  • @virginiaunicorn11 I love the merlin suit and do find that it runs true to size. It does shrink a bit if dried, even on low. You stop using the suit once baby is able to roll with it on. I third what pp said about looking for a used one to try out before shelling out 40 bucks.

  • Thanks, ladies! @mellymar your point about rolling was the most convincing part. Wish I'd tried it a month or two ago when y'all told me to!!! Will keep an eye out for a second hand one, but if he shouldn't roll... Love this place, thank you!
May be too late for you, but but now all the August lurkers will benefit from your question :)

  • does anyone else's LO have a poop day? mine will go days without a dirty diaper, then all of a sudden goes through 3 within 6 hours. its crazy. especially because I usually only change him 3 times a day total. X_X

^ how do you only change him three times a day? I'm changing a diaper every two hours.

my LO doesn't mind a wet diaper. i change him when we wake up at 7, at 12pm or 1pm then before bed at 6:30

but if we are going somewhere and hes going to be in the carrier ill change him before we leave then around 3pm or so (and before bedtime again)
  • Does he get diaper rash a lot?

not that i know of. i haven't seen anything

3 A DAY? This is concerning, he's either not eating enough or he's sitting in wet diapers ... I would discuss this with your peds
Is it a cost issue? i really can't imagine letting mine sit in a wet diaper for hours.
  • I have this problem with the person who watches lo on Friday. She doesn't change her unless it's super full. I on the other hand change her about every 2 hrs on average. It had caused a rash once or twice, which made me feel bad for her.
But getting back to the original question my lo does only poop maybe twice a week and once she works up one usually an hr later another one follows.

    This.
  • Besides what others have said, @JessHeppell, my LO will go several days without pooping then go three times in a morning or day.

    Same here!

We normally feed baby girl 3 ounces of pumped breastmilk every three hours during the day but in the last week we increased to 4 ounces because the 3 wasnt satisfying her anymore. My local WIC office told me that's way too much and that I should be matching the ounces to her age. For example, 1 ounce for a one-month-old, 2 ounces for two-month-old, and so on. They said that although she'll take whatever I give her, I may be causing weight issues for her later on down the road. However at her last visit to the pediatrician I told them we were doing 3 ounces every three hours and they said that was perfect. I'm frustrated and not sure who to believe. My little girl will be 3 months on Monday. Do you all remember how much you were feeding your LOs at that age?

ETA: The pediatrician said the 3 ounces every three hours was perfect when she was two months old.

@swaugh14 she will absolutely stop feeding when she's had enough. For example tonight at her last feeding I offered her 4 ounces and she only took 3. I feel like they are out of touch every time I go there but then again I'm a FTM so I can't turn my nose up at everything.

@dalinhardt I know, you're right. The confidence part of motherhood is something I'm still working on. I'm slowly locking it down!
  • That sounds crazy @messymolly08 you feed your baby whatever it needs. My 4 month old has been eating 4 ounces every 3 hours since 2 months. I had to increase it to 5 ounces this past week. A breastfed baby shouldn't eat more than he needs so if that's what your LO needs than feed your LO. Listen to your pediatrician and you baby, not WIC on this one.
  • @messymolly08 when my baby was less than a month old I was giving him 2oz bottles of formula. So WIC doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. If WIC continues to five you grief, ask your pedi to put something in writing for you.

Our pedi said to take their weight and divide by 2. So if your babe is 12 lbs their stomach can fit roughly 6 ounces at a feed. That seems to work for us.
  • @messymolly08 At 3 months, my LO was eating 4 ounces every 3-4 hours. At 4 months, she eats 5-6 ounces each feed and at night, she typically eats 5 ounces at 4:30 and then eats 7 ounces between 6 and 6:30. That's 12 ounces in less than 3 hours. She's in the 60% for weight and our ped is perfectly happy.

We use the same estimate as @hoodoll82. She's a little over 14 lb, so a 7 ounce bottle isn't a problem.

Perfect example of my mommy brain-- Lexie's in the 50th percentile! I could've used that as ammo when they started in on me. And to soothe my own worries. Geez
  • @messymolly08, generally speaking I'd be more apt to listen to a doctor vs. a random person (and I know ironically I'm also a random person dishing out an opinion ;) ), assuming the doctor made sense.  In addition to what others have already said, if you're worried about giving your LO more than they need (feeding to satisfaction vs. very full), maybe try paced bottle feeding (if you aren't currently).  It helps your LO control the intake a bit more.

he is sitting in a wet diaper, he just doesn't mind it and he is definitely eating enough, he's almost 20 lbs and will be 4 months tomorrow. we dont have problems with leaks or diapers being too heavy. if hes peed a little more than usual ill change him an extra time that day, but other than that hes not bothered, we've never had a rash.

@messymolly08 At 2-3 months my baby ate 6 ounces every 3 hours, he eats 4-5 now at 5 months. He's been 95%+ in weight/height since 2 months old.. He's 20 pounds now and eats less than he did at 3... That being said, pps are right in that you have to watch your baby they will let you know what they need in that moment in time. Don't listen to statistics and literature, be in tune to your baby
  • @rrcameron21 I haven't been drunk since baby. And the most I had at once is 2 1/2 drinks which made me feel tipsy. I made dh watch her for a few hrs that night. So I understand your fear.
My question is for ep mama's have any of your supplies increased due a recent growth spurt? My boobs had been regulating themselves the past 3 weeks since starting work. But this week I went to producing about 10 oz more a day and feeling engorged most of the time.
No one seems to be doing the feeding l/o thread this month. So didn't know where this goes.
  • A last point on diapers - the company's website will provide a minimum number of diapers that babies should be going through. For Pampers, it's 6-7. I thought that was really low but I think I might just have a heavy peer with my LO.

@JessHeppell even if LO doesn't seem to mind, I'd recommend checking with the company and at least using their minimum recommended amount.

@rrcameron21 I'm EBF so haven't been drunk in a million years, but I used to rage it. Rather irresponsibly. But no, taking care of the baby while drunk is not something DH and I do. (I'm mentioning my old habits because I feel I am way more tolerant of alcohol use in my life than many other people are.)

    Flame-free anecdote:
I once asked DH to hold the baby in bed, early morning, after a long night of tequila drinking (him, not me). Neither of us realized he was still drunk. He sat LO up, and then laughed when LO toppled over. I grabbed the baby, and even though no harm no foul, it was a great lesson for us. Drunks have terrible judgment. DH hasn't been drunk since then (2 months ago).
  • @rrcameron21 I have also had some drinks but have not gotten drunk since LO. I did get a smidge tipsy once or twice but each time DH was here and wasn't as bad as me. Even tho, to put it into perspective, I felt pretty much right as rain within the hour. I honestly wouldn't even call it a proper tipsy. Just was at that point where I began to feel a bit of change. I'm also fairly tolerant of alcohol use, but I'm not knocking back shots or anything

  • @rrcameron21 last night was the most I've drank since LO and I only had 2 glasses of wine (the second was a very full glass though). I then drank a water and felt okay by the time we got home. So, yes, it makes me nervous. I get really bad hang overs too, and that makes me even more nervous.

I think I change LO's diaper too often... He just loves to be nekkid!! It makes me happy.

I know we've talked a lot about alcohol on these threads but I have this irrational fear of getting drunk now that LO is in the picture. Do you ladies take care of LO while drunk? I'm scared I'm going to drop him or something! Forever sober.

No when I decide I want to drink again (we formula feed) then I'll make sure LO isn't around. Half is a selfish thing of if I'm going to get drunk I want to be sleeping in and be hungover in peace the other is I don't feel responsible looking after a baby when I'm drunk. I'd worry I'll bring her into our bed and roll on her or something. growing up I never saw my parents drunk, and as an adult I think I've seen them drunk once or twice. I am wanting the same for LO.

With the nappy thing, change him. It would of been horrible to sit in a maternity pad for 8 hours at a time. Teach him that he should mind being unclean like that.
  • @rrcameron21 If we're drinking at home, one of gets to indulge, the other gets 1-2 drinks all night and is on parent duty. The only time we get to drink together is when the grandparents are around and we don't have to be responsible. That hasn't actually happened since LO because of breastfeeding when they're little. She's big enough now and takes bottles so the next time we get the opportunity, we'll take it.
  • Yeah honestly I'm more afraid of a really bad hangover. That would bring on one my headaches full force and them to take care of a baby... I would die.

This. I got one of the worst migraines after having two glasses of wine last week. Screaming babies and throbbing headaches are torture. Now I'm afraid to drink again. So not worth it.
