I know that no one can answer this question for sure, but I don't know what to do! Sorry for the tmi, but when SO and I were having sex, a few minutes after he pulled out, there was a gush of a good amount of clear fluid. It definitely wasn't pee, however it doesn't smell sweet. I don't know if it was my water or something else. I am going to call the doctor, but I'm afraid of getting sent to L&D again if it's nothing, especially because SO will have to take off of work again.

Could it have been you or SOs, ahem, love juice? lol.
This might be TMI, but the last few times we were intimate (god, they seem so long ago...) afterwards I would have a big increase in discharge. It was alarming and kind of gross at first..

I think this far along especially, you would be right to make sure it's not amniotic..
Haha I don't think so. It was very watery and it was like a good cup full of liquid (unless my discharge is just that much I'm not sure). I'll call and ask thanks!

I'd say make a trip to l&d but it really could have been ahem yours and his juices. Last time DH and I had lovings it was pretty wet down there when he pulled out

  • Braxton hicks have returned in full force today after a pretty quiet last couple weeks. Here's to hoping it means baby girl will be on her way soon! Getting so anxious being off work. Not sure why I thought it was a good idea to take off early! Ahhhh.
  • That's horrible @mercyc1130. I'm so sorry you're going through that!

I'm 40+3 today and am having a huge nesting binge. Hoping to have the apartment spotless before I go to bed tonight. I just have a feeling it's my last chance. Doctor's appointment tomorrow. He hasn't mentioned induction yet so I'm not sure if he prefers going to 41 or 42 weeks. He's pretty easy going though so I am sure he'll leave it up to me unless he feels there is a real medical risk. I'm so thankful for him.
I very much underestimated how important it is to really trust your doctor and get to know them! Maybe I'm being overly sensitive but it actually hurts my feelings..lol. Next time I will do a better job finding a good relationship with whoever is going to deliver and make medical decisions for my baby and body!
I definitely understand. You aren't being overly sensitive. I had a bad experience with a doctor around 16 weeks who told me my pregnancy was over because she thought I was leaking amniotic fluid. Every single time I went to her I left in tears. My husband had to speak to her during our appointments because I just couldn't, I felt so defeated. Then she put me on bedrest and her office wouldn't give me a note so I ended up having to quit my job earlier than I had planned ... and guess what ... I was never leaking! I don't understand how they can get away with treating people like that.

What the hell?! That's horrible! I hope you were able to find a new doctor.
    Wow..
    I was. Thank goodness!

A cup sounds like a lot for discharge. Try lying down on your back for a while and then getting back up again. Amniotic fluid will pool while you lie down and a little more may come out when you get up

I'll definitely do that! I've been upright since it happened, and it's not like I've had a steady leak. I've had a panty liner on and it's only a little wet so that's why I'm second guessing the water breaking because I know women usually leak afterwards. Thanks for the tip!

Well had my last appt today. She said baby dropped a lot and I decided not to get checked because I'm sure I'm at the same as last time but it doesn't really matter at this point anyways. She said I should have this baby before next week which I hope so because I'm now on the schedule to be induced next Tuesday if it doesn't happen soon here.

I hope this happens naturally because with my first I was induced and that was a rough experience. She did say instead of pitocin it's a drink that you take and I wouldn't have to do any type of cervix softening as well. Has anyone have experience with this drink and how well it worked and what it is?

Is the drink castor oil? That's the only thing I could think of that would be used to induce. It also makes you shit your brains out and can increase risk of baby passing meconium in the womb (and inhaling it). I wouldn't do it, personally.

She didn't say it was castor oil which I would not do because of the reasons u said. I just can't see a doctor using that method plus she said it was a better option then pitocin and a lot easier on your body. Damn I should have asked what it was!

My guess would be oral cytotec. One way to take it is to have a crushed up tab mixed with water. It is sometimes called a slurry. Same medication you can swallow in pill form or have placed next to the cervix. It is supposed to work more steadily if given in a slurry form.

Should I time contractions even if they are painless or not very painful?
  • @lmyrmo have you used the cytotec that's what my doctor ordered for my induction next week and I am seriously freaked out?!

I had cytotec inductions with my five last deliveries. Only vaginal cytotec. I didn't have any problems. Have administered oral cytotec as a nurse and midwife though without issues. Must be used with care. You shouldn't use anything you are freaked out about. There are lots of options and perhaps if you discuss your concerns with your provider, you might be less worried?
  • @lmyrmo I got the paper work and then came home and started reading..I feel like a lot of people will only write about the negatives. I just read a lot that it's not FDA approved for labor and not actually designed for that. Definitely any info I can get my hands on I want lol
  • Holy diarrhea........ Sorry, TMI! But GOD.

They say that that could be a sign of approaching labor but I've had it for weeks

My midwife said that you should start timing when the contractions are strong enough make you stop what you're doing.

Try taking a bath or shower and see if it changes the frequency, It's a good test to see if they're the real thing. When I had false labor, a bath slowed the contractions down significantly (they were at 3-5 min).

Well this must be what they will induce me with if I don't go by next Tuesday. I really hate hearing this about the FDA. I think I will be doing some research since I know the name of the medicine. Also, I will keep checking here for experiences.

  • Well that appears to be my waters popped....got a slow leak down there. Only very infrequent contractions (or at least I think they are contractions) but yey to some progress. Bang on my due date as well hehe :)
  • Just woke up to some uncomfortable consistent cramping and a pretty bad rain storm. Fingers crossed! (:
  • Officially 40+ 4 with baby #3, I get induced on Wednesday if he hasn't made his appearance by then. Yesterday I had fairly consistent conteactions but nothing very strong then at about 7:30 they stopped a d I haven't had anything since:( beginning to look like induction it is.

I think you will find most medications used in the labor and delivery world are not specifically indicated by the fda. This includes most medications to induce, Tocolytics (meds that stop labor), medications to stop postpartum hemorrhage, medications used for infertility, lactation, preeclampsia, and so on. It is pretty interesting. While widely used and understood and well researched, they are not used for the purpose they originally set out for, they serve a purpose. By all means, do your research, ask questions, and make an informed choice, but perhaps it is best to look it up in a scholarly manner rather than looking for horror stories online. Or, if everything is medically okay, wait until you go into labor on your own. Just to put it out there, our practice doesn't push for induction until 42.6 weeks, but will offer it at 41 if desired. We do the appropriate antenatal testing to make sure things are going well with the pregnancy. But if you try hard enough, you can find something wrong with going that far too. You need to be comfortable with your decision and shouldn't feel that you are being pressured into it. I want to believe your medical staff has your best interest in mind, though I certainly know that is not a reality for all women.
  • TMI but I just emptied myself out both ends! Holy crap! I better not be barfing for no reason! :(

@lmyrmo I was looking for legitimate information not horror stories but the horror Stories did pop up. I was reading directly from the FDA site about that med. I am trying to make the best decision for me and my baby and am struggling to do that with the mix of information out there..

I don't mean to sound snooty if it does i am just having a hard time and my anxiety is amplified right now
  • I saw midwife yesterday morning and was taken off work. She guessed I'd be having baby soon (famous last words!) I was having painful, regular contractions every 5-8 minutes, nausea and hot flashes. Went home and stayed in pain, exhausted all day but things never intensified. Feeling better today, contractions are more sporadic but not as timetable. I'm 38 weeks. No loss of mucus plug or change in discharge. I'm glad baby girl is safe and comfy but now everyone from work and family is driving me crazy with texts saying, "oh my gosh! Are you about to have the baby?!!" x100, Sigh. It's going to be a long 2 weeks of waiting I'm afraid.

So glad to see everyone's posts and know I'm not alone in frustration and symptoms!
  • 40+4. Felt great yesterday. I had this really intense feeling that the baby would come soon. Had my doctors appointment today and barely anything has changed. Cervix has started to thin and she's a bit lower but still completely closed. Scheduled a NST and ultrasound for Monday. He said we'd discuss the possibility of induction at that appointment. Since I got that news I've been incredibly weepy and anxious. Not sure what to do with myself.
  • Just finished my OB appt , she has dropped lower and I'm 3cm dilated . We did another sweep and are scheduled to induce on Thursday

    How many weeks are u?

  • 39+4. Still no contractions but I've been crampy on and off almost all day today. Also I'm now finally feeling him on my bladder, so hoping that he's starting to move on down. Go back Friday which is my due date. Fingers crossed he comes this weekend!

  • This is a good thread!
This morning, I was about to get in the shower and a gush of water came out. I figured it was my water, but it ended up just being my mucus plug. My midwife said that if your plug comes out in your sleep, a lot of times it will be watery when you get up.
My question is did anyone else feel crampy after losing their plug? My midwife said it's normal, but the cramps have me feeling anxious for labor! :)

I lost my mucus plug and felt very crampy all day (I lost it first thing in the morning after peeing). It felt like a light period cramp all day. Then at 2am I went into labor the next day!

  • Le sigh.

    I feel you, sister.
  • Hey all! 38.2 here and I got checked yes testof y. I wad 3cm and 60% effaced!! Bh all day yesterday and today losing more abd more bloody show. Cant sleep anymore. Who is in the same boat?
  • 40+3 just got back from my midwife's. I was going to have her check me for the first time but I chickened out lol! I told her the past several days when it gets dark out, I get contractions and she said she loves to hear that and that's everything opening up. I told her how I (TMI) barfed my brains out and had diarrhea this morning and she said that's all a good sign and to make sure to stay hydrated. Made an appointment for next week that will hopefully be canceled due to having a baby in my arms!! Lol fingers crossed it's this week! I just want to meet my baby boy!!
  • Just an update....

Went to hospital and they confirmed my waters had broke even though initially they didn't believe me. Had no obvious contractions so been at home all day chilling out. Very uncomfortable though.

My mucus plug is now out as I just had this when I wiped just now.

I am sure I am having contractions but I don't know what to expect. They are infrequent though, maybe one every 40 mins. Its not the pain I was expecting though, it's like a sudden intense period cramp that lasts around 10-20 seconds then goes? Does that sound about right?

It's my due date today but baby won't be here on time as he only has an hour left lol so maybe tomorrow. If not I have an induction scheduled for Thursday :)
  • LO finally has an eviction date... but it feels SO FAR away. Doctor doesn't seem to think I'll even remotely go that long, but still... if I do, I don't know how I'm going to make it!
  • 39w4d and so far only 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. At least my doctor thinks I'm at 1cm. She couldn't really tell since my cervix was in the back. But on the plus side, baby girl is very far down so I'm hoping she'll be here soon. If not, we start talking about being induced at my next apt. Praying I won't need my next apt.
