Ha @virginiaunicorn11 I know I need to have a better attitude, just hard when we were spoiled by her good sleeping habits. Tylenol didn't help, had a pretty rough night. We fly tomorrow for two nights to see DHs family so timing is wonderful! Haha

When my LO is teething nights are rough. You *can* double up on Advil and Tylenol if that's something you and your doctor are comfortable with. I've had to do it a couple times when her pain was seemingly significant. Also, elevating her head a bit helped as well.
After two false starts in his first hour of going to bed, LO slept til 2:00 am! That's 5 or 6 hours! I do think he's getting better, when teething and whatever other issues he has, aren't a factor. Like @ciennah99 says. Slowly but surely, it's getting better. Surely...
@slr1229 I've heard, and my doctor told me, that Motrin may work better than Tylenol. You probably know that. I haven't tried it since I erroneously did it for his 2 month shots (oops).
^^my ped suggested motrin as well. She thinks it works better than tylenol. She just said wait until they are at least 6 months old (something about being processed by liver vs. Kidneys or vice versa, I can't remember. I'm sure Google knows)
We are going cold turkey without the merlin suit starting tonight. DH is off work all week so at least we will share the misery. Oh, and we have a blizzard tonight with mad winds, so the monitor goes off if LO makes noise, or if the wind blows too hard.
I just want sleep but ill admit I'm a total loser when it comes to ferbering my child: I can only stand his cry for about 10 seconds....... Anyway I can get myself to be tougher on this?

If you find out, let me know. I've turned the monitor off if I've planned not to go in.
So many night wakings over here. She's had a cold for the last week, so that probably explains some of them. But she's been waking so much for the last month. It used to be once or twice a night. The night before last I thought she might have an ear ache so I gave her Tylenol before bed. She slept a solid 6 hours, and then went back to sleep after waking once. That was a good night for us. Last night I didn't give her Tylenol and she woke up 4+ times. So that makes me think maybe she's in pain. Ugh. I just don't know.
This just in: teething with the top teeth is infinitely worse than the bottom teeth. We came through unscathed from the bottom two teeth..yet we are currently in dire straights waiting for the rest of the tooth to break through on top

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
Night 1 without the merlin was uber crappy. I'd like to say that my LO is still technically a good sleeper, as each time he woke up all he needed was his paci back. I only had to actually pick him up once, and that was around 830pm, so not a big deal at all. Every other time I just went in, popped his paci back in, and turned around and left. Even if he was 'awake' when I went in - which happened a few times, I went in and he smiled and started kicking - he either obediently closed his eyes again right away, or fell back asleep after I left his room.
Just So. Many. Wake. Ups. I lost count. Part of it may have also been the blizzard we were having, the winds were really strong and were making a lot of noise. So hopefully on a less active night there will be less external stimuli to wake him. Just got to stay the course so he gets used to sleeping 'free'
@mellymar my little guy is still sleeping with the Merlin. I am too chicken to have him sleep without it, because, well I love my sleep. However, he does turn a lot when I put him in the crib to play so I know he probably needs the extra exercise at night when he sleeps. The Merlin barely fits now, still zips up but his arms and legs are so long for it now, he looks so funny. I think I'll wait it out a few more weeks, it's cold and he seems so cozy in it.

I honestly believe the Merlin is slowing him down in rolling over. I think it restricts his movements too much and so he's not used to a lot of freedom of movement when he is on his back. I mean, when I lay him on his back awake, he lays there with his arms sticking out to the sides like when he's in the merlin. He plays with stuff, sure, and might roll onto his side every now and then, but if he's just laying there, he's in the merlin pose. Maybe my theory is total bunk, but I do know he's not rolling over at all yet, and I don't like he way will lie on floor with his arms out like that. So it sucks that he will wake up a lot more often while he is adjusting to having all that freedom of movement, but... Dude needs to develop those motor skillz, yo
^^^ even with the multiple wake ups, only needing the paci to go back to sleep is awesome! I think that sounds like a really good start, @mellymar. I hope he does even better tonight. I agree with you about the Merlin. I would watch my LO on the monitor practicing rolling and moving around in her crib at night. I think being unrestricted and on their own at night really gives them a good chance to fine tune the skills they're working on. You're brave for going cold turkey! Anyway, good luck!
@mellymar we moved out of the Merlin a month ago; what is he sleeping in now? She seems to like the Halo sleep sack. Hoping for a better night for you tonight!
@slr1229 I was just going to go with plain ol' footed pajamas. I thought about using a sleep sack or flying squirrel suit (whatever they're called) but... Why? Besides the extra layer, maybe for warmth, what's the point? I don't want another item that he needs just for sleeping. I reserve the right to change my mind on that later, but for now I just want to power thru the tough part and come out the other side without needing any more 'tricks' to have him sleep
@Sjeff0816 thanks! Yeah, I watched him on the monitor twist and move a lot last night. It didn't always wake him up, either, so that's good.
@mellymar we do sleep sack at night only. When lo was born we did sleep sack sometimes and sometimes a blanket stuffed around her legs good depending. Then went to swaddling around 3/4 months for a few weeks then back to just sleep sack at night. I never did it all the time. I only do it at night incase it gets chilly. The other night I actually left it off because it was warm out and she had fleece pjs on and it was a normal night. So I think it's possible to do it at night only if you want for warmth but otherwise you really don't need it
@mellymar I totally agree that the Merlin does slow down babies. Mine barely started turning just a few weeks ago and I think it's only because I spend a lot of my day with him on the floor, but you are right, at night he just lays there straight on his back in the "Merlin pose". You are giving me motivation to transition him out of the Merlin. That thing will not fit soon anyway.
So how is it going so far with LO after going cold Turkey?
We're at the in-laws house for two nights. Did great on the flight but we were up 11-4 last night. She was hungry and refused to sleep in the pack n play. Half our milk we brought spilled somehow so things are sooo great over here!
@beemaya83@Sjeff0816 well, last night went better overall, but he also had his 6m appt, complete with shots, yesterday. So he went to sleep normal time, and made a few noises overnight, but was generally quiet until about 4am, when DH had to go replace his paci. But he did wake up for the day at 545am, which is a whole hour earlier than usual. But its hard to know if he slept so soundly because of the vaccines - which is what I think is likely, he always sleeps hard after vaccines - or because things are improving.

Sounds epic! Hope tonight is better. Spilt milk is the worst! So sad

My kid's sleep is total f'ing hell. Every. Hour. We were bed sharing but even that isn't helping. I don't know if it's teething or habit. I'm at wit's end. Probably sleep training soon. Losing all sympathy from being so sleep deprived.

Ugh, this makes me sad. I had some serious hope after you had mentioned he slept 5 hours straight not too long ago
ETA by now his pedi has to have something to say about this
We had to cosleep while we were in the mountains last weekend. The pack n play was a definite no go. She seriously hates it. Nights are finally improving. We have also improved on our sleep training. She knows how to put herself back to sleep and we've been giving her the opportunity to do so (more during the day than at night). I still have a hard time with my habit of going to get her in the middle of the night to cosleep. I'm half awake and desperate. The first wake up I will nurse her back to sleep in the glider, but I usually fall asleep too. The second wake up around 3:30 usually guarantees a trip to our bed. It's not great yet, but it's getting much better. Now if I could get her out of the habit of waking at 5:45, that'd be great.

Yikes! I thought my LO was a horrible sleeper. I feel so horrible for you. I'd have to do some sleep training if I was up every hour still because I would be about to lose my mind...which you probably are. I totally understand the "losing sympathy" on being sleep deprived. It still sucks! DH and I had another blow up on sleep last week. He just doesn't get it.
We're still sticking to an 8:30-9pm bedtime to get my longest stretch with him. He'll get up at 1 or 2 and 4. I nurse him back to sleep at the first one and then I usually bring him into our bed at 4.
We finally caved and did CIO tonight. Lo had gone from waking 4 times to 6 times a night. Not sustainable. Dh and I are both home this week, so we committed to working on sleep. We tried 4 nights of other methods and made zero progress. He won't fall asleep drowsy, patting and shushing just annoy him, he has no interest a lovey or paci. Loved the crib soother, but just wanted to put it in his mouth. He'll be 7 months on Friday, and things needed to change. Only took 40 minutes for him to fall asleep... We'll see how long it lasts

He cried for 40 minutes at his late afternoon nap time, so we ended it (went in every 5-10 minutes). Then he went to bed exhausted at 6:40, was up by 7:15, 7:30... At 8:00, I left the house and put the grandparents in charge. DH and I came home at 11:00, and LO was in bed awake with my parents. They said he'd been up since 10:00 - so a 2 hour stretch.
The thing is, even LO is exhausted.
He gets great naps, if someone is sleeping with him. 2-3 hours. He just won't stay asleep at night. I've somehow created a monster, but he's been this way since birth.
He hardly cries during the day. And at night, the moment you pick him up, he snuggles in and goes right back to sleep. He just doesn't want to be alone or sleep too long. FOMO?

When you are coughing so ferociously you keep waking your already not amazing sleeper of a baby, your baby monitor broke so you can't sleep with both doors closed & your DH is out on-call & not around to help...nighttime really sucks. I tried rocking LO, leaned my head back & closed my eyes, when I looked down again she's just staring at me with big eyes & a huge smile. I'm convinced this kid doesn't like to sleep bc she is so sociable she just doesn't want the party to stop.
@virginiaunicorn11 hoping you get a longer stretch in tonight. My LO is similar to yours but gets longer stretches in & will sleep on her own but it takes a lot of gentle coaxing at times to get her to give in to sleep. I'm still going with that whole genius babies don't like to sleep scenario someone mentioned a while back!
@virginiaunicorn11 I'm so sorry. Seriously. You are doing everything right. There is no rhyme or reason why some babies are shit sleepers and others aren't. I give you all the credit in the world, I would have lost sympathy a few weeks, not 7 months in, to do CIO.

Do we have the same baby? I feel your pain. The plan is to sleep train once these top 2 teeth pop because I'm losing it. I just hope it works. I have my doubts
