Tip: many bottles can be pumped into directly. You don't have to pump into separate bottles. You can do pump into the storage bags if you mean to freeze some milk.
@Knottie9983816 Kick counts are certainly not universally recommended, but I think they should be! You're looking for a general pattern in your baby's movement by timing how long it takes to feel ten movements, at roughly the same time of day. We're talking like, I count after lunch, not, I drop everything at exactly 12 pm to check on my baby. Anyway, you watch for a general pattern and report anything out of the ordinary to your doctor/midwife. Other instructions say to only report if you don't feel anything for two hours, on two separate occasions in a day, but if any of my babies had taken that long to move, I'm quite sure it would have been because they were distinctly not ok, because my least active baby consistently moved ten times in under 30 minutes, regardless of time of day.

My baby really only moves around at night, or if I've been on my feet too long. Like I know I'm betting exhausted, and want to sit down, then cue kicks lol. I figured that was normal, and more kicking would come about later? I'll be 23 weeks Sunday. Obviously going to not panic, but when should I be concerned about my LO being lazy? Lol

Yeah, @Knottie9983816, it's not until the third trimester that you even start looking for the patterns, because before then, they're just too small to feel consistently, even if they've developed a pattern, which many haven't.
Random things for hospital that you may not have thought of: Snacks. All the snacks Your own pillow Bedding for hubby to sleep (most have pullout beds or a couch that can turn to one) Hand towel: you're in that room for 2 ish days and you're washing your hands a LOT. Paper towels get old. Nursing pillow (Brest friend FTW) Phone charger

Adding chapstick to the list. If you do any part of your labor without drugs, like even the part between when you get to the hospital at five minutes apart until they get the anesthesiologist into your room, you're going to get really dry lips from the mouth breathing that tends to happen. I have a great picture of myself 40 hours into my third labor, in the birth pool, clutching the pomegranate Burts Bees lip balm that was my best friend.
Looking back, I had the shakes after labor, but I had no idea it could be related to pitocin. I thought it was from the 30 hours a fun I'd just experienced
STMs+ : What are your thoughts on 'breathable"crib mattresses?
My local baby boutique store offers the Nook Pebble mattresses. While I think it is great that the baby can breathe right through it, I am wonder how practical it is, since to be able to take advantage of the breathability we cannot put regular sheets or waterproof pads over the mattress. What if the kid drools, diaper leaks, etc…? Then one would have to have multiple pebble covers which go by $100 each?
Does anyone have experience with this? Yay or nay?

I'd say total waste of money personally, just put baby on their back to sleep.

Ditto. Get a movement monitor instead. I was obsessed with our Angelcare breathing monitor and only got a false alarm (twice) when she started moving around a lot. She was about 6 ish months old then if i can remember.

We never had one of these, but I have heard many people complain of it going off frequently when nothing was wrong (false alarms). If you are using a crib, no bumpers or loose bedding, no smoking household, baby sleeping on back, etc... you really don't need to worry.

If you position the sensor correctly you shouldn't get false alarms. A lot of the complaints I've seen are people trying to use it with thick bedding or placing the sensors wrong.
If you want a movement monitor get the snuza that hooks to their diaper or that new one that goes on their foot under a sock. That way they can't roll off of it. We had a snuza and only got false alarms once he was older and mobile (don't remember when but def over 6 months).we stopped using it but felt less paranoid because he was mobile.

The one that goes under the sock is the owlet. I asked about this a few days ago but I think it got buried. My husband and I are thinking about getting one but wonder if anyone has used one before? Seems worth it to me but would love feedback if anyone has any.

We have a regular video monitor and that was more than enough for me once she was in her own room. We still use it to check in on her (because cute) or to see if she got a leg stuck in the crib. If you're very nervous or plan to have baby in a different room from day 1, the movement ones could be worth the peace of mind, but I can't justify the expense for just a few months.
As for video monitors, I think we're going to switch to a wifi home security system (like Foscam) instead of an actual baby monitor because it's the same price to buy two cameras as it is to buy an additional camera for our current monitor, and we can just use our phones as the receivers.

Careful with the wifi ones, I've been reading a few articles about them getting hacked and feeds being sold to child porn/fetish sites.
@spatter1 I haven't used one, but knowing how difficult it was to keep socks on DD when she was tiny, I would expect a lot of false alarms.
@mrstrax we have a foscam, but supplement it with a separate audio monitor cause the audio wasn't consistent. I have heard about them being "hacked," but I'm not really concerned about it because ours is just a local IP setup and has a password plus even if "they" got in, they're not going to see much. People post clearer and more revealing ultrasounds on here every day.

We did exactly what you did with foscam plus sound. Then stopped sound after a few months of consistent sttn. DH has a degree in computer science and has a patent out on something or other with computer security (I can't keep track of everything he does), so I trust he made it secure.
I think the owlet is a waste of money. The movement monitors are fine because of sids risk etc but here is no need to know all that info: heart rate, Temp, rem patters, etc. Just more to obsess about! I'm all for excessive baby purchases (we have four strollers including the bugaboo donkey lol) but I seriously think the owlet is just superfluous. I'd stick with foscam and snuza.

This information is all really helpful/horrifying! I think I need to start making a list of things to remember so I can bring it to the hospital with me.
I don't think this has been asked but the search function kind of sucks so here goes! My question is about baby monitors. Has anyone heard of/used an owlet baby monitor? It's relatively new I think and it's a little sock you put on your baby's foot while they sleep. It monitors oxygen levels and heart rate to help prevent SIDS. The worrier in me feels like this is something we should definitely buy, but I would love to hear if anyone has experience with one? Here's a link in case anyone is interested: https://www.owletcare.com
I'm re quoting you because I didn't see anyone respond and I'm curious as well. If I missed the response, my apologies!
Does anyone have a suggestion on diaper stockpiling? How many of each size to buy? Which size the kids are in the longest?
This differs a ton from kid to kid, same with brands. DD has been in 3s for nearly a full year now, and spent about 3 months each in NB/1/2. Our nephew, on the other hand, wore 3 NB diapers total and was in 6s by 18month old.
Does anyone have a suggestion on diaper stockpiling? How many of each size to buy? Which size the kids are in the longest?
Personally I never got the whole diaper stockpiling. Probably because I hate having to return things. As long as you have one box of NB and one box of size 1 you're at least set for when baby comes home.
@kalanieileen thanks for bumping my post! I also re-posed the the question earlier today when monitors came up in a different question. A few ladies responded through right above your post. Check 'em out! Would still welcome more feedback, of course!

Sales.
@yodiggity If you buy diapers from Target or one of the baby stores, just DO NOT open the boxes... they will let you exchange the same brand/package size for a different diaper size. I had to do that with my son because I got so many sizes 1s, and he just wasn't in them as long as I thought. Honestly it depends on the kid. Rhys has been in size 6 diapers for as long as I can remember at this point, maybe a year? But some kids never even get to that size! I say go ahead and buy a few big boxes of each, and don't get *too* many newborn. They just grow so quickly!

How can you tell the difference between discharge and amniotic fluid?
As we all know, discharge increases during pregnancy which is fine, but leaking fluid is a no-no...my midwife gave the unhelpful answer of 'you'll know the difference when it comes' - hoping you can give a little more insight than that?

We CDed mostly at the beginning so I can't help with numbers
I also don't get stockpiling. There always were sales and deals and coupons for diapers. I also gave limited discreet storage space.
