I personally think it's not worth the risk. There are things I crave so much, like eggs benedict and deli meats and to relax in a hot tub, but I gave it up. I know the risk is low but however low the risk might be, the alternative is just too scary and not worth it to me. I would never forgive myself if something happened to my baby that could have been preventable.
There's a book called Expecting Better. The author analyzes various studies on controversial issues (drinking while pregnant, foods to avoid, risks/benefits of epidurals) and writes what she did when she was pregnant. It was an interesting read though I still avoid stuff. It's my first pregnancy and I'm an anxious person so that's that. But I believe all women are competent enough to make their own decisions. Cheers to happy and healthy pregnancies!

False all women are not competent enough to make their own decisions. Hence why children born with addictions, or fetal alcohol (yes probably from multiple drinks but you can never prove either way). While you may want this statement to be true, and while I believe that the women here at least the ones I have interacted with are competent, it is so very wrong to say "all women are competent enough to make their own decisions". Far toomany are uneducated about the issues and have no idea what to expect from parenthood or have any idea how to raise a child, hence why their children are removed and they and their children end up as my clients.
*stepping off of soapbox* Eta: clarification and spelling like I said the women I have met here I completely trust their judgement while our choices may be different I do not doubt their ability to weigh the decisions but it is ignorance to say all Women are competent to make their decisions.
I will NEVER give up warm baths. It is the only way to make my joints feel better and it's a way to relax so I briefly stop throwing up. I do agree that there are some things that you should avoid while pregnant because of studies that have been done but I'm also typically "eat whatever the hell sounds good". Like I said though this is dependant on the studies that have been done. I would never do anything that truly puts my baby at risk
I wake up at least four-five times each night to use the restroom!! What in the world?! I go right before bed too. Why??? Is it laying down? Does that put more pressure on my bladder? All I know is that it is driving me crazy!
@rlopezlavalle I too am up three or four times at night to get up and go to the bathroom. I hate it. Sometimes I even reduce my water intake at night. That helps some but not a whole lot! Let the sleepless night begin! Merry Christmas as well!

I feel you guys on the peeing. The bad thing is later in pregnacy when you lower your water intake it can give you contractions. It is this evil battle between hydration and peeing.
@SparkySunshine - last name, not first @Lindsayleigh1989 good point. Ideally women are competent to make decisions but that doesn't happen in reality. I meant that the women on here who are hopefully trying to learn and become educated on happy and healthy pregnancies can read up on various opinions and make their own decisions.

Yep. I agree. Also, common sense is not very common.
I definitely agree with @Lindsayleigh1989 that not all parents are competent and that common sense is sorely lacking in a lot of people.
With all of the pregnancy "no" rules it's helped me to consider the context. Federal regulations and the doctors conveying the information can't take risks, and it's safer for them to say NO than to give any wiggle room. The unfortunate reality is that saying something like "small amounts of alcohol is fine after the embryonic stage" could lead to a huge range of consumption depending on how someone defines "small amounts." Same goes for advising people to eat sushi or eggs or whatever from trusted sources. If you trust the quickie mart to provide high quality turkey sandwiches, you might be putting yourself at a higher risk than someone who is trusting eggs from their back yard. So, it's all relative and the people making the rules can't take the risk.
This year, husband and I decided to buy a large item for our house instead of spending money on christmas presents for each other. Our new stove is arriving today around lunch. I'm so excited I could pee my pants!
After being gone for almost 3wks H is finally coming home tonight. I need to clean and probably shower and shave. But I have no energy or motivation. Poor H lol.

I'm so ready for my in-laws to leave tomorrow morning. They do really odd things... I have plenty of food in the house, not to mention lots of leftovers, but they've gone shopping at least once a day and brought home random things. They came home today with three gallons of water and a bunch of bananas. We already have both. Yesterday they brought home two cartons of chicken broth. They just leave their items out on the counter (another annoyance) so I asked my husband why they bought the broth when we have some in the pantry. He said they bought it for us... Just because we might want it. Weird. When they showed up on Wednesday, they brought their own pepper, as in black pepper. Why!!? We have pepper. I don't get it. It's not like anything is wrong with these weird things, they're just soooo weird!
Maybe a fffc, but I really dislike my SILs son. Having her husband drop him off at my house on Sunday with no warning makes me ragey. I want him to leave now please.
I personally take all 'no' lists with a grain of salt. While FAS is real, and yes, while there is no set limit/amount, studies have shown that is from 1 of 2 things. 1) binge drinking (several drinks at one time) or 2) some one that drinks 4 plus drinks a week. Enjoying a glass of wine, especially after the embryonic phase has never been connected to FAS. It is just because science can not test amounts and ever one also has a different tolerance. That being said, the thought of drinking wine makes me want to puke.
The whole 'raw eggs', or raw meats is link to different food poisoning. However, most food poisoning is from the external surfaces of food. You are more likely to get food poisoning from a 'bad' steak than from a rare steak. However, ground beef and ground pork is different. Since there is a much large surface area prior to compacting into the patty/link, the risk of food poisoning is much higher (pregnant or not). So those really should be cooked.
Life should be taken in with moderation and a good dose of common sense. Instead of just looking if it is a 'yes' or 'no' food, look at why? Does it make sense? Does that pertain to this situation?
Sorry to drag this same topic back up but I've been Mia with Christmas. I agree with this, however I am happy that the large list of pregnancy "do not do's" exists. it throws out a blanket statement for all moms in order to keep their babies safe. However, those with common sense can research certain topics and weigh the actual risk to their baby vs. benefit in certain situations. I feel that I have good common sense and a medical background, so yes I indulge in a few things on the "no" list such as certain foods in moderation.
@born2run911 same here. I like the lists. I think they are a great starting point for research. I take the list and find peer reviewed research and see what actual research says.
Yesterday, my boss graciously allows me to leave work early because I have an insane headache. I'm walking to my car a few blocks away and just start gagging incessantly. I get to my car and continue to gag until BAM, I throw up all over the parking lot and pee my pants.
@ButterMyBiscuit -- only love-titting because I've been there before and feel your pain.
Isn't it punishment enough just to throw up?! Do we have to throw an incompetent bladder in there, too?!!!
Oh yeah almost every time I puke lately I pee myself and then cry and then gag and then the cycle happens again that's rough. Headache had to feel worse too for you !
So my bras haven't been fitting, so I went to get remeasured to get bras that fit. I went up 2 sizes in 12 1/2 weeks!!!! I am now an F cup!!! I didn't know that was a real thing. I am going to cry if these things get any bigger.
@ButterMyBiscuit@Lindsayleigh1989OMG! I am so sorry! That sounds horrible. I can't imagine! I guess good thing you could go home and change???
Yes, thank goodness. I mean, I pee myself constantly while gagging and coughing but this was overkill. It was even worse with my first son. Apparently, my vomit is violent.
@ButterMyBiscuit in the same boat. I thought my bladder would weaken after baby, not while I am puking! Silly me, I bought ultrathin liners, which are great if my bladder is empty, but if there is more than a little squirt of pee in me, I have to change my clothes. Yeah pee.

So H has a super crazy work schedule, we live far away from family, and we have moved every year or two so we have never had dependable child care for dates. To say it's been a while is an understatement. Unless something crazy happens, which is entirely possible, tomorrow night H and I are going out on our first date in a little over 5yrs. I'm excited and nervous. I feel like I am so socially awkward these days and of course our first date night would be to a company dinner. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't make a complete fool of myself lol.

I bought blueberry waffles last night (someone here recommended the blueberry) that and blueberry syrup is the best thing I've eaten this pregnancy. SO good!
I work downtown and the windows in my office don't shut completely. My building is at a busy intersection for cars and pedestrians. People have literally been hit by cars because they weren't using the crosswalk or the drivers weren't paying attention. I hear about a million car honks a day. I am starting to get a nervous eye twitch. HONK! twitch. HONK! twitch.
The WinCo brand pickles are gross. Super salty. I want a tuna "sandwich" (if I'm honest... it'll be a lettuce wrap and then I'll eat the rest on crackers negating the lettuce wrap....) And I'm considering just using sauerkraut instead. The good kind. Emerald City Kraut. It has kale.
