I beleive 400u of vit D is the dose you need. Different formulations have different concentrations. I use a concentrate that has 400u per drop. Easy to place on my nipple once a day before feeding.
Oh that sounds way better and easier than using the syringe...maybe I'll ask my pedi about this option...currently he prescribed 1ml a day, we started this at 1 week old and LO weighed 7lbs 30z
We have used the same drops since she was a week old. Baby Ddrops is the brand and you can get them from amazon!

Yep, this is what we use as well. The pediatrician gave us a couple sample size bottles with fifteen drops each, one drop per dose. She said you can get it at Walgreens but I've also seen it at Fred Meyer.

I also use Baby DDrops (purchased on Amazon) and they are great! Just one drop on your nipple once a day!
Question for working moms who pump and EBF - I am going to need to travel for work after maternity leave once I'm back (2 night away.) My son will about 4 months by then. How can I pump enough and freeze enough for that stretch of time to make sure he has enough breastmilk? Then of course I'll need to bring the pump with me so I can pump to keep supply while away, and then figure out how to transport breastmilk especially through security at the airport when I'm flying home.

I pump after he nurses, and at night. I believe they have to let your breast milk through security in a cooler. You can look it up with your airline, but a friend of mine travels once a month and she was able to transport her milk.

I agree add an extra daily pumping session now, so you can build up a freezer stash. When I pumped for DS I traveled, but had a big enough freezer stash that I just dumped what I pumped while traveling instead of bringing it thru airport secury. A freezer stash is super helpful for working moms even if you are not traveling. It helps relieve the stress of wondering if you are pumping enough for the next day, or when half way home you remember your milk is still on your desk
I'm so sad. I've had so many issues breastfeeding. My baby had a tongue tie for a week and it would take upwards of 30 minutes to get her to latch. Then my nipples were so sore I was crying while nursing. This went on for a month and half. We finally found a dentist 1.5 hours away to look for a lip tie and she had one and had to get a revision. The dentist also said her tongue tie had not been properly revised and did that as well. I began using a nipple shield consistently so that my nipples could heal. After 2 weeks of using the shield my LO will not latch without it. I tried last week to get her to latch without it for days using every trick I've read online to no avail. In fact she went on a nursing strike and cried every time I put her to the breast or even a cradle position. So we've been using the shield for about a month at this point. The one good thing is that she had been gaining weight really well. We went to the pediatrician today and he said he's concerned that she hasn't gained enough weight and I need to supplement. Well now she's hardly eating at all, formula or otherwise. I called and left a message at the hospital for one of the lactation consultants to call back, but I'm just beside myself. I feel like I'm a failure and that I'm starving my baby. I've worked so hard and done everything that I know to do and it seems like it will just never work.
This kind of turned into a dear diary comment. Sorry I'm just hoping maybe someone would have any suggestions while I wait for the lactation consultant to call back. I've been waiting to hear from one for hours.
how do you moms prevent the outside of your nursing bra from getting soaked while nursing? Not the inside (have to wear nursing pads obviously) but the outside part.

I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions, I know that's what you're looking for while you wait for your LC to get back to you.
Just wanted to chime in and say that you are nothing close to a failure. I understand feeling that way, totally, it can be very frustrating. You've done everything you can to give your baby what's best and that just goes to show that you are an amazing mama!!!!
I'm sure your LC or someone on here will be able to lend you some advice, hang in there lady!!

Creepy Internet hug to you. I few ideas to try to get your LO to take a bottle..... is there anyone besides you that can give it to her, or can you try putting her in a rock and play, swing or bouncer and giving her the bottle. Sometimes distance from mom will help them take a bottle. I hope you hear from the LC soon.

I tuck a burb cloth in my bra, like a bib for my breast while nursing. As DS got older he got to be a neater eater and I did not need to worry about it anymore. This LO still spills all over me.
@doodleoodle it sucks feeling like a failure. Is she not latching even with the nipple shield? Arlo and I were doing good for a couple days without one, but then he refused to latch without it and would scream bloody murder. So back on the shield we went. Try to take deep breaths and know that you're doing the best you can. I found that hopping in the shower with Arlo helps him latch better. Something about the skin to skin with the warmth of the water and the white noise helps us relax and bond. Good luck mama!

I fold my bra outward so the nursing pad is the first thing any dribbles will hit. Or if I'm at home feeding him and he's being particularly messy, I'll tuck a hand towel in there.
Well back here for ideas. So I was just accepting to myself that LO will just live off expressed milk and formula supplementing when we had a solid latch 30 minutes ago. I think she likes it when I'm super full as I haven't pumped or her nurse since around 9:00 as I pump anytime she eats and she had a solid stretch of sleep. I'm taking 3 fenugreek 3x a day but have not seen any semblance of an increase in supply but I'm suspecting it might actually be hurting my supply? After this 5 hour stretch she only ate maybe 2-3 oz and I am pumping *nothing* Pretty much every two hours I'm lucky to get 2-3 oz after pumping. I do oatmeal in the morning and will use heat before pumping but haven't seen much a difference. I'm leaving breastfeeding and pumping kicking and screaming here but have run out of ideas. I'll recall the LS tomorrow but am wary asI have done everything on her hand out and haven't seen results. Anyone have any thoughts?
@Lolo427 I've heard sometimes fenugreek can in fact hurt your supply. I'm not sure how true it is but I've heard it. Try mothers milk tea. It helped me tremendously.

I have heard that too. I was EP for awhile and the best thing I could do for my supply was to take a weekend and I would just stay hooked up to thr pump. I would pump for 20-30min take a 5 to 10 mon break and start again until I got to 8 oz then I would take a couple hours off and repeat. I took fenugreek and it did nothing for my supply. He has started nursing again but I still pump after he feeds. I can pump 7 to 8oz at a time now or 3 to 4oz after nursing.

Google Power Pumping and see if pumping nearly non stop could help jump start producing more. And maybe take a break from the fenugreek, it can drop supply for some women. Sorry you're struggling!
Edit because I just realize what you were actually saying. Sorry
Can I ask why you're stopping? Breastfeeding is tough and it isn't for everyone. As long as your baby is healthy and growing you're making the right choice. How are you doing with the decision?
We just left the doctor and my poor boy is in the 6th % for weight and 8th for height. Pedi said feed him more frequently for a couple weeks. My question is feeding him so much will make my supply go up, but will it regulate again after he's gained enough or will I have a huge over supply?

It'll regulate as time goes on. Was he tiny at birth? And is pedi using the BFed baby guidelines? As long as they are following their own curve from birth their weight and height aren't that important. Some babies and kids just stay in the 6% range and there's nothing wrong with that.
Does supply usually vary from one breast and the other? I didn't pump during the holidays as religiously as I had been and now I've noticed I get to 4 oz on one side much faster than on the other.

I was going to say the same thing. Mine was in the 3rd percentile last time, but has been since birth. My doc isn't worried because she is gaining consistently and having a good amount of wet/poopy diapers. If yours doesn't have those other indicators, or dropped percentiles significantly than obviously may not be getting enough to eat (I know everyone says always listen to the doc, but sometimes they don't make sense, I mean someone has to be in the first percentile just like someone needs to be in the 99th in order for them to work at all).

FYI, the main ingredient in mother's milk tea is fenugreek.

He was 8.13 at birth and at 2mo is 10.1. Hes dropped in percentiles. But me and has dad are small so she wasnt really concerned. She just said feed him more, see ya in 2 months. But I just don't feel like that's a normal gain

BF babies on average should be gaining 4-7 ounces/week.
Edited to ammend BF babies at this stage in life gain on average 4-7 ounces/week
Does anyone else have boobs that don't leak? I keep reading about people leaking or spraying milk, but that doesn't happen for me. I assume it means nothing other than I'm lucky, but wondering if there's a chance this will change when I go back to work and am pumping vs feeding on demand? Don't want to be leaking at work!!

Mine only leak when I'm engorged or when LO is crying and it's close to a feeding time (he makes my milk let down before he even latches then!) I would guess you could possibly have some leaks if you accidentally get too engorged or something reminds you of your baby (like another baby's cry or something). But I would also guess if you haven't leaked at this point you either won't or you'll very rarely leak.
You could always keep a backup shirt for the rare instance you do leak

Thanks! Glad to hear about your similar experience. I feel my let down often when I'm not feeding her (looking at her or talking/thinking about her) and still don't leak. I think I'll heed your advice and bring an extra shirt and pads for my first day back at work. Better safe than sorry!!

Mine only leak overnight if we go too long between pumping or feeding.

It just means you're lucky. At work you might leak since you won't be feeding on demand. Might want to get a few breast pass just in case.
For those who leak a lot- especially when you're feeding the baby - look into Milk Savers. Best invention ever! I collect 3 to 5 ounces of milk every day that I'm able to freeze just by wearing them on the side I'm not feeding from.

I believe they have to let your breast milk through security in a cooler. You can look it up with your airline, but a friend of mine travels once a month and she was able to transport her milk.
