on. Finally we chose, Fiona Alise... Now I'm just hoping I don't stay up late thinking too much and want to change it again! I am so indecisive

  • DD is Kenlyn Brooke and DS will be Kainaan Lee Wayne!

We are not traditional spelling people and I have learned that really irritates a lot of people...

  • @shelbibrooke82 I'm definitely a traditionally speller but I'm not snarky about other people's name choices but I literally have no idea how to pronounce Kainaan.. is it like Canaan. Or Like cayenne?
