April 2016: BFP, the old fashioned way.

  • Oh @MrsHandler, I'm sorry you have to make this decision (it was one I dreaded more than anything about my six IUIs), but I'm so glad you're at peace with your decision.   And as a neonatal nurse practitioner, I absolutely agree that four is too many. Good luck to you!!

  • @MrsHandler, you have been a shining example of handling a serious situation with maturity and reason.  I'm happy that you did see heartbeats and that IUI worked for you, but am sorry you having to deal with this after having gone through the battle of getting pregnant to begin with.  Wishing you the best over the next weeks.
  • I have been following your story- you guys are so brave and I wish you the best!
  • Thank you all so much for the kind words.  I don't think there is any other way to be than strong in this situation.  I know many do not agree with what we are choosing to do, but for us it is the right decision.  If I had to go back I probably would have cancelled the IUI and maybe just BD or cancel altogether but now with the potential of two healthy babies its hard for me to regret going forward.
  • Nobody knows your situation.  You have to do what is right for you.  If I was in your situation I would probably do the same thing.
  • You are so incredibly strong @MrsHandler !! I admire your strength in this . What a blessing to be pregnant ! I know it's hard to not look back with what ifs but it'll all be worth it in the end . I hope you aren't faced with a difficult decision but if you are like people said you have to do what's right for you ! I'm praying for a happy and healthy pregnancy for you !!!

  • Went back yesterday and had another ultrasound.  One of the babies is measuring 4 days behind and has a smaller sac.  There is a chance that one will miscarry but who really knows at this point.  We also met with the doctor who would perform the reduction if it comes to that.  My husband and I are now in limbo as to what to do if one reduces on its down and we are left with triplets.  I'm freaking out and feeling like my body can't handle carrying a triplet pregnancy.. Nor can I deal with life after giving birth to three babies.  I've had my mind wrapped around two for so long, its hard to imagine three babies at once.  Its amazing the different feelings you go through.  Now I'm kind of hoping the fourth baby holds on long enough that it's an easy decision for us.  I don't WANT to reduce, but it would make this decision easier if all 4 were still there in a week.

Oh the joys of getting pregnant...

@MrsHandler another rough week for you, but hang in there. You are tougher than you think. Whether you end up needing to reduce by 0,1, or 2 it will be the right decision for you. No one can know if you can handle triplets or even twins except you. (I wonder if there's a multiples board that can offer you additional support?) I wish we had more ladies able to talk to you about their decision to reduce. In the mean time, we are all here supporting you and praying for a positive outcome that is uniquely fitted to you and your happy and healthy journey to motherhood.
  • Hold on to your strength @MrsHandler . I can't even begin to phatham how difficult this is for the both of you, but together you will pull through this and have a beautiful family, whether its the 4, 5, or 6 of you! Keeping you close to my heart and prayers.

  • Having a multiple pregnancy like this is a risk that all of us face when we seek fertility treatment, so any of us could be in your shoes.  I can't imagine anybody judging you for making a decision to reduce, especially given the extremely serious consequences of opting not to reduce.

I have nothing but warm thoughts and hope for you.

  • @MrsHandler thanks so much for keeping us updated, I'm so glad u and ur husband were able to come to a decision. Keep us posted on how everything progresses :-)
  • @MrsHandler I can only imagine how difficult this decision has been for you both...glad you found the right path for you. Prayers for your family!
  • @mskeenan I'm setting up another appointment for this week and I have a feeling we will be going every week until we deliver.
  • @MrsHandler - I have been following the Gardner Quad Squad on their blog and Instagram. They are a couple that struggled with infertility for 8 years. They ended up doing IVF and their two embryos split and implanted. They now have beautiful almost 11 month old quadruplet girls. I thought that their blog - and even messaging Ashley and Tyson directly on Facebook - might provide some source of support and comfort for you and your husband. Praying for you and your little miracles.
  • @Whileibreatheihope After coming across their blog and a couple others, is what really prompted me to give it some thought.  I'm planning on messaging them and letting them know that.  THANKFULLY all of our quads are in their own sac and have their own placenta so our doctor said for the situation we are in, its the most ideal one.
  • @MrsHandler I have been following your story and am blown away by your strength. Just wanted to drop a word of encouragement your way. My boss and his wife struggled for years and like the above poster had two split and all implant. I believe they are 6 or 7 now and beautiful! Two boys and two girls!

Our prayers and thoughts are with you on this journey you and your family have begun!

12/18/15: 6week Ultrasound - ONE STICKY LITTLE NUGLET!!!

  • @tbyars07 thank you so much!!  It definitely has NOT been easy and I've definitely had a few pity parties but overall feel so much better about the decision to keep all of them.  I know we will do everything in our power to keep them safe and healthy and inside me for as long as possible and if that means bed rest and a hospital stay than so be it.  I'm blessed to have an amazing husband who has been so encouraging and supportive through this all.  We haven't told any family yet, we've been telling them we are having twins.  So that is definitely something we are preparing to do this week before we announce it to the world next week.
