Re: *** The Official Random Thread of All Random Threads for March 2016 ***

  • Question: Is anyone else starting to panic over things?  Here I am 9 weeks and 3 days to go and I'm panicking over all things baby related.  My crib is finally refinished, but not at my house/put together yet, and DH's cousin told us months ago she had a crib mattress for us, and would bring it down on one of her visits.  Here it is almost January, and she hasn't been down yet.  Her sister went up to her house to visit (she lives a good 3 hours away), and she sent her home with a big garbage bag full of clothes for us, but we haven't seen that yet (she is supposed to be making arrangements with DH to drop them off), and never thought about the mattress.  Now I truly appreciate people wanting to give us things but we kind of need them here in our house, not floating around somewhere.  Its NOT worth us driving the 3 hours to go get a free crib mattress when I can blow the same $50 in gas money to buy one in a store here.  So the shared bedroom/nursery has yet to be finished.  I still don't have a dresser.  Even if I got my crib here and set up, I don't have any sheets to make it with (just the blanket). I'm totally freaking out! I know my shower is in just a few short weeks, but I still feel like I don't have enough time!

I'm also in worry mode because I'm quickly creeping up on 32 weeks.  I know I'm on these injections but they supposedly only decrease the chance of a preterm baby by 25%, so I'm worrying about that.  I'm still not 100% sure if I want to breast feed or formula feed- all I do know is I don't want to supplement, just either one or the other.    I worry when I haven't felt him move in awhile, when he actually was just moving about 10-15 minutes ago.  I've had a few slight bouts of extreme pelvic pressure, to where I couldn't sit but it quickly went away.  I'm still running on little to no sleep so that may be half of it.

Then at my family Christmas party yesterday, my cousin's 3 year old boy totally stole the show.  He was so adorable!  But he was on the go constantly.  He was going after everyone's pie, but when we offered him bites he said, "No, thank you.  I want that!" pointing to the cool whip we put on top lol.  So eventually my uncle gave him the leftover tub of cool whip (there wasn't a lot left) and a fork to eat it- but when that didn't work I ran and got him a small spoon; he took about 4 bites and was done, and had moved on to something else (I think he was pretending to drive a truck).  Everyone kept making the comment "See what you have to look forward to?".  While I know they meant it in a nice way, it still makes me worry about if I will be able to keep up with a 3 year old.  I try to use the mindset that for the past 10 years I was a Head Start teacher, and I chased 18 4-year olds at once around a classroom for 4 hours a day, on top of most of that being a single mom of my own little.  I should be able to handle just 1, albeit 24/7 and not just 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I really hope I'm worrying over nothing...

  • Happy Monday, everyone! Back to real life!

We had a blissful Christmas. My house is still trashed because I haven't worked up the energy to find homes for all the new toys. DH took today and tomorrow off and I'm really trying not to jump down his throat with a list of things that need to be done while he's off. Haha.

@charley15, I'm with you on the panicking - although for a little different reason. The pregnancy pain is starting to get to me and I'm freaking out about surviving the next 11 weeks. I'm also really nervous about adding a third kid. I'm scared of the sleepless nights, and getting three kids ready and out the door anytime we need to go anywhere, and having any time to myself ever again. Haha.

Off to my "28" week appointment this morning. I'm thankful I have a morning appt. because we're supposed to get an epic ice storm this afternoon. Preparing myself to lose power for the foreseeable future!

  • Well I just got a call from my OB I failed my 3 hour by a few points on the 1 hour and 2 hour mark so they are considering me diabetic they have me coming in for patient education on Jan 8th. They aren't worried since it wasn't highly elevated but they just want me to monitor and start eating a high protein diet. They figure since I'm over 35 is why I failed apparently us AMA ladies have a higher rate of gestational diabetes. Hope all the other ladies on here taking the 3 hour passed.
  • @2goofykids We went grocery shopping when DD was 3 or 5 days old, I don't remember. I felt fine, altough tired, of course. This time, I plan to maybe stay home a little longer. I didn't mind being out, but getting showered/dressed/ready was annoying lol. My MIL and mom will be here for a short period around when baby is due, so I hope she is born with enough time for me to take advantage of their love of cooking/cleaning. I'm totally relaxing for as long as I can this time. Well, for as long as 2 year old DD allows :p

  • @herfst80 enjoy Prague! Dh and I spent 3 weeks there it was beautiful.

@charley15 totally panicking. Ds was born at 36 weeks and I was on bedrest staring at 32 so I am thinking everything needs to be ready in the next 2 weeks just in case. As of yesterday we officially have the rooms painted and that's it. Ahh!

@2goofykids I think everyone is different. I had a c section but we still travelled 4 hours to Ils 2 weeks pp. I was out taking Ds for short walks around then and we were fully out and about from that point on.

    Womp womp wompppppp

Failed my 1 hour glucose test so I have to go in for the 3 hour. So much for hoarding my vacation time for maternity leave! I have been taking it left and right lately lol. I hoped to carry over 2 whole weeks but will only have one and whatever I accrue between now and delivery day. Bummer.

Dh has officially decided to casually start looking for jobs back in STL. Chicago just doesn't feel like home and I have a feeling it's only going to get worse once the baby arrives. We have literally no support system here. No friends. No family. It's just so lonely. We're nearly out in the sticks so there are no decent meet-up groups and everyone I work with is like 50+. I hate the idea of taking a loss on our house though. We bought it at close to top market value so with the costs of selling, we'll likely be paying money out of pocket, then of course the cost of moving, buying again, etc. It will take DH finding something semi-extraordinary for us to make the move, so I don't imagine it will be in the near future, but hopefully in the foreseeable future. Anyway so that's what's new here.

Legitimately missed some of you ladies over the long weekend! I hope you all had a great Christmas with your sweet little families.

  • Hey ladies!

@2goofykids I went for a walk (about 2 miles) 3-4 days after my son was born. My SIL brought her daughter over and we pushed them in their strollers. I just needed fresh air. I didn't go to a store or anything until at least the one week mark.

Only one more Christmas to celebrate with family, then we can officially rest, LOL! I know what you mean about running around. Even though this year was chill for us we were still all over the place. Today I'm at home, tomorrow back to work until Thursday.

    Have a good one!

@mrspepper05 I'm freaking out about getting through the last trimester as well. All of a sudden, over this little break, my braxton hicks have really kicked in (at least three a day) as well as back pain and digestive issues plus a constant need to pee. I am wondering how it's going to be when I am back teaching, on my feet more and one of these wonderful braxtons hits me, not to mention having to get someone to watch my class every two seconds while I run to the ladies room at the very end of the hall.
  • @flowerpower5838 check mops.org (if you are religious or don't mind being with religious women). There is a find a group button and see if there is one near you! We have been in Denver almost 5 years and I have been so lonely. We don't have any family here either. I finally joined mops last year and it has changed my life. I have met so many amazing moms.

I just got my Rhogam shot. It really is starting to feel real.
  • happy 4th day of Xmas everyone! sending hugs to those who need them, and prayers for the illnesses to pass (and for your g'pa, @skruhmin)
ours was mostly nice and yummy and quiet - my parents arrived to visit Xmas Eve which was great, but they left quite grumpily yesterday afternoon bc we needed them to babysit unexpectedly (with only a few days' notice, our friends got married yesterday in the next town asked me and DH to be their honor attendants/witnesses; we still don't have a rental that can transport the whole fam after the wreck). my parents ended up being mad that we were 15 minutes late coming home bc the groom went to get something for us from the attic of their new home as we were leaving and literally fell through the ceiling and landed on me! luckily neither of us were hurt (i mean it didn't feel good, but it could have been much worse), but it delayed our leaving by a few minutes as we were all recovering from the moment. my aprents throw stupid tantrums about stupid things sometimes. we got home and they walked out the door and didn't even say goodbye to the kids. it was kind of a bummer. drama free other than that though LOL
i mean, of all the weird luck - who else would be standing under the exact place that dude falls through a ceiling? only pregnant me, seriously. i was covered in plaster and wood chips (or whatever that stuff on the ceiling is).
and turns out dude who hit me was uninsured, so yay - more hassle on that end. c'est la vie, i suppose!

we need a new siggy challenge for the new year!

  • So I'm laying here in bed because my 3 hour glucose test was supposed to be today, and we were supposed to go at 7:30 when the lab opened but the roads weren't clear cause it's snowing again and now it's 9 and I'm really hungry and if I didn't have an appointment this afternoon where I may possibly get my results back I would totally just do this another day. I'm starving.
  • @oceanchildIf good luck could be bought, I would be sending a big package your way. I suppose you have the best worst luck ever though because you are still standing. I really do hope that odd and scary things stop happening to you.
  • Could use your thoughts, I'm headed into the doctor because of a possible clot in my leg from flying.  Hoping it is just a pulled muscle.  :-(

  • @oceanchild Holy cow. You are the luckiest unlucky person I (kind of?) know! Thank goodness that didn't end up worse than it could have been. Also of course that guy that hit you is uninsured - it would be too easy if he wasn't!

@skruhminKeeping your gpa and the rest of your family in my prayers! I hope you and your sweet little family were still able to enjoy yourself over the weekend.

@charley15 I am kind of worried that no panic at all is settling in. I feel like a little bit of panic is healthy?? You have all of your ducks, they just need to get lined up all in a row. I am sure everything will work itself out one way or another! Just call or text your friend with the mattress and let her know you are planning on getting the nursery set up since you're close to the time when DD was born and can she send it with her sister/bring it to the shower/whatever. If she flakes then it may be worth your peace of mind to just spend the 50 bucks on a new one (or maybe add one to your registry JIC?).

@2goofykids Good luck with your test! Sooooo crappy that you have to fast ALL day. I am going to get my 3 hour test scheduled today hopefully for Thursday morning. Not looking forward to it.

@cmerribury REST! Yes. Can't wait. Love the holidays, but glad they are almost over.

@mrspepper05 GL at your appointment! Drive safely! It's super icy here - I am scared for the drive home from work.

  • I just got on after a week or so away and there were 545 new comments. No time to read them all so I am just going to jump back on! I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas. I had to go back to work today after 9 days off and it was rough. I have been counting the days until Christmas break and its over now so I guess nothing to do now but wait for the baby and count my days until maternity leave . :) We got the crib put together over break, decided on a name, I cleaned out all our closets and I ordered the paint to refinish the babies dressers so overall feeling very accomplished. I also failed my 1 hr glucose with a 149 (pretty sure it was because I ate breakfast right before..why????) so I get to go back this week for the 3 hour. :(

  • Hi ladies

@bntfroggie thinking of you, best of luck.

@oceanchild I've no words! I think you're getting all your bad luck out of the way right now so that it'll be total smooth sailing once LO gets here!

@charley15 I know what you mean about getting anxious about upcoming DD. Mine is just over 11 weeks away. Say if baby came a week or two early, that's only nine or ten weeks.....ummm Wtaf? How is that possible?? Aaaaargh!!

@flowerpower5838 best of luck with whatever decision you and your DH make. I can empathise a little bit about living in a new area and though we have my ILs for most of the year, they head south for the winter so I can understand what you mean. It will find a way to work itself out, I'm sure :)

@SarahFoley725 my LO has been SUPER active recently. It's nuts! Even to the point I was worried he/she was in distress or something!

Guise, I haven't had any BH contractions yet, at least I don't think I have. Anyone else????

  • Gotta rant for a minute. Drove 30 minutes to my stupid doctor appointment. Sat in the waiting room for 15 minutes. Nurse checked my blood pressure/urine. Dr came in, put the doppler on my belly, measured my uterus, asked if I had a nice Christmas, said "see you in 2 weeks." I was with her for less than 2 minutes. She never asked how I was feeling or if I had any questions. I wanted to ask about my BH. Annoyed at myself for not saying, "Wait! I have a question!" Annoyed at her for rushing through my appt.

At least I made it home before the sleet started! It is slamming the windows and already covering the roads. Yuck.

  • Alright I'm 7 minutes till my 2nd draw. First one was fasting. I'm working so hard to not throw up right now. I'm hypoglycemic to begin with so fasting and then spiking my blood sugar is making me want to actually punch someone. Poor DH has to listen to me complain. I got so lightheaded a minute ago I thought I was gonna pass out, and honestly I wouldn't mind. This is murderous.
  • @bntfroggie hoping the dr is right!!

@charley15 yes!! DH and I are in a one bedroom apartment so we don't have a nursery to decorate or prepare. And we haven't gotten any baby things till Christmas, and that consisted of a pack n play and a bouncer. Lady getting us the crib has my top three choices, hoping she picks one and orders soon! DH and I are going to sand and repaint a dresser and use that as our changing station, can't do that till his parents come up this weekend to visit and bring their power sander. I feel like we need to do more and be more prepared but he seems so chill. I'm due the 2nd and have been lurking on the Feb board and there's already been maybe 4 or 5 moms who have had their babies early, so it's kinda freaking me out even though I haven't really had any issues this pregnancy. I'm probably going to wash the clothes we've got, it's not much though. I feel like after my shower on the 16th I'm going to have so much to do!!
    DS1 born 2/28/16
    DS2 due 12/12/18

  • @oceanchild seriously woman, you need to just wrap yourself in bubble wrap and stay home until March! Hope you're feeling alright, sorry your parents were giant toddlers about it.
  • @bntfroggie I went in for the same thing like a week and a half ago. These kids man! Hopefully you just have a weird ultrasound and no clot like me.

@ecwk seriously I was like...are you okay in there baby? Also I've only had one BH

So DH went back to work today so it's the first time my unemployment has really sunk in...or maybe I'm just SAHM official now. Either way I never noticed how much crap needs to be done around my house.
  • Apparently still sick. The milkshake dh brought me last night didn't stay down, 3rd day/night of being sick. So dh just took ds to see his grandma and I am soaking in another Epsom bubble bath. Then I'm going to nap. It won't quit raining here and roads are flooding everywhere.
  • Alright I'm 7 minutes till my 2nd draw. First one was fasting. I'm working so hard to not throw up right now. I know how you feel my three hour was torturous. I hope you pass I unfortunately failed even though it was only a few points on the 1 hour and 2 hour. Good luck and get something to eat when you done.
  • Ohhhhh my god. DH just tried to kill me for real. I knew he was coming home from work early because he text me and told me so. I had music on and was cleaning up the house. I didn't hear him pull in the driveway or come in the house. I was bent over putting stuff in a garbage bag and I hear "hi" and there's a man right in front of me. Now he's using a flat head screwdriver to open a box because I guess he wants to go to the ER or something.

  • Look! It's perfect!

    Is that butter chicken?!
  • Yay @bntfroggie!  So glad it wasn't a clot!
