How is your pelvis feeling?  Baby could have dropped down into there a little.  Are you waddling at all?  I tend to look "smaller" as I get into the 30s but that's only because baby is dropping and engaging.

I don't feel her lower (like having pressure down there more than usual) and I'm not waddling quite yet - just soreness in my hips that's worse overnight. My bump has since reappeared for the most part, though, so it must have been her sitting further back or stretched out differently! I knew I shouldn't worry, but the more I thought about it the weirder I thought it was.

    Thanks for the reply!

You still experience the dropping later on? My 2nd was the last one I had the dropping with. Then I've carried slightly lower with every one after. This one makes me nervous at how low he stays but dr says its normal so it's not a huge deal yet. I know at some point soon I'll be walking around fully clenched at every step lol

Oh my babies get lower and lower every time.  But yeah, I still drop later on with them and I can hardly walk.

My belly button and the very close surrounding of it is so sore, tender, and itchy....What could be causing this?? I don't feel kicks or punches around the area and my belly button still has not popped out yet. I've been rubbing extra lotion around it hoping that would help with the itch but no such luck.

  • Just your belly stretching to it's limits.  My belly button never pops out, but the stretching sucks.

  • Does anyone else's baby get shy when someone else tries to feel them move? Little girl will kick me all day and night but as soon as DH lays his hand on her she stops. It's starting to bother him a little and I feel bad.
DH has a very deep voice and as soon as baby girl hears him she stops moving. He hasn't felt her move yet (and sometimes I place his hand where she was just kicking violently after he has been quiet for awhile) and she stops. DH says he doesn't care, he will have the rest of his life to see and feel her moving around, but I feel bad. I think once shes moving around more consistently he will be able to feel her. I probably won't let anyone else try to feel her move-I really dislike being touched. Hey, maybe she gets that from me.

  • Our baby actually responds well to DH's voice. When he comes in close, puts his face right up to the belly, and starts talking, he is immediately rewarded with a kick to the face. We love it!

I have a funny question that just makes me wonder. Are pregnant women allowed to give blood? Personally, I'm iron deficient, so they wouldn't let me regardless. But does pregnancy automatically get you declined?

Nope, they won't let you donate. I used to donate until I got pregnant. They're even wary if you breastfeed since it could lower your supply. I told them I plan on breastfeeding so they said they'll call me back around a year from now to see how I'm doing.

  • Sorry if this has been asked! Search is not working on my phone right now.

I'm currently waiting for the school nurse to phone me back after a couple rounds of telephone tag. My 5 year old may have pink eye. Anybody have experience with family members having pink eye while you're pregnant? Should I just wash my hands a ton and not rub my face against his? Any more concerns with pregnancy?

I had it during my last pregnancy. It's not a huge deal if you get it. Just prescription eye drops. As for preventing it, just lots of hand washing and keeping your hands off your face.

  • A new question, looking for opinions.  I know "natural" ways to jump start labor have been talked about in this thread but I don't really believe/have much investment into them.  Pregnant with DD2, DD1 was induced via pitcoin at 41 weeks - because I was "over due" basically.  I'm sure they assumed she was big, but didn't do any sonos or anything. She came out nearly 10lbs.  I had complications with my body and baby tolerating Pitocin, intervention medications were needed due to low heart rate on baby several times, pitcoin was stopped, my epidural was stopped, and the NICU was waiting her arrival.  She turned out fine, but I'd like to avoid that again. I tore and had to be cut a lot, which wasn't a big deal aside from I got a lot of stiches. I'm not sure pitcoin was the reason, or it would happen again, but I'd really like to avoid Pitocin. It's actually the only thing wrote in my "birth plan" (my chart at my OB regarding called out preferences). I've read my chance of going over is based on past history and family history, both indicating I have a high chance of going past due date again.  I'm okay with being past due, my job is relaxed or I'll just call in sick, etc. I'm not someone who wants baby out on due date just because being pregnant "sucks."  My questions for STMs is, at what point do I take the Pitocin if the Dr mentions it?  I will take it day by day, but is the size of the baby also working against me too? I don't want to wait until baby is so big I end up with C-section (they threatened it during last labor).  My dr is into stripping membranes, we did it before and nothing happened, but I've hard negative things about that too.  Aside from hoping to go into labor on my own what can I do? Should I have a mental readiness point for the Pitocin or just 100% decline? Can I assume my past experience is unrelated to what might happen this time?  I've brought this up to Dr but she hasn't said much except we would try to avoid Pitocin... I think she's a little hesitate to give false promises or predictions.
  • Hi All!!  I know there was a discussion a while back about pubic hygiene while pregnant.  Honestly I'm debating a Brazilian, I've done it about 3 times before but never pregnant.  So obviously I haven't had it done in a while so it would be removing all hair and will hurt like a B.  Anyway I heard the extra blood makes it suck even more anyone know if this is true?  I'd rather not be uncomfortable pregnant while having a vagina that is on fire, but at the same time I am so sick of shaving and would like a break for a while.

    Anyway any ladies have experience?

I feel like it is now at the itchy beard part.  You know the point where men complain their beard is itchy and either make the decision to shave or let it grow.  Honestly I shave it for me I don't shave it for him, although I'm pretty sure he would complain if it were pube city down there.  Anyway I'm not so sure I can do that.  :D

  • @alligreer88 the only reason I said yes to pitocin was I was at a major stall at 4cm with DS2.  Like I was there for hours - and this was after my membranes were stripped (I believe I stalled because my membranes were stripped).  They had to do full blast rounds of pitocin to get me going again and that sucked.  I ended up with an epidural because it was way too painful.  This time I'm going to try my hardest NOT to do pitocin.  With DS1 I had a tiny hit of pitocin but other than that went pain med free.  If you absolutely don't want pitocin, then make it clear you DO NOT WANT pitocin.  That's ok.  You be in control as much as you can - pitocin for the most part is optional.  And I was the one that said yes both times because the stall sucked and I wanted to get things going again.

  • Has anyone started their kick counting yet? I'm beginning to wonder if this is a little redundant. I counted earlier at work, and got 20 kicks/movements in 40 minutes. Just now i started and he is moving and rolling around so much in there I just counted 20 in 10 minutes! I do go 2-3 hours not feeling anything, but then I can get hours of movement- a LOT more than 10 in an hour! Does that seem right!?

I've never kick-counted. (My doctor has never told me to.) But I'm with you. He has bouts of movement where he goes crazy for half an hour. Then he's calm/still for a couple hours. I think it's normal at this stage. It's not until like 37 weeks+ that I remember the movement being nearly constant.

  • @mrspepper05 lol I'm so glad I'm not the only one that's never counted kicks. With my 1st (which was the only one I actually tried to with) it made me worry more just waiting for that next kick or movement. With the subsequent pregnancies I've just gotten to where I honestly don't even try because "I really ain't got time fo dat". My nurse at my doctors office always asks "baby moving good for you or do you even notice with all the others running over and around you?" Haha ;)

  • I do remember last pregnancy that I did kick counts once when he wasn't moving very much.  I even did the cold orange juice, laying on my left side and he just wouldn't move.  It must have been a lazy moving day for him because it took him a while to get going after that - totally freaked me out because it was not in his nature.  Almost went to L&D.

  • When do they start checking your dilation?

I honestly don't remember with my first but I know with the ones following its been a little sooner. With this one my dr will start checking at 30 weeks which is also when I'll start going every 2 weeks.

  • Not until the weekly appointments for me. They want to keep unnecessary germs out. And checks are usually optional - a lot of times they can give you unnecessary anxiety since you can be at a few centimeters for weeks.

That is a very good question!  I'm curious to know too- wondering if I will be checked sooner because of my previous pre-term birth.  By time my water broke and I got to the hospital I was dialated 5.5 cm, and hadn't felt a single contraction!

  • I have no idea what to expect honestly. I asked my doctor what appointments look like going forward and all she said was they'd measure my stomach and maybe do a growth ultrasound a little later. I go in December 21st at 28 weeks and then will be biweekly from there on out. I know they check that so I'd like to have some heads up butttttt it sounds like they'll just do it differently case by case.
  • My doctor starts checking at 36 weeks. They will check sooner if there are complications or a reason to check, like if you think you are having contractions. If you have a c section scheduled, a lot of times they won't check at all though. But it just depends on the practice.

  • So I intend to do this whole thing unmedicated, and no matter what no one is sticking a needle in my back!! So epidural is out, but I know there are other options to help take the edge off. Has anyone used any of these other options and have any insight for a FTM? I plan to ask my midwife (if I can ever remember!) but would like to hear personal opinions too :)

  • I think my doctor started checking around 36 weeks. Maybe 37?
  • @CecilB93 when i had DS I started out with hot bottles and acupuncture, then I used the tub and after that I had the laughing gas. I found all of them to be helpful at certain points during my labor, but I ended up getting an epi in the end since my labor was quite long and I desperately needed some sleep and rest.
  • @bntfroggie I feel gross because I haven't been waxed since I was about 11 weeks so I reeeeeaaaallly need to go back but was too embarrassed because I was too...er....leaky? down there. Now that issue isn't so bad so I'm going to go again but won't opt for the full brazillian, I'll just do an extended bikini maybe.

I intended on a med-free birth too, and I definitely wanted to avoid an epidural. I ended up with incredible hip pain (so bad I couldn't stand or walk even earlier in labor). I was practically delirious from pain by the time I was 7 cm dilated. I had 2 small doses of something (unfortunately I can't remember the name) a couple of hours apart that took the edge off the pain. I was still totally awake and present and in pain, but it was more manageable. I worried about drugs and the effect on the baby, because I'd read that they can make newborns more groggy and even mess with breastfeeding? But it wasn't a big deal. I think it had worn off before I started pushing.

So not entirely med-free, but I don't look back on childbirth with any regrets because I had some pharmaceutical help :). I'm going into this one with a med-fre
