SANDIFER SYNDROME!!!

OMG WEEMODIN! THANK YOU!!!

I just read up on this and you just answered my question! I feel this MAJOR light bulb just went on!

I'm calling my G.I. in the morning (have to check on some lab work anyway) and asking about this...

This is just one more reason I love this board!?

?

Re: SANDIFER SYNDROME!!!

  • I just googled it. Sounds exactly like what you described! Don't you love this board. I swear these girls are better than Dr's sometimes!

  • yeah! And Jax has just been diagnosed with Torticollis last month...so interesting! Well the good news is that its a defense mechanism to extreme GERD and goes away and isn't neurological.
  • Ya I read that too, that is good news. He has Torticollis too? Poor kid can't catch a break. Is it severe enough to where he may need to wear a helmet?

whaaaat? a helmet? momentary PANICK! Why a helmet?

His neck muscle on his right side is shortend, and we have OT working with us on stretching it - he has a head tilt majorly. Slowly getting better...?

  • don't panic...i think torticollis is sometimes related to misshapen head issues (but the misshapen head comes from the torticollis, and laying on one side all the time, or something like that.) my niece had to wear a helmet because of it. if jax's head is shaped fine, then don't even worry about it.

He does sleep on the same side (his left side) prescribed by g.i. for his reflux...supposed to empty his tummy faster....geeze...always something. The OT thinks it was from in utero position since he was lodged in my pelvis and his neck was cranked...she thinks his neck muscle is shortned because of it.

so the helmet is to SHAPE the head? The OT looks at his head, and says the shape is getting better...only one flat spot in back (where he likes to lay his head because of the toricollis)... I can't keep up ?

  • Oh So sorry! I did not mean to scare you! I know of a few baby that had to wear one because of how severe of a tilt/misshaped head he had. it was only temporary though. Your doc would have already mentioned it if it was that bad. Don't worry. Deep breaths...
  • ya know...a helmet would be like a cherry on top at this point right?!

gotta have some comic relief these days :)

i've always prided myself that in pictures of jax, for the most part, no one can see that he's connected to a backpack with food or has a cannula strapped to his face at night AND the tube coming out his belly. I'm trying to make his photos normal for him... especially being a twin who's brother has nothing like this...a helmet would be tough to overlook...

  • Well you do a very good job at the picture taking. They are both adorable and you would never know by looking at them together now that he has to deal with all of the added bonuses that reflux has given him:)
