Re: Question Thread - "Stupid" or not - just ask away

  • OK, calling all second + time mothers out there.....the past two days or so my abdomen has felt like it is stretched to the max. Not skin wise, but internally......I know this is probably normal, but can I expect to feel this way the rest of my pregnancy??? I seriously feel like I just ate every morsel of a ten course meal and my innards are going to explode out......lol.

  • Can someone please explain why sleeping on your back is not good?

I use to only be able to sleep on my sides but since getting pregnant I've found that sometimes laying on my back is the only way I can get any sleep.

  • @MrsPittman13 it puts pressure on a major artery. However, I've noticed that if it actually gets bad enough my body will wake me up. I've gotten to where I can only sleep on my left (it's the best for circulation) but if for some reason I do roll in the night I wake up every time.

  • When are you supposed to start looking for a pediatrician?
  • When are you supposed to start looking for a pediatrician?
You can any time...in fact the more time you have for interviewing the better (unless you're lucky to find a good one on the first shot).  If you have one lined up and they have hospital privileges, they will come look at your baby after delivery - if not, the pediatrician on call will do it.  After you delivery, you will make an appointment with the new pediatrician for about when they are 5 days old.  A lot of pediatricians/doctors can do meet and greet appointments so you can interview them.

  • All that I ever went to were free - just ask if they do courtesy meet and greets.  A lot of them will also answer emails (if you have specific questions) - our current pedi didn't do meet and greets but she went in depth in an email.

  • I got dd1 a new ped- we went for her 4yo check up today. Before this dd1 just always saw my doctor- which isn't even a dr but rather a step down. My sister took her kids to our new place before moving out of state and my obgyn actually takes her kids there too. It went great. Baby will be going there after birth. They said typically 24-48 hours after discharge( I couldn't remember from dd1.) they also said just a hospital dr will review baby after birth- only 1-2 places in a two hour radius(we live outside a fairly large city) actually send someone from their practice to the office. I'm okay with this, but didn't realize it. This might very by city, but they said it's a fairly recent thing that peds stopped doing this around here. They do all sorts of new things now days. I can create an online account to see all labs, X-rays, visit summaries, heights, weight, shots, past due shots or check ups, and even send in pics if we have questions while traveling, etc. or want copies of information for daycare or school and would rather email than call the office. they also have not only an after hours call center, but they take appts til 10pm 6 days a week if your schedule needs it, or if something urgent comes up (like an urgent care but u have to call ahead, they only take kids, and random people off the street can't walk in, like the crazy ppl hospitals always get). So many changes!

  • Does anyone else have pain in their pubic bone area? The best way I can describe it is, it feels like I've got a very bad bruise. It's stiff, achy and hurts the most when I have been laying down and then go to turn over or when I go to to stand up.

I thought maybe RLP but it just seems to be in such a weird spot for that.

That sounds like the beginning of SPD/PGP to me. It's caused by the hormone relaxin which makes your joints more lax so your pelvis isn't as "stable" as usual. Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees and listening to your body during the the day.

Yeah, everything starts to 'widen' and 'spread out' to make room, especially if the baby is sitting low and as they get bigger and need more room.  There's a place where each side of your pubic bone meets (pubic symphysis, I believe?) in the middle, and this is where it spreads.  Kind of a kicked in the vag feeling.  Mine clacks together when I walk (mmmm).

Normal....lol... I had the same feeling and asked my OB about it at my last check up. Its just your body stretching out. My bruised feeling went away after a little while, so hopefully yours does too.

  • Anyone else getting one-sided back/rib pain? A co-worker told me it is intercostal (in-between the ribs) stretching. Holy cow does it hurt! The only time I can get relief is by laying down or standing up. For those of you who have had this, what gave you relief? I am currently doing yoga and considering aqua-fit.

Yes! I get this but you explained it better than I could have lol. I get while sitting at my desk and I kind of do a variation of the cat stretch while sitting down and it helps a little bit. Or just leaning to the "other" side to relieve pressure from the side that is feeling pain.

    @MrsPittman13

I have had that for a little over a month. My PT did some work to help align my pelvis, gave me some strengthening exercises, and recommended a belt. I find it hurts the most when I first stand up then fades, but if I stand too long it gets really bad. The belt seems to help somewhat.

  • BTDT moms: Do you use a purse and a diaper bag or just the diaper bag?

Never both at the same time. Just put the right things in the bag I planned to use. Tried to use purse more often than diaper bag because it's heavy. Would also tuck things in stroller baser or ergo pocket to avoid DB.

I haven't carried a purse in years lol. I use a diaper bag and add the few essentials I need to the ever growing essentials the kids need. ;)

Also a FTM and this started for me at 19 weeks. Go ahead and buy some night time nursing bras and get some breast pads. Welcome to the yucky side
  • @flowerpower5838 yes and no :) If I'm going to church and the diaper bag stays in the nursery, I bring my purse.  If I'm headed out on errands, I put my wallet in the diaper bag (or just credit card in pocket).

Just a diaper bag. If I'm headed somewhere without a kid (!!!) I just move my keys, wallet, and phone from the diaper bag to a small purse or something.

I've found that I really like having a diaper bag that has one or two outside pockets that I can use for just my stuff, so I can easily transfer it or grab it if needed

  • You know how your keel muscles get sore when you hold your pee too long....

I have that feeling all the time... but I am peeing all the time... then when I have to pee it hurts (achey not burn) and it takes a few seconds for me to relax and go...

Is this par for the course and should I expect this till March?

l always have lower back pain so I wouldn't notice but no cramping other then when baby gets into a bad position (I can feel her moving around).  Its not a burn at all more like a dull ache like a charley horse.  I have never had a UTI but as of Friday my urine was clear (they check every time in the UK)

  • Does anyone else's baby get shy when someone else tries to feel them move? Little girl will kick me all day and night but as soon as DH lays his hand on her she stops. It's starting to bother him a little and I feel bad.
Whenever DH feels he always presses too hard and I think she knows it isn't me.  So I take his hand and reposition it lighter and she usually gives him a good show.

It doesn't always burn for me with a UTI, but I do get sharp back pain with cramping.  But if you've had it for a while and your tests are clear, then it might just stick around, especially when baby gets wedged in there and pressing up against nerves.

  • Ok, so I've got one. My bump has been noticeable for a few weeks and this week (in my 25th week) it has been extra noticeable. Until this morning. I could totally hide that I'm pregnant - it's just a itty bitty bump all the sudden.

So I am telling myself this is completely normal and that she's probably just sitting back or in a different position. Maybe what I'm wearing is making my bump look smaller, too? I've been feeling her kick this morning and all like normal. I'm just a little weirded out by the disappearing bump.

Anyone else have widely fluctuating bumps? I've consistently been smaller in the morning and bigger in the evening with bloat, but not this small in weeks. I've only gained about 10 lbs at this point, too.
  • How is your pelvis feeling?  Baby could have dropped down into there a little.  Are you waddling at all?  I tend to look "smaller" as I get into the 30s but that's only because baby is dropping and engaging.
