Haven't had a drink since I got pregnant. Haven't really wanted one. But probably when the baby's older and I'm able to enjoy going out with friends without worrying about him so much, I'll enjoy having a beer or something now and then. Before trying to conceive I was pretty into anti-aging and energy supplements like resveratrol, probiotics, ginseng, and green coffee extract, and I also drank small amounts of red wine regularly for the health benefit. I stopped all that and went off my ADHD med when I went off my birth control a few months before I got pregnant. Now it's funny, I don't really miss all those supplements or even the ADHD med. I'm a little distractible but basically ok. I just need coffee, exercise, sleep, fish oil, and a little time without the baby to concentrate on schoolwork, and I'm fine. And I used to be interested in antiaging supplements because I felt old...but having a baby and breastfeeding makes me feel young!
Flame free, right? I don't drink. But when I'm done breastfeeding I'm looking forward to dropping LO off with my mom and smoking a J for the first time in a looooooong time. Workaholics on the DVR, some Doritos, and definitely a grape soda.
Me too, my husband things smoking an occasional j is equivalent to shooting up heroin.. Oh how I've been dreaming just 1 j, a funny movie and the best sleep in the world. Will have to wait for that girlfriends weekend away with no LO.
Thanks for all the responses!! I'm glad I'm not the only one holding back. The most I've had is 3 beers and I was SOO hungover. It was over a long span but I felt like I went overboard haha
@mishmardhiono I don't want LO to see us drunk either! I vividly remember hating my parents when they would drink. I never want my child to feel that way.
I had this in the pregnant again thread but didn't want to hyjack the original poster's topic so I have moved it.. Also, I apologize for never formally introducing myself, I'm a pretty socially awkward person so I guess I thought I could just jump right in here buuuut you guys have a pretty tight community which is awesome, and I should have had more respect for that, I'm sorry for that! ...So to introduce myself (sorry, I'm a couple months late..) my name is Ashley (obviously), I'm 28, I'm from East Tennessee, and my baby's name is Adalyn - Addy for short. She was due at the beginning of July, but was born a week early at the end of June. Ive enjoyed being part of conversations with you all so far! It's cool to get other moms' perspectives on all these different topics that we're all going through at the same time Hopefully that makes up for my lack of initial introduction..
Anyway! Here's my question: Has anyone with Mirena experienced pregnancy symptoms? I have been nauseous the past three nights like I was for this last pregnancy, have had some food aversions, and some cravings..but that could be normal, right? I'm afraid to test to see if I'm pregnant..surely it's just side effects, right? It's freaking me out.. Thanks!
eta - Also, I've had it in now for about 2 months and never experienced this til now.. I'll make an appointment tomorrow to ask my dr about it, but just wanted to ask what you guys had been through with it too..
My husband and I drink about 3 or 4 times a week. We occasionally get to the point where we feel tipsy/drunk (5 drinks max [I have a high tolerance for alcohol]) but never even close to the point where we don't feel like we could take care of our LO. I also don't get hangovers based on that amount of alcohol, so I'm not worried about middle of the night or morning. I think it just depends on your comfort level, but err on the side of caution.
Sorry I can't answer your Mirena question, @ashleymc09
We just got LO a Mam teether which has a handle on one end and a cold, liquid filled other end. It's great for his teething pain but he flails it around and bashes his poor little face.
I say, let him learn, he's ok. DH says it's irresponsible to let your baby hit himself in the face.
What do you ladies do when your kid gets wound up with a toy?

Our LO is pretty violent but seems to love it, if she bangs her head hard enough whilst crawling she will cry so o figure if she's not crying whacking herself then it doesn't matter, if she does hurt herself then we will soothe her and let her get back to it. I see hurting yourself as a part of development, actions reactions consequences etc But obviously within reason. We wouldn't let her seriously injure herself though
@virginiaunicorn11 My LO hits himself in the head while nursing all the time with the teather ring necklace I have. Drops it on himself while holding it up, etc. I say weigh pros/cons and I'd personally would want the help with the teething pain most of all
@ashleymc09 welcome to the board! Its hard for me to answer this question because other than extreme exhaustion I didn't have many pregnancy symptoms. I have been especially tired a lot recently, but of course now I can't just crash out on the couch. However, its a general agreement all of our hormones are still all out of whack right now, so maybe that's why you're feeling so weird. I certainly hope part of that is related to my exhaustion now - my baby is a good sleeper and I really shouldn't have a reason to be so tired, but I'm struggling a lot.
@virginiaunicorn11 I have that exact same teether, and the exact same event happened yesterday while DH was watching LO and I was in the shower. Apparently LO bonked himself in head a good one and went nuclear crying. I'm still going to use the teether, tho. And you can tell your DH, you guys may as well get to it now, as I'm sure we are in for a long while of our kids hitting themselves in the face - maybe our STMs can back me up on this one. Consider henrytviii's goose egg. I'm also thinking that each bonk is a learning experience.
I use the Sophie the giraffe Teether and a cool rattle/Teether I found on Amazon that LO loves called the Manhattan toy winkel rattle. He doesn't go crazy with his toys hitting himself bc he just wants to eat everything. The Sophie I watch bc I don't want him poking himself in the eye. I normally give him the smaller Sophie giraffe with the handles though.
I'm glad this is flame free because I feel silly asking - do you ladies put teething toys in the fridge or freezer?
LO has two teething toys we put in the freezer. At first he was not to keen on the cold but now loves them! We also have an infantino teether that when lo bites down on vibrates, he really loves this one!

I have two teethers, and one says fridge only, no freezer. So I put them both in the fridge. I also have some notion in my head that stuff from the freezer will be TOO cold. I mean, when we are icing a sprained joint or something, aren't we 'supposed' to wrap our ice packs in towels or whatever so the super frozen cold whatever isn't right against the skin?
My kid doesn't bonk himself in the head with toys, but he tries to suffocate himself. He has an elephant lovie that he puts over his face and he puts the burp cloth over his face. We move it and he does it again. He thinks it's hysterical.

) Worried about a teether?! I could fill several pages with face-only injuries DS has inflicted on himself. One of his front teeth is chipped and the other is dead from two separate incidents where he fell on his face. Multiple face contusions, goose eggs, etc. One serious head laceration, but that happened when a girl at daycare hit him in the head with a shovel. I'm pretty sure he was NOT an innocent bystander. Point being, you can't prevent it. Knock on wood, no stitches. Yet.
ETA I forgot about the time he tried to "smell" a cactus after repeatedly being told not to touch it.
I'm trying to quote myself talking about LO pulling blankets over his face.
So I was washing his bottle and I hear him begin to fuss in the living room, and I get there and lo and behold - the blanket is over his face and he's just laying there going 'ooh ooh ooh ooh' (that's his 'don't like it' noise) with his hands at his sides. Dude - you put it there in the first place. Move it! And besides, wasn't part of the last leap supposed to help them learn that skill (to move stuff away from their face)?
Well my LO likes to smack ME in the face, that's her new trick. DH thinks it's funny.
In general she just likes to flail her arms akimbo! She hits her bottle with her hand, it's so strange. And she also hits herself in the stomach when I'm changing her. ??
Anyway, yes, my DH is ridiculously overprotective of his little boy. Thank you for validating my exasperation, ladies! Sammy K, you need to write a book. You're hilarious!!
It my kid! He's hilarious even though he drives me up a tree. I am also of the parenting philosophy to let him learn for himself (within reason) so that definitely allows for some of these things to happen. I really need to get more of his stories written down so I don't forget. I've been blessed with two good natured kids.
It is amazing how happy she is now. I kinda wonder if she felt bad for so long that now every day is a party. Daycare just loves her and even at her last appointment, the nurses commented on how happy and chatty she was. I also wonder if she was reflecting my PPD. I'm just glad we're both in a better place.
@Sammy K you don't know how happy this makes me to read that. It was so heartbreaking to read through your struggle everyday because there was nothing I could do. I just wanted to give you a huge hug...regardless I am so happy things have turned around. You are an amazing, strong woman and she is so beautiful!

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
So LO has a small cut on her finger, either from scratching it or biting it. It seems like it's not healing because her hand is constantly in her mouth. Is there anything I can do to help it heal?
I second @dancegurl1118 I remember reading your posts @Sammy K and praying for you and your LO. You ended up cutting your diet down to the bare bones right? Did you end up determining what was giving her such a hard time? I'm so happy things have turned around!
I'm thirding what dancegurl said, @Sammy K . I'm just so glad that you guys got it all worked out. I'm also curious to know if you found out what her aversions are, tho
@hoodoll82 sorry, I don't mean to make fun, but immediately I thought of 'put an e-collar (the cone you put on dogs) on her!'
Now that she's older, I've been able to add most foods back in. Dairy seems to be the worst, followed by gluten so I still can't eat those. For a while, it was also any fibrous foods like beans, oats, berries, onions, spinach, peppers, tomatoes, etc. Most of those are fine now, but beans cause an increase in BM's and really make her stink. Oh, I can eat butter. That's actually really helpful.
We're weaning her off her prescription this week and so far so good. If at a year dairy still causes problems, I'm going to ask for a GI referral. The funny thing is I'm realizing I probably have a dairy intolerance, too. But man, do I miss cheese.
This broken quote issue on the Bump sucks. Anyway. @Sammy K it just seems like it's not healing. Her finger is always in her mouth while she self soothes at night, maybe I can sneak in after she falls asleep and put some lanolin on it!
Hi ladies, does your countries have a supply issue on formula? In Australia there is no formula left, if we see some on the shelves we have to buy up because it could be 2 months before its back on the shelves. It's all being bought by Chinese and being sold on eBay for 4x the price. Is it only Australia having this problem or are other western countries suffering it too? It's so stressful if you are down to 2 tins..

This made me laugh out loud and wake up my kid
ETA I had added the picture of DS with his cactus face, but the new text box ate it. Womp womp.
