SAHM with three part-time gigs. I nanny. I instruct at a byob painting place. I sell homemade headbands to people and a boutique. In my previous life I was in special events and wine sales.
This is hard to answer! So ditto to @BeachTigress - I make more than DH right now. I'm hoping he gets some good promotions soon!
@IB113 I'm an attorney too, although I don't practice (don't know how you put up with it!!!).
Right now I work for a dialysis provider running a team that helps patients navigate the insurance system and obtain premium assistance. I used to negotiate contracts for an insurance company and miss the feeling I get when I see ink at the bottom of the page!
I guess I'm sill trying to find where I really fit.
ETA: @Taymiller Yay for Chem Es! My hubby went to engineering school, but ended up in business. Some of our best friends are his old buddies from Rose Hulman.
I am a SAHM. We rarely stay at home, we do dance class, library programs, swimming and anything else we can fit in! I quit my job as a high school math and science teacher to be a full time mom, I wouldn't trade it for the world! I feel my degree will be so useful with my children and I have a wonderful husband who whole heartedly supports any decision I make in regards to my career.
Domestic Violence Victim Advocate for a non profit. Nothing set in stone yet but seriously considering the SAHM thing... DH makes great money and should be in line for another bonus in the next six months.
I am a kindergarten teacher! I love my crazy kiddos even though some days they drive me crazy! I couldn't see myself doing anything else than teaching and being a mom!
I'm a SAHM and full time student. I got pregnant with DS when I was a freshman and put off college for a while. Decided to go back full time and whoops! Found out I'm pregnant again. I'm pursuing my degree in Family and Consumer Science. I want to teach high school home ec. I have about 2-3 years left. Depends how many hours I take a semester.
I quit my FT job in October to pursue the dream job of being a self-employed therapist. So far, so good. I love choosing my own hours and will have flexibility when I do decide to go back to work. Bad part- no FMLA. Any other self-employed ladies out there? For the nannies/childcare workers, will it be hard to find sitters if my schedule is not regular when I go back to work?
@austinjl- I am a child care worker and it really depends on your center. Most places offer part time and do prefer the kiddos being there on a regular schedule (same days each week). It makes it easy to schedule teachers and it's much easier for the child to have a regular routine.
On that note...I work at a childcare! Lol I am currently working with the two year olds, but I've worked with infants, toddlers, and 3-5 year olds. I have my teaching license and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction which I use as the curriculum coordinator at work. I look over the lesson plans for each room. I'll probably only be able to take 2 months off bc we can't afford more than that, but my husband is trying to find out if he can get more paid time off (my time is unpaid).
I have been a SAHM for 4 years now. Prior to that I worked FT in advertising for 10 years, went part time for a few months after baby #2 but then moved across country and never went back to work. I'd like to get my masters in the near future.
I manage our regional (12 county wide) employment office specifically for employers. We administer testing for applicants, review applicants, host job boards, do recruitment events...we are pretty much just an arm of our regional employers hr departments. It's crazy and something new everyday, but I love it-most days! This is a new job from my last pregnancy and I had high Bp last time around just from genetics, this time I think my job will play a large factor in that and I'm worried about that...
I'm a licensed clinical social worker. I currently have worked at a special ed school for the past 5 years. My students all have either a diagnosis of autism, behavioral disturbance (or both). I really love my job. I do individual and group therapy, as well as social skills groups. Basically I have the chance to hang out with some really cool kids all day. I've worked with all types of age groups since I've been at the school (from K-12). Currently I work with all high school boys.
I am in early intervention working specifically with kids (birth-3) who are deaf or hard of hearing. My degree is in speech therapy but I never pursued my masters.
I teach physical education and also have a degree in athletic training and practice sparingly. I currently teach elementary PE 2 days and at the college level 3 days and serve as the athletic director at the school. It is currently way too much and have been planning to teach 3 days a week next year at the university and that be it.
I'm a 4-H Extension Agent. I absolutely love my job, but I'm not looking forward to going to camp at eight months pregnant in June. That's going to be rough.
So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"
I am a commercial interior designer. I design offices, libraries, performance halls, churches, etc. I love my job but am nervous about finding work life balance without dropping the ball at work!
PS. Interior design on HGTV is NOT real interior design.
me 30; DH 35 TTC since May 2014. Aug 2014 BFP, EDD April 22, 2015. Low progesterone, started suppositories. Loss at 5w6d. Nov 19, 2015 BFP at 13 dpo, EDD July 29, 2016. MMC discovered 12/29 (9+4). Natural miscarriage 1/16 (12+1). AMH results 0.42, 1.2; FSH 12.1, AFC 10, dx DOR. RPL testing results normal. Nurse recommended progesterone suppositories in TWW. Clomid + trigger + TI cycle August 2016 - failed. Thin lining. Femara + trigger + TI cycle December 2016 - failed. Thin lining. Short LP (8 days). Acupuncture & Chinese herbs starting January 2017, lengthened LP to 10 days
@AL_TwinCities My cousin's wife was too - she mainly did hospitals and other hc providers. She was constantly explaining to people that it was not all about picking curtains and throw pillows!
I'm a Key Account Manager for a snack food company (chips!). I manage the sales and marketing plans with a few major grocery and convenience customers. I've only worked at my current company for a little under 4 months. At my old job we were seriously considering me staying home after #2 but I really like this job and company and I make a lot more money than I used to so I don't really want to give it up. I live in Canada so I'll take my year maternity leave and decide closer to my return date.
Orlando theme park tickets inside a 5 star resort where I'm also considered the hotel concierge. I help people make memories. I love it, and the commission ain't bad
I am also an RN. I rotate through a trauma unit and emerg. I also do a couple days a week in DI where I do PICC line placements. Looking for something less shift worky in the coming years. Considering a job in the OR/recovery room.
I was a classroom teacher for years, but I had a terrible time going back to work after DD. I worked for a year and hubs business did so well that I got that beautiful green light to stay home. I'm super thankful especially with our new baby dolphin on the way! I sew children's and some adults clothing. I also watch a few kids during the week as well as I sell Mary Kay. I don't make as much money as I did teaching....which was nothing!....but I wouldn't trade it for the world!
I'm a pathologist---the doctor who works to give you the diagnosis when you have a biopsy or lab test done. I love what I do, and plan on going right back to it---plus my med school loans are way too huge to think about staying home.
Ditto @lcking82 4 years out of state for a JD/MBA? Um, yeah, my student loans are bigger than my first mortgage was! Part of the deal with deciding to go to school was me knowing I'd always want to work, regardless of kids, so I'm in it for the long haul.
I'm also an MD - finishing my ER residency in July. Not looking forward to the rough shifts late in pregnancy (or now with ms for that matter!) but I got a great job where I can delay my start date for a real maternity leave, which is generally lacking for physicians.
@lcking82 - I feel you on loans My MIL is a pathologist too and still loves it!
Ah! A fellow CM. I used to work directly for the big cheese, now I just sell his tickets, along with Shamu's and Harry Potter's for a third party company. Money is MUCH better. Though the perks as a CM was very nice!
I'm 26, husband is 27. We've been married for 5 years, together for 12.
He works in insurance and I'm an LVN at an assisted living. I'm part time with 8 hour day shifts. It's pretty cushy, and the money is not bad. I'd love to stay home when the baby comes but it might be difficult. We live close to the LA area and cost of living is very high.
I had a mc early in October at 10 weeks, mmc at 7. This time, I'm much more worried about everything. Just praying that everything goes well and trying to be patient for my U/S on Monday.
I like threads like this. Interesting to see all the different jobs out there!
I'm a registered nurse as well (lots of us here!) I am currently casual because in this area it's hard to find a permanent line unless you have lots of seniority, and unfortunately I lost all my seniority when I switched health authorities when we moved a year and a half ago. I kind of jump around but currently I work mostly in community care nursing, I cover shifts in a variety of different areas so every day is different - lots of wound care, palliative care, helping with discharge planning from the hospital, case management for seniors in assisted living facilities, etc. I also sometimes work in a Residential Care home which I don't love but it's okay.
I'll continue working after this next baby, but in Canada we get a year of maternity leave so it'll be a while. Unfortunately being casual I won't get paid by my workplace for my mat leave but I will still get the government benefits/pay for the year.

Well if you ever find yourself in CA we will have to do a disney day
I recently quit my job of 6 years as a House Manager for a private family estate where I basically held all the jobs of every "downstairs" character in Downton Abbey. One great thing about it was the flexibility and, I brought my son with me almost every day for the first 3 1/2 years of his life.
Now, after taking the giant leap for happiness, I am a Resident Costume Designer for a children's theatre downtown! Took a huge, huge, HUGE pay cut, but the happiness I feel every day is unbeatable. Plus I've had the opportunity to be in some shows, and my son has seen me perform. And it makes my heart swell seeing his sweet smile from stage. It is truly amazing to finally get a job that is in line with my BFA after so many years of working for the money and thinking it was to late to make a change.
The low stress and happiness paid off and resulted in the new "WeeOne in Residence!" ♡♡♡
I'm a personal trainer and group ex instructor, and on top of that I work for my dad's IT company as their admin/AR/AP/everything else under the sun. I do that from home and make my own schedule every week, so when baby comes, I can still work and mommy at the same time @HRiely I've seen The Joint around where I live (just moved to California about a year ago), been meaning to check it out since I used to see a chiropractor regularly back in MA
I'm a maintenance helper for my local municipality. I'm pretty much the person who cleans halls, moves the nets while the zamboni is flooding the ice, scoops you-don't-want-to-know out of the pools... It's not glamorous but I don't mind the work and it pays pretty well. I'm full time so I get benefits and paid vacation which is great. My only issue with it is that the shift work really takes a toll on your body. It was exhausting before I got pregnant and now some days I don't know how I'm going to manage the next few months.
