Re: *** The Official Random Thread of All Random Threads for March 2016 ***

  • I didn't have to fast before the 1-hour, I was just told to stop eating about an hour before I came in to have the drink. For the 3-hour I had to fast from midnight the night before, but I could drink water until I drank the glucola, but then not for the duration of the 3-hours.

All I have to say is I better pass this one. My arm is a bruised mess, and I absolutely do not have the energy to worry about a restricted diet for the next 10 weeks. I have enough other crap to worry about. At least they will call me tomorrow so I don't have to wait forever to find out.

  • I was told I didn't have to fast either. Planning on going in next week (it's drop in).

  • They told me to stop eating 2 hours before my 1 hour test. I have to fast starting at midnight tonight and go in at 8 tomorrow for the 3 hour.
  • I didnt have to fast before my 1 hour either. My appointment was at 8 so I chose not to eat anything and I had a cup of green tea. I was so thirsty!!

I walked around the mall with my mom and sister and I'm soooo tired. I need to get out and get more exercise.
  • Question: are you guys having professional newborn photo shoots done? Holy exorbitant prices, Batman!!
One lady just quoted me between 1 and 2 grand.
BTDT moms, I would love to hear your thoughts! Worth it? Not worth it?
    Merci :)

Yes but my sister is our pro photog so it's free. Definitely worth it.

That is insane. We are paying $200 or $250 I can't remember specifically. Maybe join a local mom group on Facebook or a baby resale page and post about it. That's what I did and that was pretty much the standard price.
  • We will get them done, but we won't pay more than a couple hundred for them. It wouldn't be worth it.

  • I may try to do some myself...DH got me an awesome camera for christmas. If they don't come out well, my god mother takes great photos and we will probably ask her. She did our engagement photos which cane out great.
  • I'm going to keep looking and if I can't find anything reasonable (I'd pay a few hundred) then I'll be taking them myself!!

  • Look around at pricing. We didn't do professional for ds, just did them ourselves. I would like to get professional ones for these babies, depends on our money situation at that time. Pricing here is about 200$. Much more than that and I would not do professional.
  • Okay so does anyone else see a picture of a newborn baby and panic a little bit? My friends boyfriends nephew (so and so I know) was born the other day and even though the baby was only 7lbs 3oz I was just looking at it like oh my god that has to come out of my vagina.
Me! Ds was 6 lbs 5 oz when I was induced at 37 weeks and I had a second degree tear. I am terrified this baby is going to be like 9 lbs and I'm going to have a uni-vag.
  • I had to fast after midnight before my GTTs with all 4 kids and 2 different doctors. Nobody ever told me to stop drinking water though; that's nuts.

I'm in the "eh idk if it's worth the $$$" camp for pro newborn photog session. I mean, if we had just money and time to spare I'd do it for sure! But I just take my own pics. My friend is a photographer and did a free newborn session with my second, and now I just feel weird that I didn't have one with my first and third (and won't this time), so I guess that's my hang-up: having to do them for each baby to keep it "even" and since we planned on having 4, I knew there were other things I'd want to spend the money on. So, for *me* it's a no. But if we had a few less bills and a bit more fun cash, it would be a yes.

Meh no worries. Ds1 was 6.15 and I had pretty bad tearing. DS2 was 9.1 and no tearing. The first kid kind of stretches everything out.

  • So the baby was head down at my last check, and a few minutes ago did this *huge* uncomfortable flip, and now I feel heels down low and hiccups up high. I know that it's still way early and there's lots of spinning room and babe will prob roll back around, but this has never happened before and idk ... I'm being overly anxious about nothing I guess

I'm only kidding. Actually, sex was amazing post baby once we got past the painful stage. We always joked around that we would have to thank my doctor for the couple of extra stitches he put in.
  • I'm having my cousins wife so a newborn shoot with both boys. I can't bloody wait. She's giving me the friends and family discount, though. Keep looking, $1k is insane.

I'm not too concerned about pushing him out this time. I mean, I did it before. It sucked. But it got better. I'm honestly just so excited right now. I can start to differentiate what his little parts are that are kicking/punching/nudging me and I love it!

"A acorn" damnit. Now it's going to drive me nuts when I get there too!! We need to tell someone...

Holy crap that's a lot! We had a professional (our wedding photographer) for DD and will do the same with this little girl. She charges $250.

  • Finally felt like figuring out how we are gonna fit ourselves and a baby in this bedroom, and as soon as I started talking to DH about it he was like "I can't even think about that right now." What? What do you mean? The first time in 7 months that I feel like getting things figured out for this baby you don't feel like it? He's been a grump today.

    Ugh. Men.

Yeah that's how I feel. We were definitely too broke to even consider it when my first was born. Probably could have sprung for it after Amelia, but prices are pretty ridiculous in Los Angeles, and I just didn't think it was important to spend a lot on. And now I would feel guilty doing them for the last baby when the girls don't have any professional newborn shots. I'd love to have them for all 3 though.

Hells yes I do! I tore with my 3 lb. 13 oz. Baby- I can't imagine the horror of pushing out a full term one!

  • Thanks for feedback re photos. The lady's exact words in her email were: "on average my newborn clients tend to invest $1,000 - $2,000 on their images"
DH and I were really taken aback and actually he seemed sad that it was too expensive, like he somehow wasn't giving our baby the best if we decide not to go for it. Which is ridiculous of course but it was sort of cute! Anyway I've emailed some other people so fx it works out. Otherwise I'm hopping on a plane to where these shoots are only two hundred bucks!

@oceanchild "a acorn" - how did I not notice that? I'm irrationally annoyed right now!! Lol

As long as you don't end up with the dreaded vagashole....
  • Just got my breast pump today and realized I have 71 days until my c-section. I have nothing ready, since we are moving to a new house in three weeks. I'm kind of starting to stress out. I'll probably tire myself out once we are settled in the new place.

As for pictures we always got the hospital shot ordered at the hospital then we would go to Portrait Innovations or the Picture people to do photos. Professional photographers where I lived when I had my two boys were well over 700 dollars which is crazy. We would spend 150 to 200 dollars depending on how many pictures we wanted at portrait innovation or picture people and we'd get the shots we want and the cd with the rights to print out more if we want. I'm not sure if there is a studio like that near you the good thing about these places is there are often coupons so you can save some money. I get my kids pictures done every month for the first year and yearly pictures for the next few years until they are in school then we only get family photos done at these places. I've never had an issue and they let you change outfits if you want and bring in your own props. I could take the pictures myself I worked at the Picture People when I was in college and really enjoyed setting up scenes positioning families for their photos, but I really like having someone else do it for me so i can watch the experience. Good luck I really hope find a cheaper price.

Good luck to all the ladies that are taking/took their 3 hour glucose test. I did mine yesterday morning and I am anxiously awaiting the results. I barely failed the 1 hour (149 had to be 140) so I think I will be fine but I am still worried. I made the stupid mistake of eating right before I went even though I knew better!

ecwk I think newborn pictures are def worth it but I would keep looking for a photographer. 1000-2000 seems crazy. Around here its 250-700. The lady I am using that is super popular is 350.00 and you get a CD will all of your pictures and the rights to them. I would look for someone that offers a CD with the rights to the pictures. It seems like it gets crazy expensive when you have to buy the actual prints.

That term is way better!! I just finished chugging my glucola. Let the three hours begin. Baby girl already feels like she is going to punch right through my belly. I might have actual bruises by the time this is over.
  • @SparkE82 LOL i pull the mom card too! In fact i pulled it just the other day when Dh and i could't agree on a paint color and i'm like "well your mom picked this one too"
