We haven't started on anything, but my husband and I are both off work from Christmas Day to New Years Day so we are going to clean out the spare room/convert it to the nursery during that week. We're painting it light grey, furniture will be black, and elephants will be the main decoration. I'm leaning towards light blue, lime green, and grey as the main colors. BRU has a set of elephant sheets in those colors so those are my inspiration right now. It's kind of hard to see, but here are the sheets:

  • Page 2 already?! Ha ha...

DH and I put the crib together last night! I kind of want to purchase the mattress and some sheets off our registry so I can REALLY get it set up! Crazy to think we are going to put a baby in there... oh my gosh, it's getting real! I am SO glad that we picked a crib with the drawer on the bottom... will be so helpful for storage!

  • I feel like a horrible slacker parent :) Our nursery still needs structural work (tearing out a crappy old closet and adding some nice built-ins) and is currently home to a bunch of plants that we keep inside during the winter.

I promise, the kid will eventually have a cute place to sleep :)
  • @fourtsixand2 LOVE THIS. OMG. SO ADORABLE!
  • This is DD1's woodland nursery. The wall behind her crib is a stencil, I made the mobile, cross stitches the picture that's high up above the fairy lights and made the frames for the pics over the changing pad, DH repainted the dresser, made the changing topper and shelves next to the dresser. Sorry her room is a mess.
Did you use a paint roller stencil or is the the kind that you put on the wall and roll the paint over? I was thinking of doing a stenciled wall.

  • We have agreed on a basketball theme, but not your typical animated "baby" décor. We're getting retro NBA posters (Shaq, Penny, Jordan, Johnson, etc.) and framing them around the walls. I also have a signed Magic jersey that I got when I was in grade school that I want to include with the posters. DH has purchased a basketball hoop to hang on the back of the door. Furniture will be pretty neutral as well as bedding; thinking of greys and blues. DH wanted to do a Miami Heat theme but I talked him out of it! Retro basketball seems way better.

It's a regular put on the wall stencil. I think we had to place it somewhere between 30 and 40 times. It was a huge time consuming task but I love how it turned out. I bought the stencil from olive leaf stencils on etsy and I want to say that elmer's spray adhesive gave us the cleanest lines. Luckily the not so pretty stuff is on the bottom behind the crib

  • Is anyone else doing the wood letters to spell out their child's first name? I'm going to get some at Wal-Mart and paint them, but I'm not sure what to paint on them. I was thinking of just doing colors that reflected the nursery, but the inner artsy me wants to paint little picture in each letter...
  • @poppy16 we have that crib but in white! It's been great, and so affordable!

I've been thinking about doing something similar to that for both boys. My plan is to get some awesome fabric and staple it onto canvas, then figure out how to get the wood letter to stick to that. I plan on just painting them a solid color.

Edit: I found something similar to what I was thinking on Pinterest, but not exactly.

  • I have nothing for a nursery yet. I'm still using it as a storage room/personal closet. (Sorry kid, but until I can convince your father he doesn't need a department store's worth of clothing, we'll be sharing that closet)

I did hang the painting I made for him, and we do have some stuffed animals, but none of that is really getting used for a long time lol. (I've decided the picture looks like the Whomping Willow)
  • @Bubbles3592 I did that for my oldest daughter. I just modge podged scrap book paper to the letters. It turned out super cute.
  • @Bubbles3592 We put wood letters with DDs name over her crib. Nothing special done to them though, we bought large white letters from Michaels, and white went with the white furniture and wood work in her room.

  • Crib and dresser are up! That's about as far as we have gotten so far. The crib and dresser are both from overstock.com. Brand of crib is babyletto

Awesome! Did the dresser live up to the expectations? :D

That is such a cute idea!!! I love it. Show pics when it's up please!

  • We are in the process of moving across the country so don't even have a place to live yet. I was feeling so behind and bad about it but I'm glad to know we're not the only ones without it all figured out yet! Like we need the added pressure!

I think we want to do an under the sea/nautical kind of theme. Not full-on preppy blue and white stripes everywhere though, just boats and dolphins and things. We'll see what we come up with!

@allaire314 where did you find that? I haven't seen any with drawers!

  • I saw a picture the other day of someone who put paw-prints down on their hardwood floor as part of their nursery décor. Now I really wish the nursery floor was hardwood instead of carpet because I would love to do little lion footprints since it is a lion king/jungle theme nursery.

I'm doing that theme too! :)

I hate putting furniture together!!! My husband and I never fight, EXCEPT when we are putting furniture together. Then, it's always certain we will fight. LOL.

I'm not looking forward to when we receive all the furniture at the same time… It will be quite a day. My mom will be here from Brazil though, so hopefully she can help put it together AND moderate the arguments between hubby and I. LOL
  • @jonesl12 those are the colors I've been thinking about too! I've been meaning to go look at prints at HobLob because I'd seen some that I liked back when. What are you doing bedding-wise?

I could have bought 20 more things there! That place is dangerous !!

Honestly we are not doing any bedding other than fitted sheets . Bumpers and skirts aren't something I really want.
I registered for a few different prints on Amazon. This one is cute
    That is adorable!

I bought a bunch of fabric and plan on sewing both boys new fitted sheets. DS1 never used the large blanket that came in his crib sheet set, so I'm not going to bother buying one this time around. MIL is making DS2 a tiger themed quilt (at least, that's what DH told me).

This little guy will be sharing a room with his 3 year old sister. We were going to convert the playroom into a nursery, but decided to have a sleeping room and a playroom, so that DD can still play while the baby is napping. DD is the girliest of girls and loves pink and purple. The walls are getting painted a light grey (soft oak) today.
Long story short- would grey walls with pink accents on her side and teal accents on his side be too divided? I'm also toying with orange or yellow instead of teal. Whatcha ladies think??

Eta: I've searched Pinterest but everything I've found is either dominantly feminine or masculine.

I'd do either blue and purple (like this) or a coral and dark teal. Less distinct than pink and blue, and probably easier to find some combined pieces to bring the whole room together. I think font/pattern tends to have a lot more impact on how feminine/masculine artwork comes across than the actual colors.

No, I don't think so....I think it'd look great.  Besides, it gives them a sense of their own space, even though they share the same room.  I think from what you're describing, that's a perfect solution.

  • Also, I had Friday off so I decided to put the dresser together... IKEA is always a task, but add pregnant to the mix and it took me 5.5 hours to do by myself! But worth it!!! Here is our nursery with some of the elements we are putting up. Should have gotten the wood wall in the pic, but it's on the other side of the crib.
Looks awesome and you are so organized!  You are brave putting an IKEA dresser together all by yourself. I commend you!!

We are still in the process of cleaning out the room (almost done) and we got paint samples yesterday. So now we will start painting, and furniture should be delivered by the end of the year.
  • @K&Elizabeth I don't think it would be too divided... but after seeing the color inspiration from @mrstrax I think colors that would have a unifying piece (like a rug or curtains) is a great idea!
  • You guys are making me jealous/making me second guess my plan to keep my first son's nursery!
Although now that my husband is pursuing this job out of town, I guess we may move, and then I'll have to do a new nursery... darn ;)
