Hi! My baby boy is just two weeks old and I have really been trying to breastfeed but I have a low supply. We are supplementing him to make sure he is fed and nourished but I'm not ready to give up just yet. I have met with a lactation consultant but wanted to see if anyone had anything that worked to help increase supply. Any ideas are welcome!! Thanks so much!
Re: Low milk supply
Hope this helped.
Good luck!
I'm nursing on both sides at every feed for 15 minutes each side then pumping for 10 minutes on both sides. If LO is still hungry I feed him what I pumped after his feed.
I'm taking more milk plus pills from mother love which have a bunch of herbs that are good for breast milk production. I increased the amount of food I am eating, added oatmeal to the mix, and doubled the water I'm drinking. I also take feeding me more seriously as I was pretty much starving myself to feed LO in the first 2 weeks.
For 2 days I did 'power pumping' pump for 20 minutes on both sides then rest for 10, pump for 10, rest for 10, and then pump for 10. It was a gruesome schedule that I wouldn't have been able to do had my husband not been home so I suggest a weekend if your DH is back at work already.
Some other people have suggested eating dates and drinking cranberry juice.
Oh and if you are using a shield ditch it. After the power pumping I didn't need it anyway, it pulled my flat nipples out enough to not need it.
-all this is combined from my pediatrician, a LC that came to my home and other posters from a thread I posted in the Oct 2015 birth club.
Good luck to you!
You won't lose anything by trying?
